A clever way to get instant traffic and credibility

Here's a little trick I discovered a few years ago.

When entering a niche there undoubtedly will be bigger players than you - with more traffic. Approaching these larger sites, in particular the webmasters, and requesting an interview is a great way to drive traffic to your site.

Play to their ego, make sure the interview puts them in a good light and write very nice things about them, their site and their knowledge of your niche.

There's a very good chance the webmaster in question will want his or her visitors to see all the great things you've said and put a link from the home page to your site.

A simple idea but very effective, that continues to serve me well.

This tactic can have lots of good effects. One other tip: Make it as easy as possible for the person to work with you. If you make them jump through a bunch of hoops, or make it time-consuming, they will not do it.

Keep it simple. Ask nicely. Follow up appropriately. It works!

That's a great idea - I can see it working in some cases, but what about if you both have products that will be directly competing? Are you talking about both having blogs in the same niche, or info-sites or something like that, or do you actually have competing products for sale?

    Cheers

Good idea but fails with most big guys who will think it will be waste of time to give interviews to small webmasters. Small webmasters can't expose the big gurus more than they are right now ...

I have never tried this in the IM / guru niche and wouldn't attempt it, but have found it works very well in niches that are not personality driven. But with that said I have occasionally managed to scoop interviews with TV personalities who have publicly spoken of their interest in my selected niches - which can be incredibly easy with a small amount of research.

I usually approach sites that do not have products for sale, and if possible have an active member base (lots of blog comments or a forum).

The reason I approach sites that do not have info products for sale is two fold, the first being the webmaster has nothing to lose - only gain from taking part in the interview.

Secondly, once the interview goes well and he forms the opinion that you are a trustworthy person, it makes the task of recruiting him or her as an affiliate to sell your product for you a lot easier.

Ok, that makes a little more sense. For some reason I had a little mind block going on - of course there are other authority sites out there in my niche that don't have products!

        Thanks - that's a good strategy!

Indeed, some people will not want the attention or feel shy about being interviewed.

As long as a relationship is formed and rapport is being built, regardless, achieving your goal of promotion can be achieved
