It's not a problem for most email clients now, but I don't use images in mine because there's still a chance of hitting the junk folder with older clients or ones that refuse HTML.

I've tested with Aweber and ActiveCampaign, both perform better with minimal links and avoiding certain words like; cash, money, profit, income etc.

    I don't see it as a problem.

I mean the subscribers receiving the email will most probably have some level of image blocking, won't they?

If they white list the senders email address they will not have this problem!

Yes but isn't it very difficult to have them whitelist you?
On some email services it takes 5 clicks + entering manually the address.
Anyway I guess I better ask this to my mailing list service provider

  • If you add image in the email most of the time it won't fall in to the Primary Inbox, it will go to the Promotions folder.
If there are multiple images and links then there is a change to fall in to junk folder
Aweber and Getreponse doing good in this area.

Yes that's the problem I imagined.
Then is it a better strategy to send a text email (as enticing as possible lol) with a link to the actual newsletter?

        Here's an easy fix.

Near the top of your newsletter, add the following line:

"If you are having trouble viewing this email, click here to read online." [Click here links to the online version.]

The main reason people used image blocking in the first place was because they had slow connections. A simple image could take several minutes to download. Couple that with metered access, and blocking images was a huge time and money saver.

The secondary reason for image blocking was security. It's possible to download malware rather than the promised image, although this is much more rare than it was in the old days.

Nowadays, it won't be a big issue. Just add the suggested line for the people for whom it is an issue. And don't forget to add alt text to the image so people can tell what they are supposed to be seeing.

As for whitelisting, unless your audience is savvy enough to know what that means, I'd keep it very simple. In your welcome email, simply ask them to add your sending address to their contacts or drag the email to the primary tab and drop it there.

I would think the easy solution is to avoid using images?
