2 Keyword Tools, What's The Difference???

Hi all.

I'm sorry if this has been covered before but I cannot find an exact answer to it.

What is the difference between the two keyword research tools:

Wordtracker
Google Adwords Keyword Tool

They both seem to work differently.

For example, I typed in both tools the phrase

quit smoking today

and got different results for both. In wordracker it came back with no searches at all but in the Google Keyword tool it came back with a Global Monthly search volume of 2,400.

Just wondered why that should be :-)

The Google one is more thorough, betters, and won't cut you off after x number of keywords. You can pretty much drill to infinity, to sub-sub-sub-sub-niches with the Google tool.

There is more...but those are the basics!

WordTracker (WT) has 2 versions, free and paid. The paid version gives more information compared to the free version. Google AdWrods Keyword Tool (GAKT) is free to use.

WT grabs data from Dogpile and Metacrawler queries while GAKT grabs data from Google search queries.

Since their data source is different so does their results.

I personally use GAKT as my primary keyword research tool.

    Thanks,

Yeah I always wondered the same thing, asked the same questions. My guess is that they use different searchengines to compile the results (Wordtracker uses metasearchengines). and the Google Adwords tool is for Adwords advertisers, thus it uses the content network as well as the search network. Plus broad match is selected by default, and singular and plural are lumped together. So for organic search results I use either Wordtracker or the SEO book research tool. And Googles tool to find profitable keywords and advertiser competition.
