Re: What is the best way to keep focus ?

Don't get drunk like I am...

      lol but seriously...

      that's a tough question...

I'd say, taste a small success so you KNOW it works... And then scale it up.

EVERYTHING in IM HAS to be for the long term.. Don't go after short term profits...

      Think LONG term...

I made a site, many years ago.. And very soon after I built it, I was offered about $14,000 for it.

It had few sales... very little traffic. but was my second site and I'd put loads into it... So I said no.

A couple of months later I sold the resale rights to the product to the same guy for just $800 because I thought it was never going to do anything...

I KICKED myself cos I could have made $14,000 and here I was sitting on $800 and nothing much to show for it...

But something happened. It took about a year or two but the site matured. Affiliates found it and the MAGIC of aging happened....

It's made me no less than $30,000 every year since (5+ years), and sometimes substantially more with VERY little work...

      Moral of that story...

Go with evergreen. Go with what works OVER TIME... Don't go for quick short term profits...

The beauty of the Internet is generally sites do better over the longer term, so don't give up and focus on that LONG term income.

Dang, after 5pm already. I'm about to join you, so here are some questions:

If you were starting over from scratch and all you had was your current knowledge and a modest budget, what would be your short term strategy to raise capital and your long term strategy as you need to wait for things to "mature" as you said.

Which niches would you consider short term and fast, and which ones would be more suited for long term?

I'm still answering questions, even though the time limit is up (the vodka and red bulls are not wearing off yet)...

Honestly... I wouldn't want to have to start off again... I came into this game around 2001 when things were a LOT easier... And I screwed around for way too many years while I was young, treating this as a lifestyle business.

Regret it? Maybe.. But we are where we are today and that's that... So to answer your question...

I wouldn't try to raise any capital. This is a VERY small barriers to entry kind of market... no other industry can you compete with the bog boys on a $100 budget like you can on the net. I'd start small. Learn EVERYTHING I could.

I would NOT spend a PENNY on "IM products" (although some are good).... I'd read forums like the Warrior forums and take everything with a pinch of salt, remembering that most people DON'T HAVE A CLUE..> even if they pretend to have...

Build a site in niche I enjoy. Try to get organic traffic. Leanr a bit more about SEO. build my site up.

And monetize it. At that point SCALE THAT bad boy... If it's WORKING, DO NOT STOP!!!! Cos what works now MIGHT not work next year... So build whilst it IS working, and a lot of it will stick.

Reinvest as much as you can, but not in IM products or education, but in outsourced work doing what you KNOW works.

I don't believe ANY short term/fast niches should be attempted, well, not if you can't see the evergreen potential in it.

EVERYTHING you do online HAS TO BE LONG TERM.

Don't try to promote the new PS4 or whatever new trendy thing is... Cos this will have a VERY limited shelf life (although there are profits to be made in these up and coming markets). Promote the evergreen stuff....

          Health.

          Relationships.

Cures or remedies to long term problems.

          Etc....

Not, the newest gadget or whatever. Hope that makes sense.

      It's ALL about the keywords.

Choose the right keyword and you WIN... in google. Choose the wrong one and you lose.

Make sure you get the right balance between searches per month and competition.

Sorry it's a dull answer but it's the best I got!

I should state, I don't write articles but it IS something my team does...

I have 8 full-timers working for me and for 3 or 4 of them article marketing is their full-time focus. Am I an expert on article marketing? Nope. Nowhere near, there are better minds on here than mine... But my thoughts?

I choose the right keyword. Post the article. And forget about it. NEXT....

Eventually you want the content on YOUR site bringing you the traffic, not on somebody elses site. When you can compete with EZA's rankings (or article bases or whoever) you should.

I am an Apex/Premier Clickbank vendor (which I think means I'm in the top 1% or maybe 0.1% or something? I dunno)... so CB really IS my thing...

You can look at gravity, but it's true that gravity can sometimes not show you the real picture.

Some people say the higher the gravity, the better things convert. trust me, this is NOT the case.. And it's another unsexy but honest answer... The ONLY way to tell, is to test multiple products.

      BUT, I will say this...

As an affiliate YOU have the BIGGEST opportunity to affect the conversion ratio of a product... In fact, if you know what you're doing, you can make a bigger impact on conversions than ANYTHING a merchant can do... Because you can PRE-SELL.

      A recommendation.

      A review.

      A success story.

I can tell customers how great I think my product is, but when a third party with credibility and integrity recommends my product... that's it... It doesn't matter what it says on the sales page, you're gonna see higher conversions.

Recommend stuff. Review stuff. You'll get higher conversions.

Sorry, didn't answer all of this....

Article marketing (to promote YOUR SITE), with a longer term view to getting your site (feeder site or content site) placed strongly in google with traditional SEO..

We are always looking for new ways to do things, and we often overlook the fundamentals.

      Stick with what works.

(obviously, there's no easy answer to this, you can use video marketing and other stuff, but these are what WE focus on).

You looking to create INFO products? or something else?

Go crawl the Clickbank marketplace. Look for high gravity products. These niches have money in them. Sometimes they are tough.

