Ebay Sellers- It was nice knowing ya!

(Side note. I am an Ebay PowerSeller)

Tomorrow 10/1/2009, the new TRS policy goes into effect. I've already seen the testing of this and what it is doing. It's NOT good.

In short order, if your a power seller and sell in a high volume category with other sellers, you should assume you will have NO SALES for the month of October (if you do not meet the TSR requirements)

If you DO meet the TSR requirements, make AS MUCH money as you can in Oct, as now you've got a target on your head that makes it VERY easy to bid, win and then leave 1's in your DSR report to knock you out of the TSR reqirements for the next evluation period.

Bad, bad move on Ebay's part. I went from paying Ebay an avarage of 3k in fee's each month, to well.. lol.. maybe now $200 a month. All because one seller decided to bid on a few of my auctions and sabtoage my star rateing in the shipping time catagoy.

Man.. that sucks if that's the case. When big money is involved there is no doubt some will exploit changes like that.

I was an ebay power seller from the time they started the program. At one time I had two accounts at power seller level. As Donahoe started implementing changes I let one power seller account go idle -no listing. In March of this year I quit listing on the other account. Too much BS in the DSRs and other ebay policies.

I may a few items on ebay, but I am no longer thrilled about ebay. I made my full time living on ebay from 1998 until 2009.

I used to recommend ebay to anyone who would listen. I no longer do that, but will recommend it for someone in a bind needing money. I recommend local sales on Craigslist more often than ebay.

Ebay is not dead for small sellers, but it is not like it was 5 years ago......a fun place to sell and make some money. The fun is gone.

I stopped selling there in 2005. It just wasn't profitable. With the DSR thing and the feedback changes the deck is stacked against all but the very top brand name sellers.

Well this doesn't surprise me, one more bad decision by Ebay. They just seem to get worse and worse all the time and they certainly don't listen to any feedback on their decision from their sellers.

The buyer is always right as far as Ebay is concerned and that is very wrong - it's the sellers that are paying Ebay all those fees, they should be more concerned about keeping their sellers happy.

Agreed. If not I will not be doing IM and get to know all the nice guys and gals here .

I seldom have the opportunity to run to the post office to send out the parcels. They come to my home with a van to collect my parcels.

Still dreaming of those good old days and not forgetting the eBay annual convention and being surrounded by newbies for tips.

    Get a grip.

I make good money from ebay, and if your going to let something let
that stop you from running a successful business, maybe you should
pack your bags up and cry to your mom.

In business, there is no gaurantee what will work for you one day and
what won't the next. But YOU still have control over YOUR income.

    Not ebay.

To put all the blame on ebay and blaming ebay for everthing that doesn't
go right in your business, you need a serious wake up call.

If it's hurting you that much, go make money doing something else.

I make money selling affiliate products and physical products on ebay, your
not supposed to have all your eggs in one basket in the first place.

    Goodluck 2 ya

I like to write like I talk nowadays, raw and unfiltered. I don't like
editing much not for speed, but it's just my personality.

sometimes my spelling suffers a little as a result, so forget
        you scorfford

As far as the changes affecting me....

NOTHING affects unless I let it. If for whatever reason these
changes DO effect me, they havn't affected me PERSONALLY,
it just means I need to find a better way of doing business.

        In other words:

I'm not placing the blame on ebay, my list, my website, or my
family for problems -because I like to SOLVE THEM.

you can let it STOP you, or you can
let it DRIVE you to succeed and grow
        even more.

Hopefully, you'll get over your hurt feelings and airing your
dirty laundry and get back to work and figure out how to
        solve that problem.

If you have to, start a new account, talk to customer service,
wait it out, do affiliate marketing - I don't care.

Just don't complain about how ebay's doing this, and doing that
        to YOU and YOUR business.

How often do you come on these forums to talk about how Ebay
has helped thousands of people make money online?

How often do you come on here to talk about your success with
ebay prior to this policy change?

Probably not until a problem has occured.

People don't give ebay much credit for anything any more. They
complain about fee hikes, policy changes, etc...but I guess some
        people are just never satisfied.

I've been affected by ebay's policies, but you make the problem
worst for yourself when you show negative emotion towards it.

Don't take this as a personal attack, take it as a challenge to look
beyond this and if need be, try making money doing "something else"

Oh don't worry, it will affect you too. Just a matter of time.
By the way, your video says your best month was $500

That's not even close to what I and some other power sellers are doing per month.
So you might be able to see, why I'm a little upset at what is going on.

I'm guessing your talking about the "featured listing" section where high volume occurs and being not allowed to advertise there without high DSR's?

