Loosing my job soon and learning to create a steady flow of income

Hi everybody. I am a new member here and I just learned yesterday that I may loose my job soon.

My concern is that I dont have anything else planned so I would like to have your advice about how to create a steady flow of income. I know, magic doesnt exist but if there is an easier way that could, in a few weeks, begin to provide me with some money, I would be very interested to know.

One of my work colleague told me about eBay droppshipping. Is it a good way? Do you know better ways?

Thanks for your help.

I think that in this case you still should stick with a job, try to find another one, i mean

Make money online does not happen that quick, because if it does, guess that maybe nobody get a job anymore. Should walk with 2 feets. When you can generate enought money from your online business then you can quit your job.

It would take time to learn and apply, practice...

In my opinion, there is nothing can compare with affiliate marketing in the long term.

    But it takes time.

    • I agree Mabu, you should keep a full time job until your part time activity can become your full time job.

However, I disagree with affiliate marketing as a long term, I think you should either start with affiliate marketing or local marketing and then make your own products for the long term.

Successful local businesses are getting savvier every year. And even if they don't know the details of setting up ads, funnels, etc., they can usually smell bullshit a mile away.

By now, the usual targets of the "offline online" crowd (service businesses, mom and pop shops, etc.) are getting approached weekly with pitches ranging from the ever-popular 'first page of Google' to running Facebook ads.

If you actually have the skills, running an affiliate campaign is a good way to have a real case study. Or you can walk in and try to run a double shuffle on them.

It's the "as long as you know what you're doing" part that bites a lot of wannabe consultants in the backside.

If you have no clue how to do something, how do you know if the freelancer you are considering has any more clue that you do?

And I have serious ethical concerns about taking someone else's money to learn how to do something I represented myself as knowing how to do.

I'm not saying you should never farm out anything. I'm saying that you should be farming out tasks you know how to do, but recognize that someone else may be able to do them faster or better than you.

        • I totally understand what you are saying.

          However,

Yes there are ethical practices that must be adopted.

          1. Local businesses only want results

Solution: Offer free 7 day trial, no risk only reward

          2. If you can not do the "detail" of the task outsource it aslong as you know the "strategy and tactics" .

          3. in term of taking their money, you don't need to.

I know from the brief comment I gave above may seem like that, however I only enocurage ethical practice and inform my firends and sudents to ALWAYS state they are learning and will offer service for free until they get results. WIN-WIN.

But thanks for making it clear

Everyone here will tell you that 'their way' is the best way. Where does that leave you? If you have a family to support, go get a job, save some money, educate yourself on the myriad ways that one can supposedly make money online and then determine which of those might be a good fit for you based upon your interest, current skills and where you want to wind up in life, then make a move.

If you don't have a family, you may as well jump in feet-first. At least the only person who's situation you'll be making worse is yours and yours alone.

There is no secret, regardless of anything you may hear.

    Good luck.

I would never in a million yeas advice starting out in internet marketing as a solution to losing your job.

    Downsides,
    95% chance you won't make a penny
If you do it will take time, months, maybe more
You will be worying about making money just to live so you will take all the wrong routes and all the wrong advice
Reducing success to about 1% possibility

    Look for a new job
Get a steady income that will pay your bills
Then if you still want to do IM work it into your schedules with a solid business plan.
    Research and learn the basics
    Pick a strategy
Learn it until you are an expert
    Make money with it.

You are right - magic doesn't exist....and saying "but" doesn't change that fact. There isn't an 'easier way' than doing the work required for the method you choose to use online. Before you do the work you need to learn WHAT to do...internet marketing is not 'instant income' in spite of the MMO (make money online) products that are advertised.

If you have never done anything online - built a site or blog - learned anything about product creation or list building or affiliate marketing - or lead generation or CPA or freelancing.....

I strongly advise you to look for a new job! You CAN make money online but you can't do it on demand when you are new to the process. There is no 'passive income' when you are new no matter how many sellers tell you there is.