So, search for CB products with 10+ gravity but less than 25... these are usually less competitive but still proven markets..> like one of them?

Go into it.... Throw yourself into it.

      MAKE it work.

Or, you can go MICRO niche...

Go trawl through amazon's listings. The books category.

Find books on interesting niches with a decent amount of reviews and a fair sales rank... Anything 100,000 or better (less is better) sales rank usually means there's a decent market...

    5. Other (fill in the blank)
    lol.. easy answer...

    1 + 2 + 3 = long term success...

    But this is NOT fast.

Google's aging domain factor alone will stop FAST profits, but this will get you LONG TERM profits.

if you're after FAST profits, getting decent affiliates to promote would be the fastest. They have the traffic. Say somebody with a list... But be aware, they KNOW they are in a strong position, so you'd better have a good offer to get them to even listen to you.

And remember, affiliate recruiting is a numbers game, but it's also important you treat it with the respect it deserves. When recruiting, make sure you personalize your first contact with them..

make them KNOW you actually visited their site and read it... Point out something specific.

    Don't say

"I came across your site in google and loved it"

They will SMELL the BS and tell you to F off...

    Say this

"Hey, I noticed you have a dead link on this page [URL] and I LOVE the photo of your family on vacation, really adds a personal touch to your site"

    Get specific.

    Don't be a robot.

    Be a human!

    And you'll get results.

Why backlink somebody elses site? Yes, you might get some kind of temporary boost in the SERPS but why not spend that effort and time building backlinks for your own sites?

        Easy...

EVERY keyword is really a question.

When you go to the google keyword tool to search for good keywords, you are really looking at PEOPLE that have a question.

They are googleing because they want an answer.

Look at what the keyword is ASKING you.

don't just think "how can I get this keyword into this article"...

Think to yourself, when this person typed in this keyword, what did he or she want to know?

And GIVE THEM THE ASNWER.... Don't hold back.

And make sure it leads into your resource box...

For example, for more tips on becoming invisible, get my free invisibility course at invisibitlityisawesome.com

these kinds or article do well too...

        10 tips to....

        5 secret blah blahs...

        Overviews.

        Lists.

        That kinda thing.

And remember, each keyword is not just ajeyword, it's a person with a question... Answer it and you'll build trust and if they are interested in knowing more, you'll have takent he first step to building a relationship, and getting a click to your site!

I hope you're NOT trying to make money in the "make money online" niche...

It's THE biggest mistake beginners make.

We are interested in making money online. We are told to do what we are interested in... So we think, yay I'll write about making money... And we've NEVER made any..

I felt that when I started, you probably have.

            Don't compete in this market.

BIG boys with REPS... LISTS... EXPERIENCE... KNOWLEDGE... MONEY and INFLUENCE compete in that market...

You CAN make money, and lots.. But why?

I have chosen to NEVER make money in the IM education niche... and I'd be the PERFECT candidate.

I do $1 million+ EVERY year through Clickbank alone and would have LOTS to say about it but I still choose not to.

            Why?

            That's my answer....

            Why... Why bother...

Let those guys with big names fight it out with each other... I'll compete in niches that have 2 or 3 decent competitors in them... in the IM niche, you're competing with the old boys network

Maybe one day, but go where the river runs "feeeist". Swim down stream not up.

I realized I probably went off on a tangent there but HEY I'm on overtime... I said 20 mins and it's been an hour!!!! I'm proud of myself (my RSI is kicking in... yes, a danger of this game kids!).

What are you into? What kind of things do you enjoy?

If it's watching TV and cleaning you might not have a niche you enjoy that's worth going into.. But you don't HAVE to enjoy a niche, just it makes it easier.

Try trawling amazon... Look for stuff that's selling. And go with it.

Personally, I build a few sites and see for the ones that stick... And I don't give a DAMN about whether I like the niche or not. But I can see that it might help. especially in the beginning when you're doing much of the work yourself.

if you're really stuck... PM me tomorrow when I'm sober and I'll try to get back to you when i have a spare moment over the next week.

you don't have to... With the right keywords it'll rank highly anyway.

I made th mistake of targetting too broad keywords for too long.

You don't want long tail - too little traffic (usually), but you don't want broad (too competitive) you need an in between,

Get that right and you don't need backlinks.

If you must then I'm guessing some kind of social bookmarking, rss submission or (crazy if you do this) building small mini networks of web 2.0 pages like squidoo and hubpages pointing back to your articles (But seriously, this os retarded as you migth as well do this for your own domain)...

I don't have my own domains (well I actually do... but I just don't have MY OWN products... all my domains redirect to affiliate stuff).

If I were to have my own product, it would be a free WSO or something like that on here, because it's not exactly something that i'd want to spend time promoting, as my product would really only be for other marketers... thus I would just come here and market it...

Thus, I am really satisfied doing affiliate work, as I really love whatever it is that I am promoting... and I therefore need more traffic to get more sales... and I have done the keyword thing and ranked ok...

But I need views, and those good things.

How do I do rss? I just submit my link thingy to rss feeds? so I have heard? So I go on eza, find my RSS link, and then submit that to rss directories? then that counts as something?

