Normal Popup or Exit PopUp? Which is Better

Hi Guys,

I have a small question, based on your experience which is better to get the best conversions.

Exit intent PopUp or the Normal PopUp that appears when you open the website?

    Exit popups are annoying.

You want to IMPRESS your prospects not ENRAGE them.

If you insist on going the popup route (you should seriously reconsider), go for popunders.

    Hi,
I think that normal popup is ok and exit popup often use by sale page to upsell and down sell.

These days I gravitate toward exit intent popups.

They are less aggressive than hard exit pops.

In the future? Hard exit pops might get penalized by Google, and other authoritative presences that have the ability to mark your website as malicious.

It could be considered malicious JavaScript.

    Just my humble two cents.

Another point... I would literally NOT send an email to my subscribers with a hard exit pop. It's too aggressive lol.

Would you send content with a hard exit pop to your dad? Mom? Wife? Husband? Children? Grand parent?

If not; then don't send it to your awesome audience.

Normal PopUp's are more soft. Exit PopUp's are not allowed by FB ads also.

I test both and normal popups outperform exit popups, by a lot.

Normal ones get the higher conversion rate, consistently. But YMMV

I would not use a popup....I would let them check out your site without any ads and then do an exit page redirect when they leave,

I don't have any popups, so I speak only as a user.

Common sense would say that popups earlier on would produce better results. At this stage, the user is still engaged in your content or product. I think of many ecommerce stores that have opt ins for "10% off your next purchase".

Exit intent popups are seen after the user has lost interest in your content or product and decided to move on. Which means you'd have to get them interested again. The only instances when this works on me is medium or high ticket items with a huge discount. For example, I may be interested but not at $297. But a one time offer for $97 may get me to pull the trigger.

I personally prefer exit pop ups that regular popups, i usually put myself in the shoes of my blog visitors. website pop ups are annoying especially when you are trying to read an article or post. That is my 2 cents on the matter.
