Newbie question: Do affiliate marketers receive the product before they promote it?

I would think that one has to have an in-depth knowledge of the product/service BEFORE promoting it.

So I were to promote products from sites like ClickBank or even from the Warrior Forum, would I receive a "sample" of that product for free? Or does it come at my own expense?

Thanks a lot in advance!

The vendors on most affiliate platforms set their own rules, so sampling would not generally be platform wide.

Most vendors do not give checking copies (samples).

Most affiliates do NOT buy the products before they promote them.

That would of course be ideal, but most affiliates are broke.

If you want to make a real living in IM I strongly suggest you create your own products.

    Why?

Here are just a few reasons:

    1. You can then get the affiliates to promote your product.

    2. You're not sending your customers over to someone else to build their list and their business for them.

    3. You're in control. Many times vendors don't update their product, go out of business, change their product and more.

The more you look into it, the more I think you'll agree.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response.

Yes, I see your point regarding creating my own products. I wholeheartedly agree with you there. I considered getting into affiliate marketing as a way to start in IM, and then slowly transition into making my own products.

Would you recommend entirely eliminating this route and going straight to creating my products?

        Actually, yes, I would.

If you don't know how to do it, hire a mentor.

        I won't go into details here, but the basics are;

        1. Find a niche you love so much that you'd do it for free for 10 years without being paid. When you do that, you won't be working, you'll be following your passion.

        2. Develop a blog about that niche.

        3. Create a free product and build your list.

        4. Give insanely valuable content to them for free via the blog and email.

        5. Create your entry level product $17 to$47

        6. More insane content.

        7. Larger product course priced between $997 and $2,997

        8. More insane content

        9. Continuity product $47 to $297 per month.

        10 Rinse and repeat.

You now have the basis of the best funnel around. The devil is in the details.

Get help, because you'll end up spending 5 times more figuring it out on your own.

What you talk about reminds me a lot about Gary Vaynerchuk's approach to building a business/brand.

The only way to find out is to ask the vendor. I've had vendors on Clickbank who have given me their products for free when I told them I'm their affiliate. But most vendors, especially in the IM niche won't give their products for free because they don't know you.

  • Contact the Clickbank vendor, most of the vendor's provides free copy before promoting.
Do not buy to test any product with your own affiliate link, most of the vendors ban your affiliate link.
