Hi there, I am new to internet marketing but I have been getting my feet wet with some information on becoming profitable in this business. Somehow i feel there's more to learn in this before one can begin taking action (or maybe that's just me) which is why i registered in this forum. I have come across plenty of informative stuff eversince i joined here. I just want to ask some few questions. I took part in some online course and they spoke about SEO as one of their strategies, i'm not quite sure if that is something i would want to go for as it seem to take much time to get you ahead. What do you think guys? One other thing is i want to promote other people's offers before i can have my own product, and with that i'm not sure if i still need to have my own website or just a landing page.
Thank you

Hi Khul and welcome to the WF community.

First thing first, SEO skill really takes a lot of energy and time to master for newbies, don't recommend you to start with this one.

Promoting other peoples offers (Affiliate Marketing) it's probably the best way to start learning and getting real experience on the field, I do recommend finding something that you would like to promote and feels right for you.

The strategy it's to create a squeeze page for people to subscribe to your own list, build some trust providing valuable information in your emails and them promote your affiliate offer.

For this to work at its best you'll need some tools, and lastly yes! it is better to have your own website.

After learning how to promote, building a successful profitable funnel and getting the experience and knowledge you need then you can build your own product.

By the way this is just one of the many ways to make money online, the answers to your questions are related to this system. And that's why I show you this one

I've been promoting affiliate / CPA offers for over 16 years.

Below is basically how I do it. However, as you will see, I do things quite differently than most.

I heavily promote PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers. This is because there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is fill out a form, so conversion rates are typically much higher compared to offers that require a sale to be made.

I favor offers that have a make, get or save money benefit to them, as they have overall worked the best. They also tend to have the greatest mass appeal (will be of interest to a large general audience), so the potential exists to produce high volume and they are fairly easy to cross promote on the back-end.

Some of the verticals (niches) I have done extremely well with are: education, insurance, loans, debt, credit, mortgage, assistance, discount offers, homeowner offers, etc...

The bulk of the offers that I promote pay $20-$40 per lead, but I also promote offers that pay more and less. You don't want to get too caught up on what an offer pays because how well it converts is just as important. For example, if you have an offer that pays $9, but if it converts at 2X or more of a $20 offer, then it will perform about the same or possibly better. At the same time, if you have an offer that pays $90 and it converts poorly, it may not even be worth promoting.

Bottom line: it's far easier to get someone fill out a short form than to get them to pull out their credit card and make a purchase. So why struggle with trying to sell this or that, when you can provide free information that users want/need and get paid well doing it.

I drive traffic to the offers by acquiring 3rd party email data, which is data that the users have shown an interest in a specific vertical(niche) and have given permission to receive messages from third parties. You get the opt-in record for every user and it's 100% can-spam compliant.

By acquiring data instead of buying traffic, I'm building assets that I then own and can market to over and over at very low cost. So I control and can drive traffic on-demand to the offers I'm promoting.

You can also acquire what is call rev-share data (revenue-sharing). Which is 3rd party data as I mentioned above, except you get it for $0 upfront costs. You then split the revenue generated from sending it, with the data provider. So you are only paying for data(leads) that convert. This is a way to start for those with tighter budgets.

So for example, if I'm getting data for life insurance, I then send a life insurance PPL offer. If I'm getting education data, I send an education PPL offer. So I'm just matching the vertical to a relevant PPL offer on the front-end. In addition, I'm always collecting my opens / clickers, segmenting and removing unresponsive users. So I'm essentially converting the data from quantity to quality and then cross promote offers on the back-end to the most responsive users.

Basically, I monetize the data using PPL offers because they offer the path of least resistance to generating conversions($$$) and converting the data into cash producing assets.

Obviously, there is more to it, but done right it can be extremely profitable. Everyone that I know that is in the business and knows what they are doing, for the most part, does 6-7 figures. While that's a huge range, much comes down to one's ability to scale and effectively build / manage the infrastructure needed to scale.

    Something to think about.

Good explanation of PPL for newbs.

The whole key to IM IMO is having a product or service you can now pay google via ppc for and have enough conversions so you profit, SEO is nothing but scammers today and google is targeting legit seo now if you're good.

