How Often to Search Engine Rankings Change.

I'm a little confused, as some days my site comes up when I do a keyword search and some days nothing comes up. I don't know if my site has been dropped or just not appearing at that time. Google and Bing seem to be all over the place for me.

Can anyone explain? Thanks

They change constantly as new data is factored in continuously.
>500 algorithm tweaks are made per yr
Also, Google have a lot of data centers and you could be pulling results from different data centers and the new data may not necessarily be refreshed on all data centers at the same instant.

They are not always working on your website, they will be working on other websites too. So that is why you wont find improvement happening always on your website.
