Let's get real, folks

Making money online is possible.

But a LOT of newbies are expecting to make money online within days or even hours of getting set up.

Guys. Let's get real.

Those who have actually made money online know from experience: success is rarely instant.

Don't expect to be making $100/day in your first month. Could it happen? Sure. Is it likely to happen? No.

I think this is why a large number of people who jump in to the industry fail. They give up when they don't see results overnight.

You HAVE to be willing to work hard and learn. If you aren't willing to put in the effort and study, you're in the wrong business.

you really need to give it time most people jump in thinking its a get reach quick scheme but its not. but if you have money to spend you can get the idea easily by approaching someone already successful. even though they charge a high price, you will learn what they do within a month or less

But how do you decide who to "follow". I'm a newbie, and all I have been doing the past two months, and plan to do until the end of the year, is just reading everything I can, watching every free video on YouTube. I feel like there is A LOT of people just trying to sale me shit. How do you sift through all thought? I have a few I feel like are true and would work for me, but It feels like it is a lot of trial and error in the beginning and I want to avoid as much of that as possible.

One way is to stop reading everything you can and watching every free video on Youtube.

There are a lot of people just trying to sell you stuff. Trust your gut and stop reading/watching their stuff.

When you find someone that you resonate with, read/watch more of their stuff.

There is a lot of trial and error, and you may get your nose bloodied a few times before you get the hang of it.

You can avoid a bunch of it by recognizing the FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and not trying to absorb everything. Find a few people you feel good about, and follow them. Now, some of them may later prove to be not worth following. If so, quit following them and find someone new.

Expect that eventually, you will build up a handful of people who you lean on, a couple of dozen who have their moments, and a whole bunch of people you wouldn't touch with someone else's ten foot pole.

Good luck to you. Come on back when you have more specific questions.

"Who do you listen to"?" is one of the fundamental principles. Ultimately you listen to yourself, your gut. But on the way you will have mentors (whether they know it or not.)

When you first walk into a forum like this, every post seems of the same value.

Take your time. Involve yourself. Keep watching and listening.

After awhile, you'll notice some people consistently giving advice that resonates with you. You'll start looking at their post just because they posted--it won't matter what the topic may be.

Ask yourself: Why am I listening to this person? Are there subconscious cues (British accents make the speaker seem smart to American ears; a guy in a suit who speaks smoothly is generally more credible than someone in a t-shirt who stumbles a bit)? Are these things fooling you into following somebody you shouldn't? Or ignoring someone you really ought to be listening to? Or are you recognizing that this person has legitimate knowledge and experience you want to learn from?

Too much information can be overwhelming.

I also took note of the fact that you are vulnerable at the moment so you will get marketers trying to sell you a dream .

What tactics are you currently using to market ?

Totally agree with this, as I was the same way--I thought I was going to make boatloads of money right away--man was I wrong on that one!

Best thing you can do, is to find a plan you are comfortable with and just stick with it.

For example, if you do not like writing, setting up a blog would not be a good idea, make videos instead.

I think the big problem stems from newbies believing that some magic tool is what makes the money. Some software, a special funnel, the way a button is positioned on a website and what color it is.

But the truth is you need to understand two things to be successful as a marketer:

    1. Traffic

    and

    2. Conversion.

My expertise is in Conversion. I know the help I need is on the Traffic side, and I've learned enough about it over the years to be able to say "This is what I need. The traffic needs to look like this, have these features, come in this quantity."

Newbies banking on some magic bullet don't even know what they need to be focusing on. The bullet is not going to do all the work for you.

Internet marketing, just like direct mail marketing or newspaper ad marketing, is a complex thing and requires a complex solution. You are not going to get one thing, a magic bullet, and Presto! All your problems are solved.

It's a skill set and like any profession you have to learn that skill set. Maybe not every detail about every part of it, but you do need to know how all the moving parts work together.

If you don't have Traffic, the best Conversion tool (sales letter, VSL, live call) in the world won't work for you.

If you don't have Conversion in place, all the Traffic you can muster won't make a difference. Nobody will buy.

Most offers give you just a piece of the puzzle...a part of Traffic or Conversion.

So when you see something, and perhaps the marketing makes you want that thing, ask yourself: "Is this part of Traffic...or is it part of Conversion?"

Only buy something when you KNOW it will help you in a specific place in Traffic or Conversion that you have identified as a gap.

Do not buy things willy-nilly, trying to assemble a bunch of magic bullets together. All you'll get is a pile of junk that you won't know how to do anything with anyway.

Start looking through this forum and looking for signs of Traffic and Conversion. Pick up knowledge where you can. You'll learn to ask better questions--a specific question about either topic (on any platform, not just here) tells me you've put some effort in to trying to solve the issue yourself. And when I see that, it makes me want to help you.

    Think "Shark Tank":

The Sharks don't partner with people who have a vague idea and haven't figured their business out yet. Those who the Sharks partner with have Traffic and Conversion understood to a certain level...start watching the show with this filter on and you'll begin seeing it. People who have a distribution channel. People who understand their pricing strategy and cost structure. People who have SALES (another word for Conversion.)

Lack of understanding about these two elements is what keeps newbies from making $100 in their first month.

    $100 isn't much. 10 X $10, 5 X $20...all you need are our friends T+C.

But if you don't even know that's what you should be looking for and building to, you're beaten before you start.

Well, they believe this because someone is always trying to convince that it's true. The things that I hear people swear by that they claim have transformed their online business - are beyond laughable.

Actually it's a temptation that seems to be built into human beings.

Even experienced business owners want a simple one step solution to their complex problem. Even I want that. But I know the reality is you need a complex solution to a complex problem...and that means learning multiple things.

