Hello warriors, I created a sales funnel for my primary product, which is an ebook.

I want to give something for free in exchange for a customers email, I just don't know what.

    • Cheat sheet a.k.a Hot Sheet getting more and more popular in the last year
  • The best thing to give away is of course related to your "niche", so around the topic of your eBook,
without being in competition with your own eBook ;-)

    It can be :
    * Small report with hints / ideas
    * Small reports via email ( your send every x days an email with info ) : I recommend this, so you make "your" list :-) I use https://www.benchmarkemail.com => free plan ( forever )
    * Giveaway related eBook
    * ...
  • Whatever you decide upon, I think it's best if it adds value and relates specifically to your paid product (the ebook).

I would also suggest creating your own freebie if you can. When you're trying to build an audience (which you should be doing), it helps to share your knowledge, skill, expertise and authority with them so they can experience your ability to lead your viewers in sensible ways and with valuable recommendations.

By creating your own freebie, you will have the opportunity to make it 100% compatible with your product (the ebook) and you can even use it as a "light pre-sell" for what your are offering.

Keep the freebie brief, very focused, full of value, and in your own voice. (And by the way, your market research will tell you exactly what your audience wants to receive from you.)

    Good luck to you,

    Steve

    • I agree. I'm focusing on delivering legitimate value before making my move.

  • Why free? It is, of course, the de facto IM go to list builder. But, there is a strong case to be made for paid vs. free too. One that says, freebie seekers may or MAY NOT become paying customers. You could build a list of thousands who never buy (how many Warriors are there?).

Consider a buck or two for your lead generator. It has been a tested and proven way for several Warriors, who very recently have had great success with their "dime sales" (a form of low cost customer acquisition) or their simple one page cheatsheets or HOTSHEETS.

Getting 3 bux for a one page pdf might give you a better customer than getting 10 people for FREE.

    So, why do free?

    • Gordon,

As you say, free "is the defacto go to list builder." Why? Because from my own experience and most tests by others that I have reviewed, "free" generally is better received than "paid" as a method of growing a list. It's important to get subscribers on a list so you can contact them via follow-up emails. Then, once they are on your list, you can apply your "3 bux for a one page pdf" strategy to create a separate buyers list.

I think some people (in fact, many people) need to be exposed to your marketing with multiple contact points before they are confident enough to pull out their credit card. If you offer a paid product on initial contact, IMO, you will not get many of this group on your list.

Hence, the age-old dilemma, is it worth nurturing "freebie" enticed subscribers? Will any of them ever become buyers? My experience is ... yes, it is worth it and yes, some will become buyers. But you'll probably not find these folks is they don't subscribe to your marketing first.

      Just my own opinion,

      Steve

  • PLR & MMR eBooks about money making online.
  • Thanks everyone for replying. I think I'm going to give a free, but immensely insightful article about the topic, and an ebook that vaguely covers the topic that prompts them to purchase my primary product.
  • Free with paid shipping can be a successful strategy in some instances, usually for the hard copy of a book, USB or DVD. I've seen a lot of skeptics (myself included) for this method, but it can work as the entryway in to a high ticket funnel.

    • Wow I was thinking something similar. I've heard some pros making stupid money utilizing this technique.
  • It could be:

    - Another related ebook(s) - condensed
    - Articles
    - An MP3
    - A video

    - All 4 above.

Give first and prove your worth.
  • Hey John,

    Here's a few ideas:

    1. You can collect a few PLR products and combine them into your own unique lead magnet.

    2. Create a free training video that gives people value.

    3. Create your own cheat sheet by hiring people on Fiverr to design something for you.

The only limit to what you can offer people in exchange for their email is yourself.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • It, of course, depends on the market and the traffic source, but when it comes to MMO and especially WF traffic, I'm all done giving freebies to alleged "opportunity seekers" who do nothing but copy my content, steal my images, try to hack my sites, and tax my time.

I've tested things 16 ways from Sunday - Offers, funnel set-up, follow-ups, colors, opt-in/no opt-in, etc., etc. etc., and the only way you get any action takers is to charge something.

If you don't have a Paypal account and at least $1 and are willing and able to spend it on something worth 50 times as much, I don't want anything to do with you. Get your freebies from the multitude of people who spout the "I just care sooo much!" nonsense.

    • Well said brent....

