  • You may try Traffic Travis. It provides you with Google, Bing, and Yahoo keyword results plus you can set the location as well if you want keywords that rank per location.

Semrush and Longtailpro is one of my favorite keyword research tool. I am using them from past 6 months and its really very helpful to find right keywords for my blog.

I use Market Samurai and the build in Bing Keyword tool.

For long tail there are tools around that can crawl the
net for questions around a specific keyword. Like "where
can I get product xyz in Nevada?"

Normal KW-tools don't spit them out, at least I never saw one.

Maybe look for them because you will have low competition.

Google keyword Planner is one of the best keyword research tool. Do you need to try it.

If you knew why google has built this tool and why it's
free then you knew that it's not a good tool.

Sure Steve. By giving it away for free they made people
addicted to it. What they also do is giving the exact
same keywords to everyone! So what happens?

To get traffic everybody is competing with all those
who are going for the same keywords and google
makes more cash because you have to bid higher.

Another point is that there are way more keywords
around than they show. Why don't they show more?

Well, same answer as before... les keywords = more competition = higher bids.

What kind of tool do you need to be paid or free? Determine it

I guess you get what you pay for. It's a much better tool when you are an actual advertiser. They offer more keywords and the estimated views are broken down considerably into more precise statistics. If you are a PPC advertising aficionado these improvements can be very helpful.

Still, the free version will meet most people's needs, even if you are just looking for a good long-tail keyword for title and text. Ranking for these words is where you should devote your time and energy instead of getting bogged down in statistics that can take a long time to become a reality for your particular site or page.
