Hyphen or .Info Domain Names?

I've been finding some good keywords but usually the good names are taken, at least the .com names. Often, though, the .info names are available as are the hyphen names.

So for instance, MyGoodName.com is taken, but MyGoodName.info and My-Good-Name.com are both available. I want to rank them with autoblogging but I'm not sure which one is the best to get, and sometimes the MyGoodName.tv is available too.

Personally I like hyphens between keywords. So I will go with hyphen + .com.

SEs see two keywords. Ex: Followup-autoresponder.com

    Just my thinking!

I was taught "you should use .com anytime its possible" especially if your in the US.

      One of my domains is:
      Earning-On-The-Web dot com

Props to you for doing the research, good luck with your new site.

Hmmm. So do you mean to just keep looking forever until I find a keyword I like that hasn't been taken, or do you mean to contact the person who holds the domain and offer my first born for the registration?

I assume you mean pay for them.. Do you use any service or just contact ppl directly. I've noticed a ton of domains are unused, I'm wondering about ppls successes at gettting them at reasonable prices.

I've lost 90 pounds(160+ overall) fasting since January 2016 after failing for years on diets that just made me sick and miserable. Check out Prudently.com where I'm writing about fasting and weight loss. Get a Brandable Domain Name at Name Perfection.

Yes I meant pay for them. I found one site I wanted and contacted the whois email and offered a couple hundred dollars or so. He said he wanted to hold out for 4 or 5 thousand so I said thanks and got the Two-Words.com for $ 9.00. His site TwoWords.com now just has a single sentence saying "domain available for $3995.00". So I haven't really contacted people, although I did register a MyDomain.org for $ 9.00, and Godaddy informed me that MyDomain.com was available for $1000.00 but I'm going to wait to see if it looks like it would be worth it.

So I'm not sure that people are willing to sell their domains for cheap, since they leave .org's unregistered but demain huge $$$ for the .com. I don't quite understand it all yet.

Hyphen a dot com name if you can't get the non-hyphen version.

.info domains are garbage in my opinion.

.coms without hyphens for me. A trick that I have used to pickup some really great .coms is to put the number "1" in front of the name, example: if I find that "abcd.com" is taken, I am usually able to get 1abcd.com. This beats a hyphen or .info anyday, imho.

So 1mydomain.com would beat my-domain.com? I'm surprised that google would prefer that, but its an interesting idea.

That goes against the common refrain to front-load the domain name with your keywords. If you're going to do that, wouldn't mydomain1 be better?

Preference is for no hyphens. If domain name is taken, then one hyphen is Ok, but more than 2 begins to look spammy.

If targeting a specific country, the preference is for the relevant TLD, e.g. rubberduck.au for Australian target market. .info domains are Ok.

Remember, the domain name plays a small part in ranking; more important are other factors, e.g. good on-poage and off-page SEO.

A hyphenated .com every time in my own opinion. SE visits to your site will clearly see you domain keywords with the hyphen having no negative effect. This is much better than an underscore, or for that matter, .info.

There is a lot of information on using a hyphen here on the WF. Do a search and you will have all your hyphenated domain questions answered.

Don't be afraid to think out of the STANDARD box.Use a longer domain name as it will be promoted by affiliates anyway<YOUR DOMAIN.com>
A lot of OLD TIMERS haven't got it yet!
    For instance:My site= shoppingcartforwordpress (dot)com
    The Keyword string:
    shopping
    shopping cart
    shopping cart for wordpress
    cart for wordpress
    wordpress
By using the keywords as part of your pages typed content for google to index you start to rank higher
And by picking a longtailed keyword that is being searched for at a decent level you will rank higher anyway. Then you start climbing in ranking in the other related keywords.
PROOF: search shoppingcartforwordpress and see if the #1 ranking is by a large company with lots of $$ aiming for it.It's me and they will NEVER get ranked #1 for that term EVER>because it is my .com name.If the string is broken up > shopping cart for wordpress< I still rank on the first page. And it is still climbing as it was once on page 3.
In the end choose a .com
    Just A Thought!

It really depends on what you are doing with the site. Personally I only use .info for sites I send paid traffic to (i.e. landing pages for ppc campaigns). For sites built to rank in search engines and generate organic traffic, use .com with no hyphens. If that is not available, I prefer using a .net with no hyphen over a .com with one or more hyphens.
