How To Reframe Your Lottery AKA Viral Post Mentality To Get More Traffic And Sales
Most bloggers swing and miss horribly, whiffing, because their desire to go viral is based in fear. Like, they NEED to go viral because times are tough. Bills to pay, etc.
This is the lottery mentality at its best; hitting it big, through a blog post or cutesey video, then being on easy street, a logical thought in a warped, deluded mind.
Here's how to reframe this lazy destructive tendency: instead of trying to write a viral blog post, establish a viral online presence.
A blogger noted recently how he honestly sees me on 8 out of 10 blogs he reads, from top African blogs, to top Indian blogs to top American blogs in the blogging niche, through blog comments or guest posting.
By appearing to be all over the place I drive more blog traffic and increase my blogging income.
This is a viral online presence. I am like crabgrass in the blogging niche; ya can't get rid of me.
240 guest posts on Blogging Tips. More than 250 guest posts on The Huffington Post. Hundreds more spread across other blogs.
But I had to face, embrace and release some deeply held fears to BE the person who persistently helped other folks over the long haul versus being the greedy, desperate guy who wanted to write a few viral posts and then, to put my feet up.
Baseball Analogy
Stop trying to hit home runs. Hit singles. Daily. Publish helpful comments on blogs. Write 1 guest post daily. Publish 1-2 posts weekly on your blog.
Establishing a viral online presence is the smarter way to go too; a viral post gets sick views (if you should be so blessed to write one) then dies down quickly. Like those 1 hit wonders we all know of.
But if you establish a viral presence by being everywhere - through inspiration, love and service, not some desperate desire - the movement gains momentum, and unless you die or quit working the creating and connecting strategy, your traffic and profits will continue to increase over time.
Dive into your fears guys and gals. I know how scary this can be, when you decide to network, to make friends, to do JVs, to guest post, to comment on blogs and to put yourself out there. But being featured on some of the world's most famous sites in your niche so you can serve more folks, and seeing steadily increasing traffic and profits is well worth it.
