Advice/Feedback from all self employed freelance web developers

Hey guys,
Im hoping to get some feedback or advice from all of the self employed freelance web developers here.

Im in the process of putting a business toolkit together focused primarily for self employed freelancers, who either run a business or work from home.

The toolkit at this point is proposed to consist of a comprehensive guide covering all aspects of the freelancing business along with a complete documentation pack, covering areas such as client management, taxes and book keeping.

Whilst I have a few good ideas as to what I could potentially include in this toolkit, I thought I would ask you all...

What would you like to see included in this business guide?
What are some frustrations that you all face that you would like to see addressed?
Are there any forms or documents etc that would assist you in your business?

Id really appreciate any feedback or thoughts you may have.

Thanks in advance,
John

One thing I struggled with this year with my taxes was understanding - depreciation? I'm not sure if that is it, but basically when do I deduct something as an expense vs depreciating it. Maybe if you can include some yes/no flowcharts that guide you on what to do at tax time: Should I depreciate this item? -> (then a slew of yes/no questions) -> then my answer "Yes, I should depreciate" or "No, I should not depreciate".

LOL I sure hope depreciate is the correct work. But whatever it was it kept me from filing my taxes until August. I think hand-holding at tax time will be helpful in keeping a lot of freelancers out of trouble.

Also, forms/documents for employing contractors. Ideas on book keeping/recordkeeping and some suggested tools (like Freshbooks) with tutorials on how to use them.

I have a lot of ideas for freelancers

I'd suggest you check out virtualassistantforums.com for info. They have put together a business start-up pack that should give you a good idea of what to include. Somewhat different business models but similar enough that there will be a lot of overlap.

    Good luck.

well, some of this sounds interesting -- but if you are gonig to try and sell me a kit like that, you're going to have to give me something that indicates that you have a lot of credibility in dealing with the world of taxes, etc.
