Wordpress site to GoDaddy?

Hi everyone,

Looking to buy a domain for my wordpress site. I see GoDaddy offers migration services and it seems a bit cheaper. Thoughts?

If it's 'cheaper' it's probably a 'coupon deal' which normal for GoDaddy...but that does mean next year when the domain renews it will be more expensive.

A domain is what - $15? I do not buy domains where I have sites hosted - that's just a cautionary move. Should hosting go down I still have access to repoint my domain/site to another host. Most hosts will help you set up your site on a new domain - or have instructions to help you do it yourself.

I do not like Go Daddy. Later today I am moving my one Go Daddy site to another host where I have all my wordpress sites.

I stopped using go daddy years ago because they always seem to have challenges.

I don't know about now, but their interface used to be about as intuitive as a brick to the head.

I have urls with them, just not sites.

I agree with Kay King, you should NOT keep your urls where you host.

Also, keep your own back up of sites away from where they are hosted. If the hosting goes down you still have your backup.

Godaddy managed WordPress is quite expensive and have lack of features. So, it is not a wise decision to go with them. Better go with other hosting companies like siteground, Dreamhost, Bluehost etc.

Are you looking to move a wordpress site to a new host? It's pretty easy, you can likely do it yourself and save some money. There are many tutorials on this, here is a link to one - http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutoria...h-no-downtime/

You want to buy a domain but you also want to migrate to GoDaddy?
First of all, I would suggest you move away from GoDaddy - they are one of the most lacklustre and unreliable hosting providers online. Their customer support is awful and they're just not worth the money you'd pay.

As for buying a domain, you can get one from NameCheap or you can get one from WPX Hosting and get free WHOIS Privacy with it.
WPX Hosting are also a better hosting provider than GoDaddy (almost any host is), though obviously more expensive.
Bluehost aren't much cheaper however, and they will charge you $150 just to migrate to them. Plus, Bluehost belong to the EIG who you should also avoid.

WP Engine are better for WordPress but they don't provide managed site migrations.
WPX Hosting are tailored for WordPress and do actually provide managed site migrations too, meaning that all of the technical work is taken care of for you; so again, I would recommend them.

I don't think it is so bad having your domain and hosting in the same place, provided that the company you're signed up with are reliable to begin with. Another reason why I would suggest that you just completely avoid GoDaddy.

  • I have few Domain's and hosting with Godaddy, till today there is no issue,
I used coupon code and purchased for 5 years plan, so it is little cheaper.

I use godaddy for cheap deals on throw-away domains. I do not register my important domains with them. I agree with Kay, keep your registrar a registrar and don't do anything else with them. Also, if email is a prime means of communicating with your customers host it on Google's servers not with your web hosting. If your site is down your email is still up.