As well, social bookmarking... what is this? please explain what this would mean in context to the articles? like how would I get that to work for the articles... layman's terms..?

Hubpages and squidoo... I have started one- but I am actually unsure how to put links in it... and basically... I would make a hub page about some tips- and at each link say "to read more about this click here... this article" or something like that..? and then put in the EZA link?

    Thanks

Thus, I am really satisfied doing affiliate work, as I really love whatever it is that I am promoting... and I therefore need more traffic to get more sales... and I have done the keyword thing and ranked ok...

As gorgeous as your pic is, and so tempting to give you a big answer (God I am such a smoothie when I'm drunk! loling at myself) my answer is going to simple...

READ>......... read and read more.... this is the perfect resource. Don't buy stuff.... Just read warrior forum and find the guys who know what they are talking about.

You don't need your own product to make money, I started as an affiliate but I really wouldn't spend time building backlinks to articles... Spend the time learning Dreamweaver or wordpress and build your own sites... then build email lists... then come on here and send me a PM in a couple of years time and say thanks to me for pointing you in the right direction!

get out of the IM niche... do something else. you'll thank me.

I am a vendor of many products.

And an affiliate of many others.

      Build websites

Start by trying to control the flow of traffic.

Then, once you can convert that traffic into money, build your own products and leverage other people's traffic.

Outsourcing. How do you communicate what you want in an effective way so that they actually produce results you like? It seems to me that some tasks would take longer to describe than to actually do.

Hey, very cool thread - I love the vodka/red bull angle!

    Here's my question:

What's the best way of finding JV partners to approach? Most sites (forum profiles included) that IM'ers have don't include direct contact info.

I have a product in which a small fortune in time & money has been spent (listed in ClickBank) and am now looking for just a small handful of affiliates...not looking for a big bang, just enough to get the ball rolling.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

      Thanks!

Yup, done loads of this... First thing, try to find their contact details on the site.

Contact us. Email me. About us. These are usually where this info lurks.

      Simply find it manually.

IF you CAN'T find it manually (sometimes the emails aren't on there or they don't list them for a multitude of reasons) go to Whois lookup and Domain name search and do a search on their domain. Their contact details hopefully come up, (sometimes they use private regsitartions in which case, move on)... Email the address in the domain registration records, maybe even telephone them.

Other ways, subscribe to their newsletter and try replying to them...

I hope this answers the question, otherwise, i misunderstood... oops!

    Oooh...

This is my biggy... outsourcing is what i've been doing full-time for much of this year.

    Number 1.

Don't use CRAPPY elance or these other sites for one off work... Find somebody and if you can, EMPLOY them full time. On a VERY long term basis. Share the cost with another IM'er if need be.

    Number 2.

remember that once you've shown them once, YES you might have taken LONGER to record a JING project video or skype them the info than to actually do it yourself, but now they can do that task... Again and again, with nothing but a little tweaking comment here and there from you.

The TIME factor effects outsourcing massively. Again, look to get somebody working on your stuff exclusively.

Other forms of outsroucing are counter productive and time draining IMO.

    acrasial,

    I'm not Platinum but I'm a Matt

To answer you backlink question, you have your article at EzineArticles and then re-write it and submit it to other article directories with one of your resource box links aimed at your EzineArticle article and another link back to your site.

If your article is about "weight loss for students" use those keywords as an anchor text ( instead of "click Here" it would be Weight Loss For Students) in you articles on other directories.

You can also set up Squidoo pages, Hub pages, Youtube videos...all pointing to your article at EzineArticles.

These are just some backlinking ideas.

Honestly, it's what my boss told me to do as well... build squeeze pages, learn dreamweaver, photoshop, HTML etc...

I have all sorts of programs given to me to do this... as well- But i really like the product I am promoting! LOL I don't think I can do it better than this, because I was ORIGINALLY asked to make this product... started it... never finished it- then the person who asked me to do it, just did it himself/herself... and then the final product of theirs was just absolutely amazing...

    so now I promote it.

    LOL

As well, to answer Matt's post, I have youtube videos up... but I am still not satisfied... I am traffic greedy...LOL. (and I even want to drive traffic to my youtube videos as well!....I want as much traffic from all ends as possible...lol!)

    I know it sounds demented...

LOL. That is where it starts. With the traffic.

Always think of the old rule "What's In It For Me"? Anytime you have someone come in contact with your message to "click here" "follow me" "download now"...give them the benefit for doing it. WHY?

Tell them why. Why should they go to your site? Tell them. Why should they follow you on Twitter? Tell them why they should and what they will get out of doing so.

      Sell it. Always Be Closing!

"You need to do this because..." "Here is why you should be following me..."

Also, try to make everything as viral as you can. If they are going to follow you on Twitter they get something to download. Inside the download they get a gift if they send you more people. Always remind them to go back your site for more stuff.

Also remove free stuff from your site and let them know that your free stuff will not always be there. Give them a reason to keep checking in with you. Have something for them when they do.

Always give them a reason and close them. The Call To Action. Tell them the easiest way to do what you want them to do.

      Matt
