Anyone Getting Traffic from Blog Commenting?

That's the question. Is anyone getting traffic to their blog from commenting on other people's blogs?

I'm not interested in guesses or theories. I'd like to hear from people who have tried this and seen some kind of result, good or bad.
#blog #commenting #traffic
  • I have posted few blog comments in other people blog, but i don't think so I am getting traffic from that ( Most of the blog comments it won't be approved by the author or admin ), My traffic is always from search engine Google and Bing.

Blog commenting used to be a lot more effective at drawing traffic than it is now. Blame the comment spammers using automated software to pollute the blogosphere with their keyword loaded link spam.

The consequences were blogs using automatic no-follow links alongside services like Akismet and Bad Behavior to block spammers, as well as many bloggers either shutting down comments or going to manual moderation.

If your sole reason to consider blog commenting is to draw traffic (you can't really drive traffic, anyway), there are better ways.

That said, thoughtful blog commenting can be a valuable part of your strategy. It can help you make connections with other bloggers, or at least put you on their radar for an outreach program. Good blog comments can give you exposure to the blogger's audience, and you can draw some visitors. Good blog comments can also help you establish credibility and authority.

So don't skip blog commenting. Just do it for the right reasons.

I do blog comment marketing and it drives RELIABLE traffic to my sites.

It's not a TON of traffic but it is TARGETED and RELIABLE.

    Tips for success? Just two:

#1 don't get banned by doing SEO spam commenting. This involves junk/spun text with SEO target keywords linked to your site

#2 add value in your comments. No-"great post" is not a value adding comment.

I have done blog commenting before and still do because I am part of a Facebook content syndication group. I am not doing this for traffic though. Just leaving some love on fellow bloggers who are part of this blog community.

If you are looking for a lot of traffic this way...it's a ton of work!

    But it's very targeted.

You will have to leave useful comments and really have some genuine passion for blogging (and this IM industry).

The people who just leave comments for getting traffic to their offers will have the hardest time (with any method not just blog comments).

A good blogger to follow is Ryan B (from this very same forum).

He is very active with blogging and commenting.

Not me personally, I've never managed to harness it for traffic and only comment on blogs when I have something to contribute, other than "awesome post, thanks" etc.

People can get lots of traffic from it, and I salute them for it.

Yes I have my own experience with blog commenting. I did few blog commenting for a article of mine. Although I did not get much traffic from those commenting but my keyword ranking improved. Therefore I am quite sure it was those blog commenting which did the work for me because I did no other link building.

But make sure you are doing it manually and also adding value to the website. Otherwise your comments will not be approved. And all your efforts will be lost.

Blog commenting is a numbers game.
What I do when using blog commenting is this.

    Google Alerts.

Set up Google alerts in your niche, and every time a new article comes out, you comment on that article. (Google Alerts is a power house)

The more comments you have outthere the more traffic you´ll get.

Not all sites allows you to put in your link, but a lot of them will.

Remember to give real value when commenting.

    Forum commenting is awesome too.

Remember to have a signature link in your forum profiles.

Digital Point is perfect for this if you are in the MMO niche.

You shouldn't really look at blog comments as a traffic generation strategy IMO. Actually I think the validity of blog commenting for traffic is all but dead.

Instead, we use blog comments for tier 2 backlinks to our buffer sites

I think it depends on the popularity of the article and richness of your comment. If you have a one word answer on a very popular article you may not have that much traffic. However if your comment is engaging , many replies and replies back etc, and the article is popular now and for years to come, than I can imagine you will get a lot of highly targeted traffic to your blog or website. Especially if your name becomes a household name or at least has been around the internet for a while. People will be like, hey I know that guy and search you out and visit your materials if a link was not allowed on the blog comment area.

Rarely, because usually not the point of posting links in comments for most people who take to that practice LOL... more often than not it is used as just a way to get backlinks... and then ultimately end up with more organic traffic because better rankings as an indirect results of these backlinks in blog comments... that used to work anyway not So Much Anymore but seriously, looking back, how often do you click on links in blog comments when you are visiting someone else's blog? personally it's a rarity for me we would have to be pretty enticing... my gut tells me that holds true for most people which is probably why you're not getting direct traffic from blog post comments, but be patient as long as you are not spamming and your links are placed in a way that they added value and benefit to the discussion and are actually relevant it will eventually pay off

    Hi Jack,

    Yep

I have written eBooks on this eBook.

If you post genuine comments - 3-5 paragraph mini guest post sized numbers - on top blogs from your niche, for weeks, then months, you build bonds with top bloggers. The comments themselves and co-promotion opportunities that grow out of these friendships lead to all sorts of traffic.

first: you must avoid SPAM blog comment.
second: you must post long and meaningful even insightful comments for drawing attention.

to sum up: blog comment is another type of content marketing. Content is still king.

    Hello,

Guest posting on major blogs will get you traffic, if you post is about something good, if not no one will read it, even if it on a major blog, has to be a post that has high search volume.

Most of the high traffic blog have closed the comments section of there blog or it is moderated. As a result it is very difficult to post comments with your website link or use for do-follow backlinks. The best way is to leave a very helpful comment in the comments section of a popular blog (if they allow) and put your website in the website section of the comment area. I even noticed nowadays blogs are disabling the website section, so it has gotten very difficult. I now search for Blogs with facebook comments plugin or Disqus comments where i pitch my websites.

You have to be careful of two things to get traffic from commenting on other people's blogs:
    1. Don't get banned by doing SEO spam commenting. This involves junk/spun text with SEO target keywords linked to your site.
    2. Add value to your comments. No-"great post" is not a value-adding comment.

Example; to get 300 visitors each day to my website, how many blog comments I must write on niche target websites to rech this goal?