Everyone you talk to will give you a different answer - ebay dropshipping, for example. The next person will say 'Aliexpress' and then "become a writer" will be next.

You have to do enough of your OWN research and reading/learning to know what you have the capability to do online. It takes some time - there are few shortcuts.

If you want to learn - check out the 'learn' link in the black toolbar above - check out the various sections of this forum....and start reading and learning.

If you have responsibilities, cowboy up and get a job that will let you meet those responsibilities. You don't have to like it. You just have to pay the bills.

Over my varied career, I've done inbound and outbound telemarketing, unloaded railroad cars by hand and scraped industrial adhesives off the factory floor with a scraper and blowtorch. None of them was fun, but they let me meet my responsibilities while I looked for a better way. Note, I said better, not easier.

Your workmate that told you about ebay dropshipping didn't happen to have an affiliate product to offer you, did they?

Like Kay said, ask a question like this and everybody with an oar in the water will tout what they are doing as the only real answer. And many of them will have sigs to prove it.

I'm not saying that they are doing anything wrong. But it does seem to prove something my late grandfather used to say - give a kid a hammer and everything looks like a nail.

You do not have time to figure out something new.

Start looking for another job. Now.

In the background, in the evenings and weekends, you can play around with a business idea. But for right now, you need stability.

Learning something new takes a long time and lots of trial and error. That means negative emotions. You can't afford more negative emotions right now. Get the stability taken care of, then look around at other revenue sources.

If you haven't figured out how to pull money from the walls and it's the 28th of the month, that is not the time to try to learn how to do it over the next few days. You won't. Even if you have some "magic plan" from a proven expert, you won't. The map is not the territory and you have to cross that swamp yourself.

The dream is great, but dreams take time to bring into reality.

As you can see everyone is saying you should try and get a new job VS pursuing online marketing as a replacement.

This is because it is extremely unlikely no matter what you pursue, that you will generate any money, much less a steady flow of income within 2 weeks.

      businessXplorer,

You are very wise indeed if you do take the excellent advice you are being given about finding a new job right away.

      But . . .

That doesn't mean you are not welcome here or that you need to wait even another day until you begin your search into finding ways to make money online. There is a whole lot of observation, learning, and discovery that you can do right here on the Warrior Forum in your spare time, at night, and during your off-work hours.

In addition, there are many online selling models that you can begin to explore while you are working your full-time job.

A sound strategy would be to build up and scale your part-time online earnings until you are making the same or more than you do in your day job. It is possible because you should be able run your online business in a fraction of the time it takes to do a full-time offline job. If you get to that point, you will be making twice what your day job pays and you will be in a safer position to evaluate whether going full-time online is the right decision for you!

Congratulations on deciding to take the advice of the smart Warriors here that you have decided to listen to! So many newbies come here asking questions . . . but don't listen to the advice they don't want to hear. You are an exception - nice going!

I really appreciate SteveB's positive approach to discussions like these. It's easy to go negative and cry, "Don't Do It!" or "That's a terrible idea!" but Steve's responses are always phrased in a way that the reader has something they can do about it.

Do whatever you need to, but make sure to keep cash flow coming in.

You can do well in IM, but it will take time. It's not likely that you'll make a full time income in your 1st month.

Build your IM business on the side and one day you'll have job replacing income.

Yes, I oftentimes wish that I had the ability to come across differently. Wait - I do have the ability, I just can't seem to muster it, most days. I just can't be Mary Poppins. I know what you're thinking. Isn't there something between the two extremes that you might be able to exhibit. Not really. I'm kinda all or nothing, black or white, good or evil, Democrat or evil. I am completely devoid of any shades of gray.

My avatar say it all. The older I get, the less time I have for niceties. That said, I apologize for being so curt - a very little bit. Still, my intent, generally, is to be helpful, unless someone is asking to be pummeled into submission, at which time I am always happy to oblige them.

Do you really think the world would be a better place if everyone was nice? Sounds great in theory - but I'm not so sure.

    Thank you.

