Paying for company to do a WSO offer / What is right to do!

Just had a very very strange conversation with someone who is active on this board about using my business to do a WSO offer.

He contacted me out of the blue saying he wanted to use my hosting company to offer people free web design as its worth it due to the addons he'd charge for and also future freelancing stuff.

The idea seemed like a good one, but he wanted to charge me $75 for doing it (not bad if he got 3 sign ups it'd be paid for). Earlier in the conversation he told me he was from Georgia USA and as we were discussing things I provided him with a link and it turned out he was from Bangladesh. After asking him about this he was pretty abusive about saying I was scamming him, wasting his time etc.

I calmed him down telling him I dont really care where he is from as the idea was sound, but he'll need to have a portfolio because otherwise people will not want the free web design! At this point I became a "F***ING GUY", "THIEF", "WASTING TIME".

The background to this is the idea was a sound one, although it might not work on WSO would I be wrong for not working with this guy, but using his idea to generate business if the sums can be made to match and should I offer him a token payment for the idea?

I don't understand what you think is "sound" about this.

This person contacted you - wants to use your hosting (your name and paypal acct, too?) - to run a WSO. He wants YOU to pay for the WSO....(the $75).

He lied about his location - became abusive when questioned. What happens if people pay for orders and he doesn't deliver..will you issue the refunds?

Did you ask why he doesn't run his own WSO? There's a reason. You'd be wise to avoid this 'partnership' in my opinion.

      Kay,

I'm thinking this, my main question is about paying him money if I use the idea.

Huge thing that worried me was they'd be signing up for the free design and then request a refund if it wasn't good enough or they didnt get it.

You are seemingly too desperate for business and your integrity is falling victim. It happens to many.

Tell him where to go. Good business isn't done with liars and volatile folk. You're likely dealing with child.

        Save yourself for better opportunities.

I'm not sure why you are questioning my integrity!

The guy will not be working with me, what I'm asking is if I should pay him some money as his idea was decent!

I'd like to point out he came to me, we didnt approach any body and am 100% not desperate for business.

You've got a higher moral value than most if you can overlook a volatile individual and award them for their idea.

If you insist, the question is; how much was the idea worth?

Web design and hosting collaborations are quite common. People sell free websites to businesses on the basis that they subscribe to annual hosting.

That would be your generosity to share a little profit with him for his idea when certainly you start making profit. It's all back to you. Most companies just steal ideas and don't pay.

The guy is full of crap. I don't know why you are even considering it.

He lied to you. When you caught him lying he then got abusive.

It sounds like whenever you ask a legitimate question he also gets abusive.

There is nothing sound about the idea. You are the only one putting in any money.

Even if it was a real offer, 99% of people who would sign up for a free web design offer already have a website and hosting.

I don't think anyone is doing that here. They are reinforcing your decision not to work with this person. They are also saying "give him nothing" - paying this person would be rewarding a scammer.

You can't trademark or copyright "ideas". I don't see anything unique being proposed by the person who approached you.

If there is something you think you can use - use it. You don't owe this person anything. Those posting in this thread believe you were wise and avoided being scammed....and should not reward this person in any way. You owe him nothing.

Most companies just steal ideas and don't pay.
That has nothing to do with this thread - the OP is not stealing anything. It's the person who approached him who had questionable ethics and was dishonest.

This place has seriously become Digitalpoint 2.0.

Freelancer only encourages the 3rd world traffic, each with a dozen forum profiles trying to work the crowd.

Personally I'd never work with anyone that has a WSO, that shit is tainted with scammers.

It's not a new idea by any means and this scammer has no intellectual rights for something that is common practice.

    So, no.

Send him another email and say something like this...
" Btw, this does not have to do with anything we are discussing but by chance I found out your name and let me say Congratulations. Because your second uncle on your mom's side, the Barron Craven Moorehead, left a substantial windfall after passing and it's currently tied up in the 3rd circuit court of Chicago. Please send me the needed $10K to access this Trust and I will split the $13 mil windfall with you . Hurry asap because

Cheers for the advise on this guys. Not had contact from him again and did some more searching around to see that his idea wasn't as original as I thought and after doing more checking I can see he abandoned his own Warrior Offer after taking quite a bit of money from peeps.

I hate the idea we live in a world were making a quite $ is better than people working together to establish something long term.

Like I said above - there was a reason he didn't want to use his own name/accts. Glad you didn't get involved (or burned) with this one.

It's not "the world" - it's a few people in it. Has always been that way - nothing new.

Oh my god. Don't do business with him. Just don't. You don't owe this person anything, and by the sound of it they're unprofessional and useless anyway. Be sensible.