20 comments, 30 comments? More? Less?.......
What about blog commenting in target niche facebook groups? Some here on wf say this is waste time, what do you mean? Is it worth to reach good numbers of traffic every week, doing facebook group blog comments?

So when doing "genius comments" what is that? What is an genius comment?

Especially FB groups, when left a helpful comment with value, does FB fans of that group share it to others so I reach a wider audience?

Or they are not share good helpful comments?
Without sharing helpful comments, I think it is hard work, you must write 100 blog comments, when you will get 20-30 of them going to your website...

    marco005
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[11300649].message }}
  • It's very simple. If you want free traffic there isn't anything else than the usual things like blog commenting, Facebook and the rest. You have to take what you can get. And don't expect to get 300 visitors a day from blog commenting.

Is a glass half full or half empty? You seem to be someone who is more pessismistic and sees it as half empty. You only see how little traffic you get not as someone more optimistic, how much traffic you can get for free. You don't get the magic of it all. Stop making your crazy calculations. Just start a blog, make comments and while doing this you come across things you didn't know and see new opportunities and things get better. At least if you play your cards right.

People often complain that all internet marketing books are crap and full of lies. This may be true but these products made people do something and eventually lots of these people make a living on the internet and mostly with something else than what got them started.

Marco, if there was an exact formula of the kind you always seem to be looking for, it would be easy to spot. You'd simply find someone doing it and follow them around, clicking your abacus.

No, you can't predict a number of comments to get a specific number of visitors. One comment (or even most) will bring you few or no visitors, while another post you comment on may be picked up by one of the big blogs and bring you a spike of traffic.

As for FB groups, content-based groups seem to work the same way commenting on blogs does. Leave good, useful comments that advance the conversation and add to it (even good questions) and you may attract some visitors. Again, there's no magic formula.

Don't waste your time posting to groups set up for the purpose of submitting ads. No one goes to them to read the ads. They go to post their ads.

    Hi John,

great to hear from you in new year 2018!
Ok so I will concentrate on share good content on FB and boost it.
But my monthly budget only for FB ads is around $50-60 in the beginning, not more.

So I must tweak it, make youtube videos or good slideshares too to get traffic and guest posts with good content to get traffic and build a list first.
Then will see how a tiny target list will bring me money.

Ok John, I agree that is not so possible to make predict on traffic number only with doing blog comments, but with guest post it is possible, but most marketers not talk about.

When I do guest posts and look later in my wordpress dashboard (landing page) , I can see where the traffic is come from and how many visitors my article has got from A List or B List blog.... these traffic stats you can track.

I think it is better to focus on good content work and not look on traffic or subscriber numbers, this will follow later with good work.

    best wishes

Absolutely, you can track visitors from guest posts and comments...after the fact. While you can't predict the numbers in advance, nor what to expect from any one post, you can identify the places where you tend to get the best results from your guest posts and comments.

  • You make it sound so easy. Can you make good content? Everyday there are many thousands of new blogs and all these people think I write good content and my blog will become a success. But only a few people can really write good engaging content.

About Youtube videos. You can't just make a few videos and expect much traffic from them. For large traffic you have to build up your channel first. Therefore people usually concentrate on 1 thing insted of trying to do everything at the same time.

    Look at this guy:

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBI...LSuTTlw/videos

His channel/videos had 29,016,911 since he started end 2015. If 1,000 views equals about $2 for the advertisements, his channel had made him $58,000 from advertisements alone. By now he has 715,000 subscribers to his channel and, in the long run, each video gets 100,000 views or more. On average each video makes him more than $200. And he's also promoting affiliate products that bring in some extra cash.

But this guy focused on making videos only. If you don't have a popular channel your videos (good or not) will not receive many views.

The same with guest posting. No, you cannot predict how much visitors a guest post will generate. Even on the same blog not each article gets the same number of visitors. Usually 20% of your articles generate 80% of your income. And you can never predict if your guest post will be one of the 20%.

How many visitors you get also depends on which blog you did sumbmit it to. If you submit it to a site that accepts everybody you will hardly get any visitors. For good or top blogs with masses of visitors, it's very difficult to get accepted. You have to build a reputation first. You have to become a writer or some kind of freelance journalist.

No, you cannot only focus on good content, you also have to market your content. And that's why it is important to have many subscribers, likes, followers or whatever. You write your good content to get subscribers.

    @affiliated survivor;

I not so understand the concept of build a youtube channel first.
Then with a yt channel, when you get subscribers, they are on youtube and not on your website, but have it on your own website/ or in your own email list it is not better than have it on youtube?

When youtube ban your account, you lost all your channel subscribers.
But when you have your own email list............you will be in better position.

Is it not better when create youtube videos, embed link to your website in all videos to get traffic and subscribers- than have they sit on a youtube channel?

He has 298,000 subscribers and each time he posts a new video lots of these subscribers get noticed of this new video, may come to his channel, view the new video (thereby generating income from the advertisements) and may share the video with others thereby creating new viewers, subscribers and visitors to his sales page.

By this new videos get lots of views fast, his channel grows and more people will visit his sales page. Subscribers on YouTube will makeyour channel grow, will bring more visitors to your site or opt-in page and you will get more email subscribers.

Without many subscribers you will not get much views, not much engagement and upvotes and your video will not be shown at the right side of YouTube's video pages. To rank high you need subscribers and other positive reactions of viewers to your videos. So YouTube knows people like the videos and will rank them high.

  • You don't have to build your channel first. You can start promoting your list right away. But don't expect to build a large list fast this way. It all takes time, persistance and dedication.

Just watch some videos on YouTube or read some blogs about building and promoting a channel and make the best videos possible.