Think that if you want to start an online casino not for joking, but in a sustainable way, you surely need money to invest

That belongs to having a job

As an example, if you want to have a REAL ASSET, you need to build an email list

I mean, Email Marketing is your only asset

But you need money to invest in paid ads

So while you are learning, get a job

Yes I was thinking about that. My brother told me that I have excellent writing skills (in french because this is my first language) and he says that lots of companies are searching for people who can write online content and articles describing their companies, their products ... He says good writers are not everywhere so I should make a try.

The languages in which you specialize can affect your job prospects and potential salary as well .There is a demand for translators of Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese and Korean was expected to remain strong during the 2014-2024 decade. Growth for interpreters and translators overall was expected to be at a very fast rate of 29% over that same period

Why this might be a great idea to start he should do it on the side. He is not working now. The original poster needs time to turn this into reality. Some good information has been posted already in this thread. The OP can take a Seasonal Job with Amazon, Fedex, or UPS if he is in the US. Also the original poster can look at Craigslist, Indeed, or Monster.com to find employment.

Then he can go into freelancing full time. Once he makes enough money to support himself.

When you're under the gun or digging your way out of the hole, it's best if you're working on two things:

          1. Money to live. You understand this one...get another job.

          2. A big, exciting goal...one that you may never complete, but keeps you inspired.

Dan Kennedy's big goal after a divorce knocked the wind and money out of him was to buy Nightingale-Conant. He never did buy the company, but he worked on it in addition to doing the daily struggle activities to get out of the mess he was in. That goal kept him going.

For you, the "figuring out how to make an online business work" can be your #2 goal.

Heh you can do both. I'm going to share with you how you can divide your time effectively.

              You have Pay Time

              and No Pay Time.

Pay Time is when your ideal customers are available.

No Pay Time is when they are not.

Do #1 activities during Pay Time.

Do #2 activities during No Pay Time.

So more than likely you're working during the day for now. You do that from 8 - 5 or whatever.

Then for the majority of the evening you work on finding that job. About two hours of effort a night will be plenty because there are only so many opportunities in your area for you to find and pursue.

Then you have say an hour left, maybe around 8 or 9PM, to work on your #2 goal for awhile.

You need both to keep excited and have a feeling of more than just struggling.

Its just one way out of many. You can learn research and move products from say amazon over to ebay marketing up the price and after fees you keep the differance.

This is better than being an affiliate for a company and only getting 4 to 6 percent commission. With this method in some ads you can make over 100%

Not just writing, but translating content they already have. If you can take an article or even a sales letter and translate it to French without losing the flavor and persuasive ability, you'll find a lot of opportunities. Once you have your foot in the door, you can look to offer original content for additional fees.

Unless you happen to have a friend who is successful in the Internet Marketing Business who can guide you, I think your safer bet is to get a W-2 paying job as you can then count on that money each week (or every other week if you are paid that way).

You can still work in your free time developing an Internet Marketing business.

    Good luck.

Stay away from eBay. Go with your own domain using shopify or woocommerce.
You have very little control over your product pages with eBay and THEY OWN YOUR CUSTOMER LIST. A huge con

I would go with affiliate marketing. Low entry point and you can get started cheap. Maybe give aways ebooks and build your list. Your list is where your big money will be.
There are plenty of free YouTube videos where you can learn anything. Don't fall for expensive courses with pics f some dbag and his Ferarri and 10 houses.

Just keep it simple and don't overthink it. 9 to 5 jobs are for suckers.

Yeah - god forbid you should have millions of people being exposed to your listings on a daily basis. Let me know how building that list works out for you. :-)

I have always wrote loose this way but maybe I am mistaken but on Google Translator it translates correctly.

There's a lot of open resume and job posting sites out there where you can post your skills online and apply for jobs posted by potential employers.

Yes that's what I am looking for now. I am now integrating into my schedule a two hours each day of job searching and one hour on learning and working on an online business.

Sunday, I also started to train each day. I will start slow, about 15 minutes per day, and increase gradually. I really think I need to be in shape so I can have more energy to work on my job search and business project.

I'm going to go a different route because I know that most of these "get a job" replies were not what you wanted to hear.

You asked the question because you wanted to know things you could do that are internet marketing based, that might help you to supplement the income you were earning on your job, right?

    Here's my 2 cents...

First off, hopefully you have some money already saved.

If you have nothing saved, then I will go ahead and join the bandwagon by telling you to focus on getting another job asap.

I also read someone say that if you don't have a family you'd have a better shot of giving IM all you've got for a period of time to see what you can make happen. I agree with that. But ONLY if you don't have other mouths to feed.

Next, I wouldn't focus too much on anything that has to do with paid traffic right off. Not if you don't have a job. Unless you have thousands saved, which I assume you probably do not.

Then I'd find a business opportunity to join. Preferably something that you believe in and can get passionate about.

It has to be something that is quantifiable. By that, it has to be a business/program where you know EXACTLY how much you'll make by referring new members/customers.

If you can afford to join a business that has higher commissions, say $250+ per sale, now you can quantify how many sales you'd need to make each week in order to supplement the income you'd been earning on your job.

Make sure the product has mass appeal. There are plenty of high ticket biz opps out there online, but they typical appeal primarily to other IMers. While the IM marketing is a large niche, most of the internet based biz opps out there are just money games, so they won't have mass appeal.

So lets say now you chose a biz that pays you $200 a pop. If you were making $1000 a week on your job, you know that you must make 5 sales a week.

Now you have to determine your action plan. Are you going to network on social media all day? Purchase a list of leads? Distribute flyers and road signs? The offline market is powerful... sometimes we get so caught up with internet marketing that we forget marketers were earning millions BEFORE there was a such thing as the internet.

The answers are there, you just have to be resourceful... focus on the thing that you like best and utilize YouTube and Google religiously, also forums like this and other IM Forums or niche related forums that cater to what you're trying to learn.

Stay focused on the end goal and don't be distracted by the gazillion different things out there.

And maybe even say a prayer or two...lol.

Hope that helped a little and I wish you the best of luck. Most jobs suck... so I can empathize with you if you're hoping to make it happen online and be fortunate enough to not have to get another one.

    Good Luck.

The dropshipping business model isn't as smooth and simple as it seems. You barely make a profit on the products wholesalers who dropship offer. They'll give you the opportunity to buy a hot new iPhone for $100... but then charge you $40 for first class shipping.

In short, transition into a "marketer" instead of a business owner. Learn how to sell anything, and learn how to spot a great opportunity to test/invest in so that you'll never have to worry about being poor or "losing a job" ever again.

  • Hi buddy, I know the feeling.

After, I would suggest local marketing for 3 reasons

    1. Its has high profit margins
    2. The competition is low
    3. You don't have to be a "expert" to get results.

Local business have no clue about marketing, simple things like setting up an ad, a funnel, a site is very easy.

Even if you don't know how to do it you can outsource it (aslong as you know what your doing)

    Stay away from eBay.
    Horrible "advice."

Many people start their online ventures by selling stuff they no longer want or need on Ebay. It's a good way to "get your feet wet."

Traffic is the big problem most newbies (and not so newbies) struggle with. Ebay has it built in.

Dropshipping on Ebay is another matter altogether. Most "Dropshipping" sites available to the general public do not give you room to make any profit.

You need something at least quasi-exclusive. Exclusive t-shirt designs for example. You can find POD services to fulfill your orders but the designs are yours alone so you can set your prices to actually make a decent profit.

I have a friend who buys items at yard sales and resells on Ebay. She does very well. Some items bring insane profit levels. For example, she recently bought an entire box of items for $0.50 and sold just one of the items for $6.25.

She also drives around on weekends looking for the ever more popular "free take me" items people leave by the road. A couple months ago I helped her haul home probably $1000 worth of perfectly good doors and windows

You can start small and grow it in your spare time with very little investment except for your time.
