Buying articles from the Wayback Machine a good idea?

Iv bought some articles from archivedownloader who claim to manually scrape content from the Wayback Machine. To be fair the quality is pretty good and passed Copyscape. Just wanted to know is buying deindexed content from the Wayback Machine a good idea? Cheers

    You are buying stolen content. It is not from the wayback machine. the scraper is using the wayback machine to find and index it. Stolen content is stolen content.

    Have you run this through copyscape yourself. And, I do not mean the url in the free search, I mean purchased searches where you actually copy and paste the article and run it that way

    Write your own or hire someone to write it for you

      Thank you for the reply. A lot of other people have mentioned similar things to you.. No I used the free search on Copyscape. I Would really like to know if Google would penalise people using deindexed content from the Wayback Machine? Or from a scraper?

        You should be more concerned about the owner of the content coming back and suing the crap out of you and/or reporting your site for knowingly stealing their content.

    I see, but say if the website and domain expired a few years ago. What would be the circumstances then?

    The way I am looking at it is if a domain along with the website expired a while back, the owner possibly wouldn't care anymore?

      Sounds like someone trying to justify piracy.

      Copyright, at least in the USA, lasts for the author's lifetime plus 75 years.

      I have content that I pulled down years ago that I still have Google alerts set for. And I do still send out DMCA takedown notices on the content, with CC: to both the webhost and domain registrar.

      Here's a test for you. Ask the person selling the stolen articles if they'll cover you for any trouble you get into from using their stuff. I'm guessing you won't be able to hear the answer over the hysterical laughter.

      Even if the original owner doesn't care, you open yourself up to the vultures that will sue you for using copyrighted material even if they don't own the copyright.

      A Google penalty could be the least of your worries.

      The short answer to your original question is no, it's not a good idea.

      There are a number if different circumstances that could have taken place:

      The owner might have just switched domain name

      A business may have gone out of business

      A business may have rebranded

      A business may have gone out of business but the assets sold to a third party.

      After you've determined which is the case you need to establish how the work was created and under what contract.

      Does the business own the copyright or is it still the property of the individual.

      Once you know all of this you can then start to have a guess of what the circumstances would be.

      In some cases you will be legally able to use the work but in the vast majority you won't.

      As with most of this type of thing consult a solicitor over the views of people on the internet.

      Maybe? Are you trying to establish a business, a continuous money stream or are you interested in a short-lived site?

      I have stuff you can find on the wayback machines on domains that I let expire. The stuff is still mine and if you put it up on your site, I sue you for. Why? Because it's my stuff and I did not say it's ok for you to use.

      You want to use my stuff, contact me.

      By that I mean, why don't you go through the wayback machine, find articles you like, find the owner, contact the owner, buy from the owner? I know, it takes work. Still, it's safe. If a safe stream of money is what you're after, shouldn't you use safe methods of creating it?

    Not a good idea bro cause even it passes copyscape that content is already known by Google even if its sold content . They are places you can get your own unique contents written for you like fiverr or iwriter so I suggest you get your owns content for you if you have a small budget that way you stand out for duplicates.

    I guess (or hope) by now that you know...scraping, stealing or trying to profit from other people's hard efforts (even if they failed , quit etc) is just wrong.

    You have got to earn your results. Pay your dues ect !

    The bottom line is you should come up with your own content, regardless if you write it yourself or outside someone else to write it. If you do anything else, then you are looking for trouble.

    Looking up Copyscape it appears to be a plagiarism checker. Presumably they want to cheat on a paper or some shit rather than do the work themselves, and figure old versions of stuff that isn't easily searched for will make them less likely to get caught. Not sure what this has to do with beermoney unless they've got a site that pays for writing essays and they pay more than the cost of wherever they're buying from
