How Did You Promote Your Book AFTER Launch?

The notorious "Amazon Book Launch" is one thing, been there, done that. But, what kind of outbound promotion have you folks done for promoting your books beyond the launch? Amazon PPC is one good way that is still low cost and pretty much set-it-and-forget-it once you have a winning combination. But, what other specific ways are there to get in front of people who buy books that you have tried? Good, bad, and ugly experiences are all welcome.

There are lots of paid book promoting packages that you can buy. Since I have never done this, I won't recommend a specific service.

If you want to go the DIY route, there are many alternatives as well. Here's an article listing 50 ways to do it. There are many others.

You really should Google "promote my book" or something similar - there are so many possibilities - but you will have to choose what works for you and your situation.

There have been many threads on this forum in the past listing places online to promote your own book. Use the search function and you'll have lots of ideas.

    I've had success with:

    - free giveaways (well after launching)
    - promoting via blog posts
    - promoting via my blog sidebar (little widget)
    - promoting on social media
    - promotional tribes on Facebook and Google Plus, specifically for Kindle

I had some positive experience doing SEO for an e-book site.
I can tell that SEO isn't the first activity that pops to mind when promoting a book but in the long run 100% worth the time and money spent on it.

    Some general tips:
    Include primary keyword in URL
Do proper backlink profiling (from relevant places)
You landing should start with a compelling image and contain some interesting excerpts from the book that should also contain relevant keywords. Then there a clear CTA button!
Also, include short pitch for a book and a reviews section.
If applicable to your book, include some free download materials (for example useful charts that users can use and see your branded logo).

Research some interesting e-book sites that do well in SERP for some inspiration.

Thanks everyone. Good suggestions. I would be interested in some pay-for-promo places if anyone has actually used them and had positive results. I found one place in Maine that you pay like $40 per quarter and they get your book in front of 100,000 twitter followers who like to buy books. Things like that. I figure if I can find a dozen or so of these I can narrow it down over a few months of testing and pick four or five that actually produce. But, I'd like to at least narrow it down to a dozen from the hundreds of fakes if possible. All that diy seo stuff and social and blogging and all is pretty much a given. So, looking for the extra.
