How can I cut out sections of an mp4?

I'm trying to figure out how to do a certain type of cutting of mp4's?

So for example lets say you got a video from youtube. It's got section of 30 seconds here, or 60 seconds there, etc etc and you want to cut out these sections.

So you're NOT cropping a bit from both ends, or anything like that. What I'm trying to do is delete short sections, leaving the remaining parts as the main video all merged.

Is there an easy way to do this?? I can't find anything for beginners. Ideally I was hoping to find some kind of online free service. There's a few sites that will cut ends off the beginning and end of the video leaving you the middle. But it's part out of the middle that I want to delete and save the remaining as one video.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

You can try this. Cut both the 1st and 2nd sections of video which you need. Now you have both required clips which you need to play back to back. Now merge both videos back to back. So here you achieve your required video.

You can do this by VLC, or Filmora (software)

Ya I know I could clip and merge it all, just that's like 10 times the work. It's amazing they don't have some program online that doesn't allow you to just cut out and delete sections of an mp4. They have every other tool. just not that apparently.

    Hey Nina,

I have got the perfect solution for this problem.
Use Camtasia (Trial version available) developed by Techsmith.
You can cut the section easily by just drag and drop. No technical knowledge is required for this.

    Hope this will help you.

    Regards,
    Chris

    Hi Nina,

What you are looking for is a plain old video editing application. You described the most basic editing task that is the core functionality of most video editing software.

If you want a simple to use app that does just that type of editing, without huge learning curve, try out Shotcut, it's a handy little app that perfect for a quick cut & splice video editing task.

dvdvideosoft used to have a tool like this where you could cut a part out of a video and use the remaining video. Unfortunately, that company is paid now lol.

I honestly don't know any tool that allows you to do that without merging or re-encoding some part of the video again.

But if you just want to learn the motions, you could just load the video in your typical video editor, mark your in and out (for your desired part of the video you want gone), then remove that part either by grabbing it or deleting it.

After that, all you got to do is save the video. This would make the video re-encode I believe, but every software isn't the same. Some might just compile it right back while others may re-encode.

    Wishing you guys the best.

    STEP 1:
Download ffmpeg, ffplay and ffprobe (you can easily find online)

    STEP 2:
Create a .bat file in the directory of ffmpeg with this code. Run it and it automatically trim your files of the time you set at the initial and and the end.
This cut the last 5 minutes at the end and 0 minutes at the beginning.
Set the value as you want
It creates a folder called 'Trimmed' where the files are in.

    Echo Off
    SetLocal
    Set "ext=mp4"
    Set "opts=-v quiet"
    Set "opts=%opts% -print_format "compact=print_section=0:nokey=1:escape=csv""
    Set "opts=%opts% -show_entries "format=duration""
If Exist *.%ext% (If Not Exist "Trimmed\" MD Trimmed)
For %%a In (*.%ext%) Do Call :Sub "%%~a"
    Exit/B

    :Sub
    For /f "Tokens=1* Delims=." %%a In (
    'FFProbe %opts% %1') Do (Set/A "ws=%%a-05.00" & Set "ps=%%b")
rem If %ws% Lss 20 GoTo :EOF
    Set/A hh=ws/(60*60), lo=ws%%(60*60), mm=lo/60, ss=lo%%60
    If %hh% Lss 10 Set hh=0%hh%
    If %mm% Lss 10 Set mm=0%mm%
    If %ss% Lss 10 Set ss=0%ss%
    FFMpeg -i %1 -ss 00:00:00.0000 -to %hh%:%mm%:%ss%.%ps:~,3% -c:v copy -c:a copy "Trimmed\%~1

I am pretty sure it is against youtube TOS to edit someone elses video.

But if you have the downloaded video then any basic video editing software will do

A bar of iron cost $5. Made into horseshoes, it's worth $12. Made into needles, it's worth $3500. Made into balance springs for watches, it's worth $300,000. Your value is determined by what you are able to make of yourself
