Why is taboola sending me traffic for free?

hello
i have a news site i havent signed up with taboola, all of a sudden tonight im getting 50 users on the site per 57 seconds from taboola to one of the news stories. how is that possible?

    Are the users taking any action? How long are is each user remaining on your site?

    If you did not sign up and advertise your site with Taboola, then it's very unlikely they are the ones sending you the traffic. It may be that someone else decided to promote your story for you, which is very unlikely. Did you write the story about a specific person or company? Maybe they would have reason to want to send traffic to the story if it they thought it would benefit them.

    If you have Google Analytics hooked up to your site, I would get in there and start looking at your stats. See if you can find out the IP addresses and where the users are coming from.

    That will at least give you a better idea of where the traffic is coming from and what it might be.

    If it starts to increase and you begin to get dozens of users per second, it could be the start of something bad, like a DDOS.

    The solution? Pay attention to how their heaviest advertisers set up their pages
