Creating my own website - quick question

Hi there,

Having a website created, is there something the web developer can do to stop people being able to "copy and paste" text from my copy? and wondering if this would be an additional cost.

Are there other things you can do to try and prevent people from doing this like putting on a copyscape logo on your site etc

Any tips would be really appreciated.

Cheers

Yes, there is some Javascript you can add to your source code that will disable right clicking. This will keep a lot of people from being able to copy. Also, if it is some information you want to keep people from copying, I would put the info into flash. This will keep anyone from copying or downloading the info.

If it's just the text you don't want copied, you can always use screen capture software once you've posted the text, and then replace the text with an image of the text. Depends on how much you have going on around the text, etc. But that's kind of a low-tech solution.

Well, if they want it, they will get it (even if they have to retype it). You can use Copyscape, that will alert you if anyone has copied and put it on their site. You can always put the content you don't want stolen in a protected area of your site. But I'm guessing you want this on your site's home page?

It also depends on your needs - will you need to edit your site on a regular basis? If so then (as someone mentioned) disabling right-click will scare off some people. If it's going to be permanent text, then try the Flash recommendation.

Just make sure you have all of your legal policies, copyright info on your pages just in case someone does feel a need to "borrow" your content.

To prevent copying, there's a technique were you put an image on the page as the first layer. I don't know how to do it. But they use it over at Metrolyrics.com. They use some kinda paper background. You can use transparent.
