depends on your business model. sometimes the amount of eye balls is more important and can prove a useful stat to sponsors or investors.

I can think of two scenarios where the sheer number of eyeballs is most important.

One, if you're operating on the CPM model, where your stock in trade IS eyeballs.

Two, if you're dealing with sponsors or investors who've already forgotten the dotcom crash, where otherwise savvy investors bought into the notion that eyeballs without revenue was somehow a good thing.

          Amen to that.

As you can see by my post earlier I have the same thoughts.

When people who know what they're talking about say "focus on value", they usually mean that you should focus on a fair exchange. You provide something that helps people get to where they want to be, and they provide you with cash in exchange.

If you are a product/service vendor, this means showing that you understand the wants of the people you serve by providing information that helps them make a decision, as opposed to hammering them with sales pitches. It also means you focus on providing a product or service that does, indeed, help people get where they want to go as opposed to fluff, smoke and mirrors just to make a buck.

If you are an affiliate, the same basic approach is in place. Provide factual information, honest reviews, and other information that will help your audience make an informed decision. One former member used to brag about writing "little fictions" to sell affiliate products - stories about trying everything to solve a problem until finding Product X, which worked miracles. These "little fictions" (aka, lies or frauds) were the opposite of providing value.

When we were kids, my brother and I would always fight over the last piece of something - cake, pie, whatever. My mother would cut it in half and hand each of us a piece. She knew she got the pieces evenly split when my brother and I both thought we got the bigger piece.

It's the same with your subscribers. They should feel like they're getting the long end of the stick getting your content for free. You should feel like you're getting the long end because they are buying the stuff you recommend, and thanking you for recommending it.

It's the same with your customers. They give you cash, you give them your product/service, and both of you should leave the table thinking you got the best of the deal.

              Make sense?

It all depends on your intentions.

What are you trying to accomplish?

    Are trying to make money?

Creating an audience by using paid traffic doesn't necessarily mean sales. It can mean building your credibility.

Yes credibility is important but it's more of something that is earned over time.

I don't recommend using paid traffic to build an audience unless you have very deep pockets to keep digging into.

I will only use paid traffic for one thing...to send targeted traffic to a highly converting sales funnel that will produce enough leads and sales to make enough profit to keep using it...and to keep profiting from it.

There are enough forms of free traffic strategies out there for building an audience.

The best product for converting leads into sales is value.

This value giving thing is a process that will take some time to establish.

Most people are mainly used to believing that what the Gurus are sharing is real value...so over time you will earn your audience / leads respectively by continually giving them value over and over.

It has never been an "either/or" situation . . . you can do both at the same time. The goal of building an audience is to generate leads for your business, isn't it?

Help human beings by solving 1 specific problem related to your niche. Become more skilled by practicing your core skills in that niche daily. Build an email list so it is easy for those people to get your blog posts and offers. Remember that you are dealing with humans, not leads or numbers or business building blocks.

There is absolutely no use of going for paid traffic, as leads are nothing without it getting converted into sales and that is not possible if leads are via paid option. So, you have to build up an audience which is obviously difficult and time taking thing, but it is something that is surely going to put you in better chance for the future!

Building an audience and generating leads are one in the same. When you're generating leads you're building an audience so long as you're cultivating a relationship with the subscriber.

An audience are people interested your stuff and you have to turn these into leads, ie subscribers via your sales funnel.

Hey! What happened to content? Did you kill it?

On a serious note: Isn't making money the point?

Increasing audiences makes sense only if that increases the number of sales at an acceptable cost, no?

Why are there so many 'this vs that' questions where there is no 'vs,' either because one of the terms in clearly the winner or because there is no 'vs' only 'and' as in facebook ads and email marketing (not facebook ads vs email marketing)?
