Recommend a website designer/programmer

I'm looking to undergo a relatively "large" project and I need something more than a bare bones HTML/CSS type designer. It'll be design and programming intensive (PHP, etc.) website and I need to find good firms to use. I'm not interested in going through elance or anything and I contacted a few firms but they went under and out of business. Anyone have any suggestions?
