Freelance suggestion if not satisfied with project

Hello ,

Please I want to know what should I don , Simply I requested a plugin for WordPress for cash back website and awarded the project to someone in freelancer and he gave me certain date didn't receive the project at the date he gave me . Not big problem till now .

He made the plugin but Not exactly like I want he made accounting system I don't like it but he told me If I change it It will need to start from scratch .
Also I gave him examples of website working and also using Wordpress but he copied one of them but with more modifications needed .

Every time I ask for modification which I shouldn't tell him what to do every time he make me feel like I'm guilty that I asked for something to be modified

More than that I asked for plugin to be installed and eveything work well , I discovered that I need to install the wordpress and the template he choosed not mine or I should make difficult things I don't know how to do it
And now everytime he ask me to close the project .

I released the first milestone and there is are two not released 1/3 of the project .

So , Please give me suggestions I've no experience with freelance but I'm not really satisfied and I think If I received it as it is now I mayn't use it .

Should I release the other milestones ? what will happen for the other milestones ? can freelance refund it for me ?

Thank you and sorry for all this boring story but really I lost a lot of time and want to know what to do ......

As for now, I'd release on this freelancer and build friendships with skilled freelancers you know, like and trust. These folks deliver the best work; freelance friends

Win some lose some. It took me over 23 freelancers to find one I liked and that'd do the work. Pay the man and do a better job explaining your project upfront next time, not just giving an example and expecting them to just make it.

In the future I suggest you build it piece by piece by piece. Most of the time they shouldn't even have to know what your building and why. The freelancers job is to code things, it's your job to design and explain it to them.

I say pay him. But if it's a huge issue contact freelancer.

So am I understanding you right: you want your money back because the freelancer didn't complete?

Sadly, he did do the work for the first milestone.

    That fact isn't going away.

You just have to chalk up this loss and keep looking for the right freelancer.

Before I found a trustworthy coder, I had to burn through about a dozen flakes.

That's just the nature of the BEAST

This stuff happens all the time. Work it out with him. Tell him the truth on what you expected and what you received and how do you guys come to an agreement on how to finalize the project. If need be, get the freelance website involved. Good Luck!

Hey Omar, I'm going to make a decent effort in answering your questions as best as possible. I still recommend overall - speak to the freelancer and work it out with them, by this I don't mean just ask him to change everything. You don't want to end up with a half baked plugin, and he doesn't want to miss out on the rest of his milestones.

Anyways, here's some responses below that I believe will help give you some guidance with working with freelancers online and some ideas to help you improve on the next crowdsourcing experience.

Deadlines are important, some employers will negotiate with freelancers about the deadline requirements and generally that affects the total milestone amount.

Most of the time, employers incentivise completion by or before the deadline, If a freelancer can finish it within the time frame/deadline: 5% bonus (I've seen some employers negotiate this before awarding the project to the freelancer).

Did you give a clear and concise brief to the freelancer? It's always best to lay everything out in a document and leave as little room for assumptions to be made. This ensures you get the result you're after

Did you make an effort to do regular updates with the freelancer?

If you've loaded the milestones into Freelancer.com, you can't cancel the milestones yourself, you'll need to go through Dispute / Support, I do not recommend releasing the milestones until you are satisfied with the work. Once the milestones are released, they cannot be refunded.

All good! I mean, we're all here to help.

If you need someone to help you out on Freelancer, you should include the Recruiter upgrade. Before working at Warrior Forum, I was also in the Recruiter team and you get to cherry pick from Preferred Freelancers. It's $31.90USD but worth it to not go through the above. More info here: http://www.freelancer.com/recruiter

If the freelancer you've hired is good (by good I mean capable), I'd consider thinking about what else they could do for you - and try to negotiate that into the mix. It's common to see freelancers rehired by employers for continuation on dev jobs since they're already familiar with the code.

There's great advice here from members above, I think collectively, everyone is suggesting to talk it out with your freelancer. It will always get your further than labelling anywhere. If you have a need to get help with the site itself, go here:
