How to advertise a small buisness online? Which are the most effective marketing channels?

I wanted to create a poll, but I cannot see such functionality.

Which marketing channels gain the most clients to your business? Could you share with us how to promote effectively?

My suggested options are:

SEO
FB ads
Google Adwords (in SERP or remarketing?)
FB groups
topical forums
own e-mail list
blog
banners
referrals
others

For me, the most effective was first participating in FB groups but since it took preety long time I decided to find something else - a blog and organic traffic AND referrals.

What are you trying to promote?

The most effective marketing channels will be the ones where you can easily and effectively put your message in front of your ideal customers.

For example, if you are promoting knitting patterns for tea cozies, look for channels where you can reach tea-drinking knitters. Or knitters looking to sell tea cozies on a site like Etsy.

If you're promoting a hair salon, look for channels where you can reach locals.

In racing terms, look at your horse and pick the course where it is most likely to win.

Don't forget YouTube. Better than Facebook in the minds of many. The difference being is that when you see an ad on Facebook you are usually involved with something else. It can be an interruption and a mild annoyance for some.

With YouTube people are actually looking for information related to your video or your video ad. Additionally, if you have a blog you can add your videos there as well.

Of course, you'll need to create the videos or outsource the work. And YouTube has some stringent advertising requirements you'll need to deal with. The good news is that it's generally less expensive than Adwords and there are some additional targeting options that you might find useful.

    Michal,

As John says, every niche will have it's own best marketing channels and they will vary depending upon where the niche participants go online and how they can best be contacted.

The important thing is to reach your market audience in the most efficient way you can. As long as you do that . . . what anyone else is doing in their business is irrelevant.

Youtube channels bring more clients to your business. Because a large number of people's are using youtube on daily basis instead of social media sites. I also promote my own business through youtube channels. It also increases clients to my business day by day.

Facebook is good and Bing too

Firstly you have to create an email list, and then create a lookalike audience Facebook with the email list growing, conversion I mean.

    Hi MichalK,

I have an e-commerce website. We focus on SEO as it is getting popular. We used to advert lots on Facebook, FB groups is good as well as you don't have to pay anything.

So to me, the best channel as it's follows:

    1. SEO
    2. FB groups (obviously related)
    3. FB advert
    4. Blog

    Thanks

  • Find other leading authorities in your niche who already have a sizeable following of paying clients that you can market to, and pay them to send email marketing sequences which links to your lead capture pages, blog or sales pages. Rinse and repeat this process as you increase your profits and grow your own list

It depends on what structures you have in place to convert people at different stages of their customer journey.

You will get different results using different mediums and methods at each stage of the customer cycle.

The key is not so much what is the best method but what is the best structure you can build to leverage different methods to attract customers to the business.

You would always start by targeting the warmest prospects first much like PPC where someone is searching for the product or service you deliver.

Then you work up the funnel targeting broader prospects by creating content you can promote to colder audiences.

At each stage of the customer journey there will be better options for advertising than others.

The best lower cost options include content creation and PR and as the business can start to afford to pay for traffic then there are more options.

It pays to send traffic to the content that matches their intent and then give the prospect a clear pathway to progress towards making a purchase.

    Best regards,

    Ozi

If you look at your blog / website as the center of ALL of your online activity, all of your efforts should start there. Writing a blog for an example... you want to get the targeted SEO boost.... but then you want to share that post in FB Groups.. if you can find a match you want to get into LinkedIn Groups as well. Create an image ( a picture speaks a 1000 words ) and tie your post to an Instagram posting.

Do some research on "sharing" patterns. if you share an article on FB groups on the day you post in the morning, you want to swing back around a week or so later and post again in the afternoon... Times of day dictate "Reach" who you will reach in any given morning is probably not who you will reach any given afternoon. adding the delay between the am and pm posting makes it look new and fresh in the groups timeline.

Because you truly want to focus on the hub of your efforts - your blog / website, you want to get the local Google and Bing listings... if you are brick and mortar you want to ensure you are on google maps. you want to start working on Citations for your local listings.

Every spoke that you add - ( avenue for sharing your site and its material ) the greater your circle of influence becomes. I am not saying go bananas and willy nilly share across the full spectrum of social media.... pick a few to start master the ins and outs.. understand HOW to share effectively on each platform. "Hey I got a new blog post come read it" is not effective. Creating an image to share on Instagram that's effective... dropping a video every so often on FB, that's effective.. Its not only the content its the form of the content and the more you can diversify the form, the more interested you keep your audience.

A mixture of both, offline and online method can work best. If you already own a brick and mortar business then a hybrid technique could work wonders. If fully online then things are different.
I assume you are a local business owner so in this case using your own clients as agents of promotion could work wonders.
Here is a briefing of a plan..
Make your customers share your FB Fans page in exchange for -----fill in the blanks ----- Once they do carry a prize contest and choose a couple winners. Do it monthly and you will see people rushing to your shop every time more and more..
