I dont know how many PCs that I have purchased over the years, I have had my current MAC for four years, and to date never a crash nor a problem of any sort at all.

I have seen the hackintosh thing but to be honest, it is not the way.

While it may look like a MAC it will not act like a MAC.

Universal programs will not work in the correct way on a converted PC, there is a reason for this, MAC is part hardware part software that is what makes the magic happen.

while you can hack a PC to look like a mac you cannot really get the true MAC experience.

So I recommend the steps above...

Now that is some funny sh#t right there! (LOL) Changed to Mac 2 years ago....changed my life for the better literally.

Thanks for posting this link. I guess the only downside is when my PC-converted-Mac breaks or has even the most minor malfunction I won't have the pleasure of paying a few hundred dollars to have it fixed.

Oh, yes, that is so true, I have so many applications that are only for MAC, but to be honest, I have yet to find one single task that I could not do on a MAC, including using XLS files, with open office.

My mother in Law used to call me every other day with a problem with her windows computer, some driver did not load, blue screen, had to reboot and reboot, printer stopped working had to reboot.

Finally I talked her into buying a MAC, cost, $1200.00

This replaced her, Toshiba laptop, which new was $2,500.00 and had have three hard drives replaced, memory problems, and a host of other issues.

She paid half as much for the MAC but that is not the real story here.

I have not had one phone call from her with a problem to fix on the MAC.

That my friends is not just Magic, that is Bliss....

Bummer, I must be dead then because I haven't even switched any of my Macs on for at least three years!

You might want to check out the benckmarks they posted. Seems the emulated mac is actually once again actually running faster than the MAC it's emulating. :p

USB ports were secret military bases when Commodore was around . . .

MS made better business deals and MAC didnt allow afordable upgrades. They still dont to an extent.

All the techno-babble doesn't replace the reality that my experience with a Mac has been many many times more trouble-free than my experience with Windoze.

Double quad blahbedyblah whatever... when I use my Mac... I USE my Mac.

When I used Windoze ... I spent a lot of time repairing, diagnosing, waiting for tech support ... cursing the blue screen of death ... paying for upgrades ... hoping the upgrades didn't wipe out my files ... reading instruction manuals .... downloading new drivers.... uninstalling those drivers because they weren't compatible ... installing even more new drivers ... wondering why the new driver had conflicts with the other driver from something else .... AAAAAAGH!

When I bought my Mac... I just started using it. And years later, I'm still using it. My friends keep calling me to ask what to do with the latest error they just got on their windoze box.

I'll close with this. There was an article in a magazine recently that was essentially a "Top 10 Things Your Computer Tech Won't Tell You".

One of them was:

"If you want to see less of us, get a Mac. That's what we use."

It was not an ad.

Actually, the 68000 was a nice processor before the 8088 even came into being!

Frankly, I always thought IBM made a mistake there. The 80x86 didn't catch up to reason until the 80386!

And mac vs. windows was NOT a 2 way race until a few years back, and, OFFICIALLY, it STILL isn't! WHY!?!?!? Because, OFFICIALLY, the MAC is a platform, and windows is an O/S!

So comparing the two is silly.

The IBM computer started out as a bit of a joke. It was HIGH PRICED, a LATE COMER, and had NO compatibility with other systems! So WHY did it take off? It was made for business, and from IBM! Other companies, that made "IBM compatibles", were RISKY, and nobody trusted them. The ONLY reason they sold was because they cost less than HALF what the IBM systems cost. Eventually, word got out that, if Ashton Tate, and flight simulator ran, the system was probably compatible.

The apple computers started out costing a LOT! They even cost more than the IBM systems. Competitors were SQUASHED! IBM could only copyright a few bytes in the ROM, but Apple could even PATENT parts of their system. Of course, NOW they aren't so able to do so.

Bad definition.

A Mac is a Mac, made by Apple. A PC is basically any computer running Windows, of which there are dozens (probably hundreds, maybe thousands) of companies making them.

It's apples (har har) to oranges. Apple was essentially a hardware maker for ages, whereas Microsoft was software, so no surprise that an operating system for one particular make of computer is less popular than one that is in virtually everything else.

Had Apple been in the software business as their primary focus, it might be different. But Gates and company made some extremely smart and, in my opinion, morally and ethically questionable, moves that got them in at the beginning.

Apple is pretty much infinitely superior in their marketing savy, but Microsoft is so entrenched that their skill isn't anywhere near enough to cross the moat and scale the wall.

But man, I can't stand Macs. As a relative dimwit when it comes to actually using computers, Mac appears to be bound and determined to make simple tasks more difficult. One button on a mouse my ass.

Neither, I blame ignorant buyers! But, hey! It's the same suckers we want to buy our ebooks... :p

The IBM pc got clonned, so many more people made them, driving down prices. (this also pushed the tech for them to the bleeding edge, and it's why PC's are faster as well)

Apples are made only by them, and cost a lot more.

Which one do you think the average consumer is going to buy?

Im not sure what would be more ignorant in this case..Windows users who would start slinging names around, or Mac users who enjoy the option of the best of both worlds?

One main reason, and why most designers/creative people refuse to switch to pc (oh, we are so ignorant), and this hasn't changed in over 12 years is color management.

Check your XP system for monitor color calibration and see how much control you have. Not much.

Getting the mouse pointer to NOT suddenly jump an inch while allinging a rasterd object was close to impossible. This has improved over the last 6 or so years, but in 2004 and earlier, it was a painful experience for those who were used to working on macs.

To this day, when you create design work and you want to match that of printed material, it's close to impossible to do this on a PC. Even with market specific monitors, (the blue ones with the glare hoods) where in 2003, you'd pay about 2 grand for a 21".

I just bought Paralells because I need to be able to create accurate design work for PC users.

FOR MAC USERS THAT CREATE DOCUMENTS FOR WINDOWS USERS:

The problem here, is that when I create folders on a Mac, Windows users don't see the same thing after they open the zip file.

This is a fault with the Mac OS I don't like. The Mac OS adds invisible files to folders so the system can easily find files, and determine what color lable these files and folders should have.

When a Windows user opens them up, they see your original documents, PLUS files like .DSstore, Xfolder, etc. This confuses the heck out of some customers.

DStore Cleaner or Blue Harvest will clean this up, but I'm not sure about the invisible folders. I've got Paralells, but don't have XP yet, and a full version is required.

But what do I know? I'm just an ignorant Mac Freak!

I don't know why ppl prefer mac.. Ok they looks good.. But I just dump my mac for a quadcore pc.. I hate running windows inside my mac.. Why the heck buying a mac if all you wanna do is running a windows inside your mac? Been using mac for 6 years.. I can say mac sucks.. Windows crash sometime, but Its still doing its job so much better..

That was the one thing I could not bear wth the Mac, I had to get a new 7 button mouse for all my shortcuts and macros, my wife still used the Hockey Puck mouse and hates the MightyMouse with its scroll button, talk about old school!

No, it doesn't help.
I am running PCs that are 5 years old (bought new 2003) and they download as quickly as ever. All are hooked up to the same DSL router/hub.
I still need to figure our why these iMacs are so slow. I am about to lose $85 and a customer and potential referals due to this slowness. I hate giving refunds for things that work, but not adequately
