Getting Into Internet Marketing

Hey Warriors,

I've been lurking about this wonderful and informative community for quite a while now, taking in as much of the valuable information that I possibly can as I'm getting into Internet Marketing and I've been trying to decide what path I'd like to take. From my understanding, there's turnkey websites, marketing your own product, marketing other people's products (affiliate programs), and building traffic and a client base by article marketing, social networking avenues, building a list, etc.

I'm new to IM'ing, but I'm not new to blogging, social networking, and website management/design, so I should be able to get a decent website up and running with a good stream of quality content on a niche that I know enough about to write said content. Something that I'm really interested in to dip my feet in the Internet Marketing waters is affiliate programs, and I was wondering whether I should just pick a good niche and focus on promoting and selling that product by the avenues above.

One niche I'm interested in actually is the currency trading (Forex) niche, as I actually know a good amount about it and I could write a good amount of content about it. So, I was wondering, should I just start out by writing articles promoting their product with their website? Should I use "article spinners"? Would I need a website to promote products with EzineArticles as, from what I know, they don't allow affiliate links anywhere near their articles?

Thanks for any replies to this post, and I guess that I'm just trying to get all of the advice that I can at this point. Whatever the case, I better take action ASAP.

There are several techniques about it. Some use a new cheap domain and redirect it to affiliate sites using the traffic coming from the author resource box on the article directories. Some use review sites or they review a product and recommend to their users. Some even tried to create a new site with lots of bonuses and put their affiliate links then told their users to send a message or transaction ID when they bought from their link. Some even tried to create multiple websites and use article spinners to create several copies of their articles and post it to different web 2.0 sites for more backlinks and potential traffic. Make your own plan and focus on it.

@Alexa Yeah, those are good points. The Forex niche is filled with scams and products that simply don't work, and, knowing about and trading currencies I just can't sell such crap, to put it bluntly.

It seems like the tricky part at this point is choosing a good niche that's right for me.

Sorry to double post, but I have yet another question: Is it possible to get into a niche that you don't know all too much about? What's the best way to go about doing this? My problem is, the niches that I'm skilled at are often all too competitive.

    Paul,

Sure you can get into a niche that you don't currently know much about, provided you take the time to get to know it before you enter it.

But actually going into a niche that you don't know much about, would just be a waste of your time.

In other words, the answer your question, "what's the best way of doing this [getting into a niche you don't know much about]" is this: start to learn about it!

That definitely makes sense, thanks for the advice!

I think I've hunted down a decent niche through Google's keyword tool--it's the "fitball" niche, so I'm just going to see whether I'd like to sell fitball chairs, exercise techniques, or if I'd like to give something away for free (likely techniques) in order to build a list.
