What's the biggest obstacle you overcame when you started Internet Marketing?

The title is self explanatory.

Before achieving success, or at least start selling, what was your BIGGEST OBSTACLE?

Mine was dabbing: I shifted system to system before knowing that Email Marketing is far the best ASSET.

So I started an opt in page, built a list, got in deep with tools, etc, in weight loss niche as the first one.

And then someone asked me to teach him how to, so I started in IM niche as a tutor, constantly sharing strategies and ideas I first tried by myself.

AND YOU?

What was the first and BIGGEST obstacle in this Industry you had to face?

That so much of it is out of your control.

i.e. If my web host has issues, so do I.

I still stress over those things.

  • At first my biggest obstacle was developing patience.

Regardless of which systems you are using to generate income online, you will want to develop the patience to implement it to the point of making your first sales.

Then and only then do you try other methods

I have been an internet marketer for over ten years now.

Like you said above learning that an email list is an internet marketers #1 asset.

My first priority is always building my list, and everything else is secondary.

This includes your blogs or websites. Have opt-in forms, and a high quality lightbox strategically placed throughout your blogs.

Learn, learn some more, and then learn some more after that.

The tech side of things was my problem.

I finally realized I had to do what I was good at -- writing the words -- and hire qualified people for the other stuff.

I am not going to blame...like who to trust ect.

My results always came down to me and what I was willing to do for myself.

My biggest obstacle was to keep moving forward even when it seemed like I wasn't getting no where.

Well, my biggest obstacle was the guest posting. I was so muxh afraid of it because my other fellow seo always told me that its complex, hard to find relevant person & pricing for linking is tough. But one day I decided to do it no matter what happens and today I found it most easy & fruitful technique.

to stop diking around on twitter, fb, and youtube, those are day hourly killers there.

And get to work on your business. Social media can catch you out, you sit there and 2 hours can go by and all you have done is finger scrolled 300 posts. That is not a productive day in my eyes.

I suppose this is as good a place as any on this forum to post this.
When we attempt anything new, we all pretty much suck at it. That is just the way it is. If we do it over and over we start getting comfortable, we start getting better at it. If we work hard enough and long enough at it, we can become masters of it. Doesnt matter what it is.
If you want to become a heart surgeon, you'll have to practice at it before you get good at it. (I feel sorry for the first 100 patients)
That of course doesn't mean everyone sucks at everything. There are 'naturals' in any endeavor.

It takes doing something for about 20 hours to get pretty good at it and around 10,000 hours to become a master, give or take.

When you have someone teaching you the skills that they already learned, it is a lot easier. They have already done it and know the tricks and the pit falls to avoid.

Have you ever bought a course or get some advice then did nothing with it? I sure have. Thats because right out of the gate, it seems hard.

Anything new is hard at first, and online marketing doesnt fall short of this mark. We are going to suck at it, that is what we are suppose to do!

Ok here is a list of the top 5 things we must do to overcome the Sucking part.

#1 Follow somebody with a good track record of getting results.
All too often people get in this online marketing thing and try to figure it out on their own, they get confused, overwhelmed, frustrated and you know what comes next? If you guessed 'quit' you hit the nail on the head. Don't think you can do this on your own with no guidance.

#2 Avoid S.O.S. Most marketers are willing to try anything to get that 'EDGE'. We call this the Shiny Object Syndrome
They purchase countless traffic, technique, strategies, courses, programs, softwares, and systems that end up sitting on their hard drives never to be used because once opened, they don't deliver what was promised.

Instead I implore you to remain focused on 1 thing until you master it. Whether it be a traffic source, a tool, a technique, or what ever it is that you decide to pursue. Dedicate time to perfecting it, typically 2 weeks.
You won't become a 'MASTER' in 2 weeks but you will definetly have a good handle on that particular item.

#3 Use the proper tools for your trade.
I know this is something that most people don't want to hear, but if you dont have the proper tools, you will certainly fail.
I owned a remodeling company for many years. Do you think I could have rebuilt someones kitchen or bathroom if I didn't have the right tools for the job? As a matter of fact my work van had 16 different kind of saws, each one doing a particular type of cutting. I also has 9 different types of drills, and countless other tools too numerous to mention.
A person performing yard work cant really cut the grass without a mower.
A farmer cant plant the fiields without a plow, you get the point.

I'm not saying you need 16 different kinds of software, or tools, but there are a few that are necessary if you want to reach your income goals.
There are really only a few that you need for your online endeavors.
A way to capture a persons information (Capture page builder) a way to reach to your subscribers (Autoresponder) a link tracking software of some sort, your own domain name, and a SYSTEM. Thats about it. No bank breaking stuff here just some necessary tools of the trade. A central hub to send your subscribers isn't necessary but definetly plays in your favor,. More on that in another message.

#4 I mentioned this in Tools, but it's extremely important to have a System that works. An awful lot of people come online in hopes of becoming wealthy beyond their wildest dreams and give up soon after their first campaign has ended. Why? Because systems work and people fail. Having a system that does all the heavy lifting for you such as having sales funnels in place, other people doing the 'selling' and so on, simplifies the entire process, making it easier for you to succeed. We call this 'Leverage'. When you leverage what already works, combined with the proper tools and guidance, it's a win situation for you.

    This brings us to:
#5- which is a big one. Invest in yourself.
This will give you the best return that you can imagine. Whether it's investing in a coach, learning a new skill, or simply some self development, you need to develop your own skills first before will find value in what you have to offer.Take the time to hone your own skills so you can share your new found gift with others.

Investing in yourself sends a powerful message. When you are willing to say yes and invest in yourself, you will be astonished at how much more the universe will reward you.

A lot of people simply take life as it comes, only learning things as they cross their paths and develop into whatever life makes them.

Each of us carries with him the ability to be something bigger.

Ok so these are 5 of the top things needed to become a master marketer.
If you begin to develop and master just one of these at a time, before you know it you'll be much better off than your competitors.

    1. I took me too long before I actually started.
    2. This because I had doubts, can I do it, am I sure.

This was all in 1998, so now after almost 20 years of making money online, I can say this. If you never start, you will keep having doubts. I'm a big believer of starting, failing, getting up again and learning from your mistakes.

Trivializing any success I experienced as being not good enough. Instead I should've learned to build upon each success no matter how trivial I thought it to be.

sometimes you are your BIGGEST enemy, that was my case.

But once you get your head right, and watch the movie "the secret" 200 times or so, you slowly work out no one is in charge of YOU, but YOU!!

So no matter if your broke, or rich, if you head aint right, nothing will change in your business.

I posted in reply to this thread about two days ago and I notice my post is now absent. It might have been removed and I can guest why. I might have technically gone overboard.

If it was removed could someone kninly conferm that it was, and also the reason?

    Thank you.