      To add to that

Just depends who your tryna attract..."freebie seekers" or "actual spenders"

      Free offers CAN work

But You can waste time and effort puffing up the numbers with freebie seekers who are gonna "run a mile" when you make an offer anyway

Or you can make a strong case for why they should spend a small fee to obtain what you have and build a list of "serious people"

Your cost is spent driving traffic, so you owe it to yourself to make sure you attract the most profitable crowd

(The large majority never read them pdfs anyway...but it should still give value and sell them on the idea of something)

Whether they buy it or not will depend on 2 things

      1) the ad that sends them to the offer
      2) the case you make for the offer on the page

But this is where you "get your hands dirty"

Put some time, effort and most importantly money to find out

Because the answer to that wont be found in these threads

      All the best

  • I think this is a mistake, whether you offer it free or as a tripwire offer. People will judge you based on the quality of what you give them. Better to just give them the "immensely insightful article" and skip the vague ebook.

If you do want to use an ebook as the next step in the funnel, carve off a piece of your primary product that users can use to get a quick win. With that quick success under their belt, they're much more likely to believe you have something special to offer in your primary product.

Either that, or use the article and a full-on sales pitch. An "ebook that vaguely covers the topic and prompts them to purchase the primary product" will likely ending up like a half-assed sales pitch that accomplishes nothing.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • You can easily find it: just pick a part of your product, convert it in a short report and use it as a freebie!

Try to give valuable information but let the reader understand that you have the complete and best part in your product.
  • I give out free ebook, but you must have it setup like mine to work right,
    Thanks Rob.
  • a pdf first.

if not, videos really work wonders these days. Try that, but do not make it too long.

  • In addition to above:
    • Some discount
    • Extra features / service: Premium service
    • Discount on next order
    • Coupon code to avail discount on first order

    Hope that helps.

  • Try to give something related to your product, which is interesting as well as it shares some details about your product. So, it will serve you in two ways
    1) You will generate leads.
    2) Your targeted audience will have a better idea about your product.

I'll give you my email for $5.
  • I'll give you ten
  • Cheat Cheets work great but I find that in a close second are training videos.

for example for my funnel, i dont even try to make the sale until they get to my 4th free training video. Conversions skyrocket because I gave them value, earned their trust and pre-framed them on my course....so my sales page for this group is seriously like a 2 minute video.

For my cheat sheet funnel, my sales page is like a 20 minute video because they are cold traffic who have no trust in me yet.

    Good Luck!
  • The first part of the ebook.

Ideally, it should conclude in itself but still leave the audience wanting more with the clear indication that there is more.

    • Yup, this is what I'd recommend too.
  • Just give them a mini eBook that leads to your real deal.

I personally don't give away any free stuff in exchange for someone's Email address.

You can attract more freebie seekers who love to give away their (non active email address) instead of their main email address.

I usually give people some form of value 'before' they opt in so I can send them straight way to a sales page.

I like to be straight up front with people instead of trying to seduce them on the backend.

    • What a lot of people lose track of is why they are building a list.

The whole idea is to enable ongoing communication with the people likely to buy your product, not to see whose is biggest. "List size" is one of those vanity metrics that make marketers' egos swell much more than their bank accounts.

While I'm not disagreeing with your approach, especially in the biz-opp field, a good freebie is a sorting mechanism. It should give those people who should be on your list that last little push needed to give up their email. It should also send the people who should not be on the list on their way, happy for not wasting their time collecting something of no interest to them.

Easy example, people who will watch anything as a video, but won't read anything. Offering a PDF without the video pretty much filters those people out and attracts the readers. Or you could switch those around to the same effect - if your offer is in video format only, people who don't like video are filtered out.

If people structured their lead generation efforts towards getting the right people in and the wrong people out instead of getting into meaningless 'list measuring' contests, they'd do far better.
  • Whatever you want! Give out what other people charge for, this is called moving the free line. The more value you give out for free, the faster you will grow an audience. Make sure you've got some stuff left to sell though!
  • If you build a list from people who are seeking for free stuff it will be hard to get buyers from this list.

Try to sell something for a cheap price as a start and do make upsell for your product.

And to get visitors to your sales page, you can :-

Make a review short video and upload it to youtube then add a link in the video description.

Create a slide image on slideshare.net [free to join] and explain what is inside your book.

Post on facebook groups and pages that related to your topic, you don,t have to use your content from the book, you can post useful information about same topic or explain why people have to buy your product.

If you can write an article about your product niche go and get free account from Ezinarticles and submit your new article.

Good luck with your new product
  • go to Fiverr and get some plr use it for the giveaways some actually include full funnels with reports ebooks stuff like that I bought a file of 7,000 the other day.

  • You can take a chapter in your ebook or a part of your ebook that solve a specific problem to give for free.
  • You may give the first chapter(s). You may make a short video series that covers some parts of the book. You could also make a video of you describing a mindmap of the steps of the method.