Agreed. Whether we want to admit it or not, most people would like to be riding a hammock in Tahiti, while that ever elusive, 'passive income' is overloading their PayPal account.

You intelligence, pragmatism, business-knowledge and common-sense have long been on display, here. Too bad that so few put any value on what you have to offer in that regard. It must get frustrating. As they say, "You can lead a horse to water . . . . . . ."

Stay away from the touchy-feely Tony Robbins type of crap.

Positive thinking is not what will make you money, proper methods & technique will.

I think they used to call this the "shiny object" syndrome. Anyhow, don't get caught in that trap. The simple truth is - you'll work harder at this than any other job you've ever had. At first, results will be slow to come and there's a chance you will not see any results at all.

And you know what? There's also the chance you're just not cut out for this IM thing. If that's the case you shouldn't feel bad because there's millions of others just like you.

Not trying to be negative or discouraging, just keepin' it real.

ANY ONE can make money in 24hrs online and be profitable. But you need seed money for it and I am not talking about $50 or $500, I am talking $2,500 min.

If you don't have the $2,500 find a way, start slow and make $0.001 a day until you make it doesn't cut it. You gotta get your butt off the computer and get the hard cash!!!

That's the thing, many won't make it because people have no will of power, they all want the shiny thing, but none have the guts to go get it.

The most disruptive attitude that make 99% of the people over there failing is: DABBING here and there and dont have a PLAN or a SYSTEM.

They always jump in the new uptrend system, which is obviously something old remixed, and don't fix to what has proven to work for ages: Email Marketing.

And, also when they realize that they have to learn it, build a List of interested people, nurture them and then market that list, they don't go in depp in every phases, falls in spamming and so on.

What they lack is always a SYSTEM and the CONSISTENCY to STICK TO THE PLAN.

but It feels like it is a lot of trial and error in the beginning and I want to avoid as much of that as possible.
    Everyone does.

Do you know how to ride a bicycle? Most people do.

You can read and watch all the videos on how to ride a bicycle you can find. You are still going to fall down some at first. The only way you learn to ride is to get on it and start falling down. If you stick with it long enough it will eventually become second-nature.

The problem most newbies have when they get on the Internet marketing "bike" for the first time is they have no destination goal. They ride around in circles and run into walls. Most give up the first time they fall down.

Pick a niche to promote and develop a plan for promoting it. I won't go very far into niche research but I always start with a source of traffic I know I can tap into. Then I look for products or services I can promote to that traffic.

You may need a lot of trial and error before you test your way into a way to monetize that traffic. You may never find a way. I've spent a small fortune on ads and products that never produced a single penny of ROI. But if you are committed and diligent the "winning" campaigns more than make up for all the losers.

Also, it's not so much who you listen to as who you don't listen to, especially on forums like this one. The majority of posters don't have a clue what they are talking about which is evidenced in their posts. You have to learn to sort the truth from the overabundance of bullshit which is thrown around.

The reality is; very few people (compared to the number who 'try') actually earn a living from IM. It ain't for everyone.

While I think it's important to be (relatively) "realistic" ... It's also good for People to dream big: Have great ambitions and goals.

It's been said that being realistic is the most travelled road to mediocrity. So there should be a "balance." Sometimes it's better to dream/aim high and fall short of your goal than it is to be "realistic" and reach it.

    Just a couple of thoughts.

    They say
" Find a Job that you LOVE and you will never need to work again"
I think it is necessary to be pationate about what we do.
If you add motivation to that it will be easy to find the patience .

i was broke many years ago, and what I did was

come to forum here, READ, and then work ass off and implemente.

then read more and IMPLEMENT, do not spend your whole day reading, and think CHIT great idea i will do it tomorrow. GET TO WORK.....

I did this, and amazed to see I went from $0 a day, to $50 and right now after many years Im averaging $400 days.

Of course I still have to work, but I chose my hours and work when I want.

Thank for sharing this post. I like the way how you added value to the forum covering this topic.

Luckily for the new comers there are mentors like yourself that can teach them the right way to market.

This is my first post and I think this is a great forum. I agree, there is so much info out there.
It's so easy to get tangled in the web. There are three words in IM they are focus, focus, focus.

Along with some of the other useful advice, I'd like to add that you should hang out on this forum as much as you can, at least in the beginning of your marketing career.

There's a variety of different perspectives here - from newbie to expert and you can learn a great deal. Sure, you will have to separate the wheat from the chaff occasionally, but you're going to need to that in the real world. And that can cost you.

Save some money and spend time going through these posts. Patience is a virtue, particularly if you wish to learn. The Warrior Forum is much better than your average Facebook group, IMHO, and it continues to be a go-to resource 20 years after it was first created.

Direct to the point. I like this post. New people get discouraged when they don't get the results they want right away. That's ok. It's survival of the fittest...endure, don't quit.

Imma tell you a real true life Hollywood story.

One day i told my sister that i was going to make money real fast on ebay. She told me "shut up and get a job". She sat there and watched me upload the listing.

2 hours later the item sold. She couldn't believe it. But i couldn't believe it when......

Exactly. I thought i was going to get rich, and while the product continued to slowly get sales over the next few months... i abandoned the project cause i wasn't making at least $20/day on ebay with the product. Plus... i didnt have any backend products. I just massively bombarded the ebay listings with this one product hoping to strike it rich instantly.

It took me two years before I was making "job replacing" income.

It makes me laugh when I see some of these sales pages that promise you $100 a day by the next day.

But, at the same time, the customer is not without fault, either.

As long as people keep buying those products, people will keep selling them.

People need to wake up to reality.

The only way you are going to go from making nothing to $100 by tomorrow is if you get a job.
