Bloggers Outreach - Any Advice on Timing?

Hello everyone,

wondered if any of you have experience / could help with advise reg bloggers outreach?
I am building a campaign for a musician (social media, newsletter, paid FB ads, direct mailings etc). As part of the campaign we will be releasing one short 'behind-the-scenes' video each week.
A dedicated 'Latest Project" type section will go live on the artist's website on campaign start date and will gradually be filled with content over the length of the campaign (in sync with social media etc).
We will offer bloggers exclusive access to the artist (interviews etc.) and shares of the "Behind the scenes" videos before they go live on artist's website / social media.

My question is: WHEN would be the best time to approach relevant bloggers?
Would you send out the intro e-mail with a PK and private (unpublished) links to the videos, or rather wait for the 'Latest Project' section on the website and social media to be at least somewhat populated with actual campaign content?

Many thanks,
Ros

Every day we receive LOTS of promo emails asking for exposure, so instead of being like everybody else, don't ask for anything straight away.

Unless you're offering cash. And that's a good starting point with high traffic blogs.

You can either work your way in, or buy your way in.

If you're only interested in getting free exposure, then start a conversation, tell them what you're planning to do, gauge their interest, ask them for their opinion and let them figure out if what you're doing is a good match for their audience. Build a relationship over time.

The things you think are incentives (access to artists) aren't that appealing because only small or unknown bloggers need that kind of help.

When I receive emails I run it through a few gates:

Is this of interest/benefit to my audience?

What kind of offer are they making?

Are they a business? If so, then they gotta pay my going rate for exposure - unless it's of outstanding value to my readers.

Just like writeaway has said, try getting to know them on social media and building a relationship with them before pitching your main ideas to them.

    best way before outreach :
    - follow them on twitter
    - tag name, article of them and compliment on twitter ...
    - find email on site , contact with them and give them your name on twitter before offer them

Spend 6 months to a year promoting other bloggers, commenting on their blogs, and befriending them. Some will befriend you, and will comment on your blog and promote you in return.

Ros, sending out cold emails - without helping someone out, aka buttering them up, aka befriending them - is the easiest way to see your email trashed or junked. I junk SO many emails because strangers wanna ask me for a favor. 99.9999% of influential bloggers think this way.

By building friendships over months I have been featured on some of the world's most famous and respected blogs, aligning myself with these superstar brands. Play the long game because it is the only game worth playing
