1 Most Confusing Thing About Making Money Online

Making money online is a skills game.

Not a products game.

If you develop skills which address a pressing problem, in a specific niche, and learn, share value and build your friend network, you position yourself to make nice coin online.

This concept is so confusing to many folks who feel that a hot niche, product, tool, service, or blogging, or social media marketing is the money maker.

I have used this analogy before: A hammer cannot hammer a nail into the wall. Need a human to do that. And the human better be skilled or else they will do a crappy job, hammering the nail in at a terrible angle, or at worst they smash their thumb and head to the emergency room.

But many Warriors complain, or quit, feeling entirely confused and frustrated when the hammer they purchased didn't hammer a nail into the wall on its own....aka.....when the hot niche did not earn them money. A hot niche is lifeless, totally inanimate. The skilled entrepreneur offering useful service through the hot niche builds a tidy profit, by doing something helpful and problem solving for human beings interested in the niche.

A product, blog or social media, or *anything* outside of you will not make money for you. You and your devotion to developing problem solving skills will help lay the foundation for prospering.

So the next time you say, "I tried this and that and it didn't make money", own your failure and say "I didn't develop my skills so I am not making money." The hammer needs a skilled carpenter to make it sing and products or services need a skilled entrepreneur to make them sing too, to the point of selling those suckers and assisting human beings in the process. This cuts through any confusion and also positions you to hone your craft through persistent work, so you can solve specific problems, better humanity, and yes, earn some coin.

What do you think?

    Excellent post.

I think that part of honing your craft is not only learning how to effectively wield the hammer, but learning when to reach for the 8# sledge and when to reach for the 8 oz. tack hammer...

There are many that join with all types of online businesses. But many don't want to put effort, it takes work to make it online. Many just throw banners, throw links, and just want to sell...sell...sell...but you need to build brand. Everyone has to build some sort of relationship #first and get trust with people. There are ways to be successful, but it takes quality time and effort.

You make a lot of good points in this post. The thing I see with most people is they think they'll make money online by just buying a product. I don't even believe there's a problem with having skills it's just that they won't take action.

Taking action builds the skills you need to make it online.

Many of us have ideas, but we never take action. Too many times we sit around waiting for the right time to do it. The truth is there is never a right time. Like you said you could have a nail and a hammer, but if you don't have a human, they are just a nail and a hammer.

Making money online is about doing. If you have an idea, then take action and see what happens. If you want to create a product, then create it, launch it and see what happens.

Internet marketing is about testing. You have to keep testing until you find something that works. The more tests you do the closer you'll get to something that makes money. If you just sit around buying products and never taking action, then you'll never make money.

I learned this after spending many years online. I took a long time before I started making money online. Now I know that it's all about taking action and seeing what works and what doesn't. Fail faster is the motto.

    Take Action

    Hope that helps

Great point oppyeaunone. : ) One of my favourite quotations from IBM Founder Thomas J. Watson would have to be:

Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It's quite simple really: Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success however it isn't at all. You can be discouraged by failure -- or you can learn from it. So go ahead and make mistakes make all you can. Because remember that's where you'll find success.
      P.S.
It could also be said as: "Double your rate of progress."

I've been browsing this forum for a while now, picking up on wisdom from you guys. But reading your post made me want to sign up to thank you, and share my thoughts.

About 8-9 years ago I had a website that was generating about $10 bucks a day through adsense (it was one of those Formspring screenshot sites). I was banned for some reason and lost hope on my website. Then I just kinda set that aside. I was really sad! haha.

About 2 years ago I stumbled upon "internet marketing" as a thing, and I became really excited. I was hoping to make a quick buck and free myself from the capitalistic chains.

I quickly learned that the reason most people quit is because they spend a few weeks/months and a couple of bucks on a quick scheme, and make nothing in return and become disenchanted.

Or they get banned from their only monetizing source, like what happened to me.

In the process I've learned so much, I've shifted so many paradigms, and I've seen a crap ton of growth in my life.

I have become a better writer (in context to my previous writing), I'm now genuinely interested in learning new things, applying them to my life, and maybe discovering niches I'm unaware of.

Hell, it has even inspired me to work on my stuttering condition to develop more fluency.

Years later, I've only made a few bucks (mostly freelance work), but the way my life has changed made journey well worth it.

Your analogy reminded me of this quote by Abraham Maslow "I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail."

Thanks for reminding me that this is something you have to be in for the long run.

Some valid points. The main time of confusion for me was when i first started out trying to make money on the internet. It was confusing because of all the different products you buy telling you different things. You just end up not knowing what to believe.

Upon this confusion and frustration, i did my own research instead of buying those bogus products.

And the cool thing is TMG, when you do your own research, you get clearer on your direction and know what products to invest in from mentors you trust. It's like, when we get clearer, the confusion dissolves, clarity remains and we can invest time, energy and money toward our success.

Great post. Thanks for shattering one of the myths of internet marketing.

Another myth of internet marketing is that you need money to make money. This is not true. Money does make the process of building a successful internet business a lot more efficient, but it is not a necessity. I was able to make money online without any money and then I reinvested my profits.

If you believe you will be successful and you take action with the same intensity of a man who is gasping for air after being held under water for too long, you will be successful no matter the obstacle.

This is 100% true. Money responds to energy, it responds to skills, to service, to a devotion to our craft. Although you may spend a little bit of dough to get things off of the ground you can earn money without having much money at all.

I recall following a blog where said blogger made over $50,000 every month.....then spent about $50,000 a month on profits. Drove me nuts! I couldn't believe it. This went on monthly when the income reports came out. 1 or 2 or 3 K profits, and some months the blogger even lost money, making 50 G's a month. It drove me mad, thinking how he clung so strongly to the limiting belief that you need money to make money.

i was taught by my mentor who recently passed away.

He said, "celente you will not make money if you are NOT solving PEOPLES problems"

it was true you know, i use to make $0 while asking peole for money.

Now I am more of a expert i would say or professional, I try to give away high value and lots of content, that solves peoples problems.

I have notice that if you do that, and BUILD YOUR LIST, you can create a very solid income fast. Infact I do six figures.

I think the key here is GIVING VALUE FIRST< and also SOLVING that persons problems at the same time. if you can do that, prepare for HUGE and ulitmate success.