This is a problem you can try contacting ebay about to solve about your
    DSR's being sabotaged by competition.

Trust me, ebay will sort this out.

I like selling higher end products. I sell less in quantity so i don't need to
sell high volume to make nice profits. I can easily do 3 to 10 a week and
not do anything for a month. But this is just my preference to approaching
    ebay.

Maybe you could get out of that niche, and find another because...you
    don know there are others...right?

woah. I laughed so hard at that comment.

I'm not out to prove a "point" to anybody here. So I'm not knocking you - but your comment has no weight or meaning to me.

So you were only hurting yourself wasting your time trying to hurt my feelings.

And off the record, that account is just that one to show proof THAT strategy works and it is doable as I "do it a few times a week". I openly state it will create a nice side income for anyone willing to do the work, but don't expect to be a millionaire from just that one strategy.

I have multiple ebay accounts. With multiple results. Atleast I practice what I preach. Can you say the same?

all of you are entitled to your opinion - as I'm entitled to mines...so the rest of you can continue whining about "feebay this and that", I'm off to make more money and helping others who aren't "bitter" and who can accept responsiblity for running their business and for themselves.

I wish you ALL continued success (or non-success?)

What type of changes does eBay make now a days that aren't bad for the sellers? Hmm, let's see . . . first they take away our ability to comment on buyers which leads to . . . go figure, sellers getting ripped off by buyers . . . Then they took away our ability to offer shipping insurance . . . which means that we personally have to insure every single item . . . because otherwise if it gets damaged it's automatically our fault and we get screwed. I swear, sometimes I think the eBay big wigs sit up there and try to come up with ways to get sellers out of the market place. As soon as my IM picks up, I'll be following you out the door. I like being an eBay PowerSeller, but it's hard to adapt and readjust everytime they throw another curve ball designed to screw their sellers over.

eBay has been implementing countless policies during the last few years.

In good years (I was a powerseller for 5 years) I was paying something like $3 to 7k fee a month to them until I find it is a tedious work to keep up with their ever changing policies to screw the sellers. I stop eBaying since early this year.

Maybe only one person will side with ebay here. Like Paypal, they make the worst decisions for the seller. They are so out of touch with powersellers. Ebay live 2008 was such a failure, they didn't even try to reschedule ebay live 2009.

And who really needs ebay now to get a good deal on any item?

I'm by no way a fan of the recent changes at ebay, especially the one that prevented sellers from leaving negative feedback. But, it was ebay a few years ago that allowed me to quit my job and move half way around the world so for that I will always be great full...

I'm just glad I made the decision once finding products that sold to create my own sites to sell them as well, "keeping your eggs in one basket" so to speak and solely using ebay will always be risky as ebay can and will change the rules at anytime.

That said I will continue to use ebay as it still brings in an additional income...

Also, after just checking the ebay search results this morning the recent change has just promoted quite a few of my listings to the top of the search results and sent my competitors further down, so far so good!

    Cheers,
    Danny.

eBay has become a nightmare for the average seller. I too am leaving them asap due to these somewhat silly seller policies.

As I write this, I have a deadbeat buyer who has not yet payed for their item even after a reasonable time, and a very friendly and somewhat pleading reminder. This person has promised to pay on a certain date, and has not yet done so, and therefore has lied.

So under the new eBay policies, what can I do? pretty much nothing except report it to eBay and hope for the best. In the mean time, I'm still sitting on the item. I don't dare to be more stern with the buyer because I fear that if/when they do pay and I ship, they will leave bad feedback and lower the almighty DSR rating and get me in trouble.

eBay has simply become more trouble than its worth. And their demon child PayPal is just as bad or worse because according to them, the buyer is always right.

Thank goodness that my other IM interests are beginning to pay off. For me, its goodbye eBay and good riddance!!

It is the same concept of using Squidoo, Hubpages or any other site that is out of your control to run your business. They can change the rules at any time and usually do.

Ebay can be a great way to start along with the free Web 2.0 sites but you want to build your own to control it.

Maybe a group of powersellers need to get together and create a new version that balances the needs. Combine it with a social network and you have a future billion dollar idea. You could even sell services and affiliate programs and compete with Clickbank while you are at it.

Guys, I have been on Ebay since the 90's and it seems every day they come up with a new way to make my experience worse.

I mean getting rid of personal checks hurts a lot. Last week I spent hours on the phone trying to get paypal to realize that I no longer live at my old address. They kept saying they needed to send stuff to my old address and wanting to call me at my old phone number.

The worst part is that pay pal put a cap on how much money I can make every month. Making money on Ebay has gone from very hard to very impossible.

How such a foolish company can survive is a miracle to me.
