Developer license, Master resale rights, what are the limits?

Hi Warriors,
I will try to be as brief as possible:

If I buy a Developer License for a plugin that I can use to build sales pages, squeeze pages ... Am I allowed to create websites and/or templates, resell them on ebay and other similar auction sites or even here in WSO? Or I am limited to work on clients projects and offer services on places like Fiverr and similar?

Same thing if I buy a product with "Master Resale Rights" or I download it from from a membership site, am I allowed to do the same thing: Grab a domain name, Design a better sales page for this product, and resell everything on Flippa, Ebay, or somewhere else?
I am very confused about this, I want to bring my business to the next level in order to be legal, safe, and trustworthy.

  • I think if you buy a master resale right, you can do whatever you want. If it is a developer license, you can change it, create pages for your own. But I am not sure if You can resale it. It is very confusing too. But I am not sure if you can change it with Master Resale right. Can you check with the seller?

  • But i guess it's fair enough when I pay developer license, I can profit the most from my investment. Including selling ready made sites instead of looking for a client that needs my services, working in advance is better than waiting for a demand. Thanks for the reply.

  • yeah man, youre the only one that gets it, just make alot of those and you should be good for a while, just look at where the trend is going and prepare

      It's only "fair enough"... when your use complies with the terms of the license.

      PLR stands for Private Label Rights and might conceivably provide ONLY the right to rename the product, or list your name as the author. Anything that restrictive is virtually useless, but what's important is that you understand that the product creator (not you) determines what your rights are.

      Ideally, the product sales letter will explain your rights and you should understand those rights BEFORE you click on the "BUY" button.

  • You are ignoring the right answers....from Mark and from Sid

    Is that a quote from the seller of the product you purchased? If so, that's an answer. If not, find the sales page and see what rights were listed.

    Also, when you download a master resale product usually (not always) there is a "read me" file included that outlines your rights and responsibilities. Did you receive anything like that?

    That would not be allowed as a WSO (must be your own product) but the other ideas you listed may be possible. You HAVE to find out what the parameters are. Chances are they are on the sales page where you bought the product or part of the download - or you need to push for answers from the seller.

    Have you done online searches to see if other sites are selling this same product - might give you some ideas.

    Regardless of how this particular case turns out ... there is a valuable lesson here for you and everyone else that purchases products for resale (PLR, RR, MRR, etc).

    Always be clear about the license you are thinking about purchasing before you spend your money!

    The very best products for resale will have the terms and conditions of the license spelled out in detail either on the sales page or in a link on the offer somewhere. If you have any question or concern about using the product for your specific application or intention, contact the seller in advance, before you purchase, explain what you want to do, and ask if your intended use is covered by the license. Save a copy of the reply and put it in a file along with the product you buy and also include the written terms and conditions. Keep all these things together just in case you might need them later for any reason.

    Regarding this particular case, I would be very suspicious about using any product that came from someone that would not respond to my questions after repeated attempts. Keep trying to reach the seller. If he won't respond, I would not use his product. There have been many cases where dishonest sellers have illegally offered other people's products for resale when they had no license or right to do so. Honest and legitimate sellers are happy to answer questions from people that buy from them!

  • Re-reading the OP it says "If I buy a plugin" and "If I buy master...."

    We don't know if a purchase was made - if the seller has responded to other emails, etc.

    Simple answer is to know what the rights are before you buy - and keep a copy of the rights for future reference.
