It is different for every niche and it depends on the kind of traffic you are getting to your articles.

I would say you shouldn't go for a specific number of articles but you should do it as much as you can for results.

Really depends on the product you are driving traffic to.

The quality of the sales page

The profitability of the niche .

I have wrote one article for some products and sold a lot from it .

I have also wrote a boat load of articles for other products and made very few sales .

Some niches are still out here that have starving crowds that are not being catered to . I think this is the most important factor .

I recommend 5 to 10 articles per day, posting them to relevant article directories.

It depends on a couple of things:
the conversion rate of the product's sales page
the amount of comp. for keywords in your market
the amount of content rich backlinks your comp. has
and if your articles are keyword and content rich

    Hi

Yes, this surely depends on the niche. You will also see good results on any niche if you have catchy titles for your articles. Using "How to","What" and "Which" in your article title makes more visits to your site.

That all depends on many variables such as: Keyword research, topic, quality of article(s), resource box, etc ...

As others have said.. WAYYYY too many variables to give a definitive number. Either way just make sure to keep the articles coming and submit em.

It also depends on if you're targeting the right keywords to some extent...

    One.

    That's all it takes.

If you write a compelling article, targeting the right keyword(s), submit it to the right website and do everything just right, then I guarantee you will see results with a single article.

Yes, there are a ton of variables to consider, but there is no reason you can't see results from one article.

If you get an article published somewhere and it doesn't result in a sale, or at the very least some good, targeted traffic, then you have done something wrong.

    Tweak, resubmit, repeat.

Testing your own writing styles, marketing techniques and keyword selection for your niche is always better than taking someone else's word for it.

Not only is every niche different, but every author is diferent as well. Get out there, tweak, test and repeat until you see what works best for you.

Probably not the answer you were looking for.

    Respectfully,

Every day I check the obituaries. If I don't see my name there, then I know it's going to be a good day!

Is mass article submission needed or just simply submitting your articles to let's say the top 10 directories sufficient enough to see results?

You can achieve sales with only one article if you can achieve 'knowledge dominance', what do I mean mean by 'knowledge dominance'? Your article must be the best article for your key words, you must defeat the opposition with clarity, content and facts.

In fact it will be so good that it will be recommended on social bookmarking site as a repository of authoritative knowledge about the topic. If you do this you will find that the article will attract traffic and sales like magnet. You won't have to worry about mass submission etc.

There is no set formula because there are just too many variables, like everyone is saying.

If you have a product that people buy and a decent landing page, just start submitting at least a few articles daily and you will eventually see sales. Be persistent!

      Hey,

There`s no limit number , you should do as much as you can with maintaining the right keywords & high quality links to attract your targeted visitors and to generate high traffics.

There`s many threads here talking about this issue, you can make benefit from it.

I may share with you some of web founded tips to have a perfect articles marketing:-

      1. Give your article a catchy title.
Your title is the first and often the only thing that visitors see when they skim through a list of articles on an e-zine page. Put some thought into coming up with a title that grabs the reader's attention right away. Words like "Secrets", "Free", and "Successful" tend to attract more attention than others.
      2. Your article should not read like an ad.
Most people read articles to find information they can use, not to see a pitch about your products or services. If they see your article as nothing more than a shameless act of self promotion, they'll get turned off and hit the "Back" button right away. Put yourself in the reader's shoes. What benefits do you want to get out of reading an article? Cater to your reader's interests rather than your own.
      3. Offer lots of free, useful information.
Following on the last tip, keep in mind that your readers are looking for specific "how-to" instructions to help them achieve a certain goal. Offer lots of tangible information that is immediately useful to them. Do not lead them through hoops just to get to an order form for a $29.95 "Make $50,000 in 30 Days or Your Money Back!" e-book.
      4) Avoid gimmicks.
While it may be true that a sucker is born every minute, most internet users are sophisticated enough to tell what's legitimate and what's not. Write with the intention of offering something substantial to the reader. Be honest and forthright. Your article should not cause the reader to think, "What is this guy trying to sell me?"
      5) Be succinct.
Get to the point quickly, preferably in the first or second paragraph. Avoid lengthy paragraphs. Use lots of white space to separate your paragraphs to make them easier to read.
      6) Your article should not be too short.
Certainly, it's possible to write a good article packed with useful information using just a few hundred words. If your article is too short, however, some webmasters may feel hesitant to reprint it on their sites. They may, instead, borrow your ideas and write their own article, gaining authorship without having to give you credit for your ideas.
How long should your article be? I suggest at least 800 words, preferably longer. Longer articles give webmasters the impression that you have put some thought and effort into your work and, thus, are deserving of publicity on their sites.
      7) Use live (clickable) links in your resource box.
Many e-zines permit clickable links in resource boxes. Yet, many authors forgo this privilege by simply spelling out their URLs. Whenever permitted, you should spell out your URL as well as make it clickable (e.g. Free URL Submission, Free Search Engine Submission, Free Web Site Submission, Submit URL). The advantages of a clickable URL are (1) readers can go to your site simply by clicking on it, and (2) more importantly, search engines will be able to record it as a link your web site, adding to your link popularity and search engine rankings.
      8) Avoid hyping in your resource box.
Your resource box, while promotional in nature, should be brief and tasteful. The purpose of your resource box is not to sell your readers something, but to lead them to your website which does the actual selling. Your resource box should contain your name, your company name, a brief description of your products or services, your web site's URL, and a clickable link to your site.
      9) Put some thought and effort into your writing.
E-zines have varying standards for accepting articles, and some accept and publish all submissions without any human review at all. However, this does not mean you should write an article just for sake of having it published somewhere. If your article comes off as half-baked, readers may make a similar assumption about you and your business practices.
      10) Submit your article to as many e-zines as feasible.
There are dozens of e-zines on the web that welcome submissions from independent authors. Ideally, you'd want your article to be exposed on as many of them as you can. But it takes time to register and submit to each one of them. Therefore, I recommend that you submit to only a handful of the more popular ones.

      B.Regards

It depends on the niche and whether or not there is a demand for the product. For ultra competitive niches, you may have to write a lot of articles before you see any result. For smaller obscure niches, you may get good results even with 2-3 articles.

    Cheers,

You can make mooney from your first article. Now, I guess your question is if yuo can live only from article marketing. Only few can do it, so don't rely only on writing articles. An average you should do at least $10 per article. So you do the math how many you have to write or outsource to keep a stable income. For this reason I am slowly moving away from this system and start build my own websites as well diversify my promotions.
