Need Your Advice On This Opportunity.

Hi everyone,

I started this website and it's doing pretty well: collegefootballchatblog.wordpress.com

Once I get it growing a little more I want to do the following.
- Create an email pop up to collect emails.
- Sell digital ads.
- Sell an ebook to those email subscribers.

Currently I have a F.B. and Twitter for the page, as well.

Was looking for ANY advice at all to these topics or anything else you guys think I can do. Thanks!

buy a real domain would be my first suggestion before I even look at the site. While a .com may be not available there are plenty of new gtld's that may appeal to your user-base.

Upon looking at it. It's a start and you're on the right path but before worrying about email pools you should focus on design and user experience. Wordpress.com is awesome to start off with and there are many free themes. What you're using is nice but look for something more niche looking.

Ultimately the best solution for email gathering and popups would be Mailchimp or similar. Mailchimp is a great starter for new people and offer intergrations easily with WP plus their Pop Up submission boxes tend to get by Adblock.

    Good luck and happy hunting!

I'd definitely buy your domain and hosting immediately Andrew. Then I would simply create helpful content, guest post on college football themed blogs, comment on said blogs and build friendships with fellow bloggers in that niche.

I dig improving my writing skills, publishing helpful content for my audience and building my network, so as I grow my list and promote my eBooks and courses, I boost my sales.

    Create. Content.

Don't take this the wrong way, but why in the world would anyone buy an ebook on a site about college football? I'm a huge college football fan, so I am your target market. I cannot think of a single reason I would put down money for an ebook on any site about college football. None.

As said above, I would definitely get your own domain. Build something you actually own.

And not to be a downer, but I hope you realize that you are in for a huge uphill battle. There are tons of other websites out there with information and opinions about college football, most of which probably have much deeper pockets than you do.

Just out of curiosity Mike why wouldn't you buy an ebook about college football?

The reason I ask is I'm in the UK and own a football (or soccer) blog (just as a hobby), and there are plenty of writers who do well selling ebooks about soccer. Granted they are not generic ebooks, they tell a particular story (such as ebooks about soccer tourism which is becoming popular, or fan experiences following a certain team etc). But they sell well for what they are in a pretty specialized niche. Just interested to know why you think it wouldn't sell in the US?

Because I just cannot imagine what someone is going to put in an ebook that I cannot find for free elsewhere.

It sounds like you are brand new to IM. Yes you will need your own domain and hosting.

I wouldn't focus too much on finding the 'perfect' theme just yet.

Focus more on creating content and then getting 'targeted' eye balls to it first.

The promotion and traffic will be the main part (and the hard part).

You can always upgrade your theme later (that's the easy part).
