Social bookmarking for increasing traffic

I have done article marketing (about 40 articles) and some press releases for my site.

Now I'm thinking of doing social bookmarking. I'm planning to use social bookmarking tools such as Bookmarking Demon. Does it increase traffic drastically?

I'm seeing a traffic of 1000 per month and that has been a constant for the past few months. The website earns me about anywhere from $50 to $80 per week and I'm thinking of just increasing the little bugger to earn more.

Any tips and ideas would be much appreciated.

    I wouldn't say 'drastically' unless you're in a broad niche that appeals to a lot of people. People mainly do bookmarking for the links and not so much the traffic since it isn't always the most targeted

      Humm.... increased backlinks means higher search engine placements? Doesn't that mean more traffic?

        Increasing your backlinks won't neessarily increase your rankings in the search engines.

        There are a lot of factors. Sure every link can help, but Google will view your site as trustworthy if you got 10 links from a .edu or .gov site versus putting up 100 blogger blogs in ten minutes all pointing back to the same URL.

          I'm pretty sure Google themselves have said that the "edu" and "gov" extension "trustworthiness" was just a myth.

          Hi,

          I bought bookmarking demon 2 days ago. And I wouldn't belief it myself but within 2 days I reached Google rank 14 for a keyword with a search traffic of 100k+ per month. Since I did not have the time to use any other Backlinking strategies the success factor must be a combination of bookmarking demon and the fact that I used yahoo answers to host my promo.

    Really the only thing I have found helpful from social bookmarking is the backlink. Depending on your niche, you can get some decent traffic from some of the bookmarking sites, but it does not convert. But it is worth submitting your site to get the backlinks.

    I always get a little traffic from Stumbleupon but it rarely does much. Although do keep in mind that Stumblers may occasionally link to you with something else.

    It may take a lot of bookmarking links to boost you up. Automation and/or cheap outsourcing can be good here. Although if you do a @#$#@-ton all at once, your linked-t page may not last long in Google...

    Social Bookmarking definitely increases traffic to your website by increasing your Google rankings. That's the best traffic there is. People searching for you.

    HOWEVER, it's not a good idea to bookmark your own stuff either manually or via software. This leaves major footprints that can lead to your accounts being shut down and ultimately your website being penalized. Yes, Google is watching the social networks like a hawk.

    It's far better to get other people (friends, family etc) to bookmark your stuff for you in their own accounts, from their own computers. Or better still, join a content syndication network like Synnd.net and make your life easy by getting hundreds of other people to bookmark your stuff and submit it to Digg and Reddit, and also vote it up.

    Whatever you do, don't promote your own stuff. It will only hurt you long-term. Anyway, that's my little rant. Hope it helps you.

    There is really no harm in social bookmarking. So why not? Backlinks can boost your SE rankings as well as provide increased traffic. Go for it.

    OP - Do yourself a favor go and test for yourself because these are FACTS!!!

    * Google has no idea how, when, why, what you used, or anything else to bookmark your sites... Footprint - Blah!! Give me a break!

    * Google will NOT slap you because you bookmark your own sites and get 2,000 bookmarks in one day.

    * PageRank of the bookmark sites means very very little, its not all about PageRank.

    * You can get targeted traffic from the sociail bookmarking sites, those that say you can't.. They just have not took the time to participate in the social bookmarking sites.

    I have done over 1 Million Bookmarks since feb this year and have many many testimonials to prove the above to be facts...

    If you do bookmarking the "correct way" then it will help you a great deal and not only by increased rankings but traffic also directly from the social bookmark sites.

        Where did you get this info or what do you base it on? It seems to go against most of what I've read in the forum, and I've bookmarked almost nothing but my own sites for a long time, haven't seen any penalty.