So google is the beast and whatever you try to do as a service or sell as a product, if you can't pay google ppc and do enough biz with high conversion ratio content that leads to sales, you might as well not even do it.

google is now the key to IM, SM is over blown and does not produce like gogole, I can sit here all day long and tweet on Twitter and hit the top spot on major search pages and guess what no one uses that waste of time for searching, no one. As to timelines, they all move too fast so Twitter is 1000% saturated, I dont care if you have 10K or 100K or 1Million followers, they all follow others and unless they're watching their feed when you just happen to be tweeting they do not see your tweet. Just look at the huge celeb accounts 50Mil or 100Mil or whatever, what is their engagement? ALMOST NOTHING compared to their followers.

Bottom line, 70% of traffic is now on smart phones in usa, 80% imo is on google, so when they search, they don't see any organic first view, it's all ppc ads.

So if you really think organic seo works today, it doesn't when you compare volume to ppc.

#1 ppc ad on a term with high conversion content will produce many times what the top organic spot will do, and the organic spot can't be high response like a paid page can be, so it ends up not converting well.

That all being said, ppc and a product/service that converts to still make money after paying google is what works today.

Affiliate programs all look like scams, email is spam, its do a service make a product and build a high conversion ratio landing page you can test with 1000 clicks. After that, you either made enough to buy another 1000 clicks, or you move to next idea.

So any IM biz today has to budget for 1000 clicks and enough dough to make a high conversion squeeze page and then get a ppc guru that knows how to do a campaign so you're not wasting dough with google which is the biggest ripoff going, just try to setup ppc without knowing how to do it, you end with 99% of your money going to thiefs on partners not on real searches on goog.

So IM is now very simple, it's not build it and they will come, its build a high response landing page, test it with 1000 clicks and if you make a profit after the sales you got a company

Social media is the biggest waste of time there is, people are looking for what you can do or sell all day on google, what are they doing on social media, posting selfies and writing about their meaningless lives.

Oh, B2B is the key too, a service or product for businesses and I can guarantee you most guys running a business ard not all day on FB or Twitter wasting time like the knuckleheads do there.

      My 2 cents

which affiliate networks have Pay Per Lead offers? I have searched and searched and can't find many, especially in my weight loss and wellness niche. I have been told that CashNetwork has an abundance of PPL but I need an invite. My coaching teaches CashNetwork for making money offers, but they no longer recommend CashNetwork and thus provide no invite. any suggestions?

I can't recall ever seeing a PPL offer for weight loss and I've been promoting them for over 16 years.

SEO is a tough go for the new marketer. Get your own website and hosting for sure.

Pick a niche that you have a genuine interest in. Don't pick a niche just for monetary reasons...that will be an uphill battle.

In order to learn you will have to do more than just reading. You will have to implement what you are learning.

    Take action consistently, daily etc.

Don't try to be perfect or spend all of your time 'over analyzing' everything before you do it.

This is what paralyzes 97% of people.

You learn by experience and not by theory.

Actually...we learn by the experience (and by mistakes)...correcting them after making them (mistakes).

Most people don't get this far because they believe everything must be perfect first before action is taken.

    This is backwards.

Get some good content (15 posts or so), then look up) and pick a monetary product based on your chosen niche.

Don't over focus on the money but we do need something to sell to KEEP us motivated.

Then start researching ways to promote your helpful, useful content so that it can be consumed by targeted readers.

Another poster above said you need tools.

Yes you will like an Aweber Auto Responder, lead capture page etc.

    Have a long term plan.

Follow through with consistent action and most importantly...a determined mindset!

Read personal development everyday (in your downtime). This helps you 'reprogram' your mind to work for you...to a mindset of a successful person.

Be prepared for frustration, long hours of work in the beginning and to not get paid for your first little while of constant action (first 3 to 6) months.

PS: I am not saying it will be a long time before you start earning. You will start making $$$ when you focus more on giving and coming from a place of 'service'.

This is the ONLY industry where you can earn while you earn!

    Passion is needed!

    Hope this helps.
