IM LIFESTYLE: What day of the week is it?

I jumped up bright and early this morning (8 am), grabbed a coffee, and started working. A great start to the week. I love Mondays. Everybody else trudging off to work and I'm doing the 10-second commute to my office.

Only one problem. Outside is so quiet. Hmmm? "Rieko! What day is it?"

"Sunday."

"OMG! I got up this early on a Sunday?"

I seriously need a calendar clock on the wall of my office. I keep losing track of what day it is. To make things even more confusing, Rieko and I've decided to make Tue/Wed our weekend. Great to slob around downtown while the streets are less crowded.

How has IM screwed up your internal clock?

Definitely. I never seem to know what day it is. I can keep track of time within 5 minutes without seeing a clock for hours.

But when it comes to what day of the week it is, I am completely worthless.

It's because we don't have a day job where we dread going to everyday so much that we count down the days until friday.

Lol, nice. I'm working from home without an office, my wife and kid like to talk just to talk... Like announcing what they are doing, or singing, or thinking out loud. I tend to stay up late just to get some peace and quite to get some work done.

Aside from often being with out a clue as to which day it is--among other things. I rarely know it's time for bed.

Or meals, for that matter. Since my office is in my home I'm usually advised a time or two when due at the table.

I've also learned that "just a minute" is not a literal measurement of time--to me. My wife is of a different opinion.

Thanks, Kevin...I thought it was just me spending too many hours in front of my laptop screen! I just had a "what day is it?" moment earlier this morning, too.

And since I have the luxury of being able to make up for lost sleep, I'll sometimes pull an all nighter to get a product out. Then I really get messed up. But the satisfaction of completing a project more than makes up for it.

And...I like it a lot better than when I had to punch a time clock!

      Cheers,

Oh, how nice it would be to have someone prepare meals and let me know when they are ready.

I often forget when it's time for a meal.

I also forget what day of the week it is.

Good to know I'm not the only one.

Also, I feel sorry for all of the Facebook friends who post, "TGIF" or "Is it the weekend yet?"

Count me in. I never have a clue what day of the week it is never mind the date. I've always been horrible with dates though so that's not a surprise. The day of the week thing isn't a huge deal for me because the only people I interact with on a business basis work 6 days a week so odds are good I'll catch them at work.

It's 1.30pm here and I'm about to go to bed.

I tried to get into a pattern of getting up at a normal time every morning but it's pretty hard to get out of bed when you don't have to.

Since I started working out my home full time on IM I have lost all routine. Getting up and going to the office gave me a bit of structure, now it is 4am and I am totally engrossed in making my latest blog and getting some pursuasive images on there. I probably wont go to bed for another few hours yet.

I really need a way to bring some structure back to my life but I have so much work to do that I am like a hermit crab! I think it will be like this until I break the back of it.

You nailed it. Ever since I'm a full-time IM'er my life's lost any sense of structure too. That's the one thing I miss from having a 9-to-5 job: my bio-clock was somewhat balanced.

Since working out of the house and having the place to myself (for the most part) I do lose track of time and days. I tent to work all night and into the morning, then sleep til the early evening. The random hours really confuse my timeline.

Luckily, Vegas is a 24 hour town, so no matter what day or what time it is, places are open for business.

That's what I love about living downtown. All convenience stores and some eateries are open 24/7. My favourite Chinese takeaway (Osaka No Osho) is open until early in the morning. So, just wander out for a bite at any time. I love living in a city.

I went to bed this morning at 4:30am. Most nights Im up til around 3am. I hate Fridays, and spend most of my weekends wishing Monday would come quickly.

I often find myself wondering "where all the people are...?" When Im out in public. Its typically because its such an odd hour.

Quite a lot Ill find myself stuck in heavily congested traffic and Ill think "whats with all this traffic...?" then I realise its the rat race either coming home or going to work.

I have worked for myself since 1995. I am always asking my wife, "What day is it"?

I can work 4 days a week or 7 days a week and I am happier working for myself than I ever was working for a boss.

Day of the week for self employed entrepreneurs is irrelevant.

For those who still have a J-O-B, a short story.
When my youngest son was in learning his days of the week he had a spelling test and one of the words on the spelling test was "MONDAY". He spelled it "MOANDAY" and the teach marked it wrong............what a miscarriage of justice. My wife still has that spelling test somewhere.

I would let you off, but what kind of signal would that send to the hamsters? Next thing you know they think they can just lope off for a tea and sunflower seed break at their own leisure and all the wheels would grind to a halt. One slipup could lead to anarchy.

Just yesterday I had to ask someone on the phone what day it was.

When I find myself getting into a very creative state of mind there is no stopping until I've finished the project.

Weeks before I release a major product I always end up slipping into a 48/12 sleeping pattern.. work for 48 hours, sleep for 12.

I don't think this is a healthy way to be but it works for me and makes sure I use all my creativity to its maximum potential.

I thought I was alone in this way but after reading this thread I can see that I'm among similar thinkers.

I hardly ever know what day it is

I don't wear a watch and I don't usually care what time it is, I'm often up at 4:30 doing something just because I woke up with something on my mind and just wanted to get it done.

Since I'm inherently lazy, I tend to work when I feel like it, so if the feeling comes I go with it.

I'll go you one better. The other day the mail lady came knocking. I answered in my typical work garb (pj's and complimentary bathrobe from a cruise the wife and I took a few years ago). The mail lady's used to that, so that's not the "go you one better" part. No, she came knocking because I hadn't been out of the house for about 5 days, and the roadside mailbox was chock full 'o mail. She was worried we'd been abducted or were on vacation. HA! I mumbled something incoherent to her that included the phrase "damn keywords!" at least twice. She loves this stop, I'm sure of it.

      awesome lol.

I do keep track of time, but never the days anymore.

I just found out 1 hour ago it was sunday...but I don't have to keep track of time because I' have so much of it...freedom, to do what I want when I want.

It's a blessing to wake up in the morning to money in your paypal account.

The only time I kept track of time was when I was working a 9 to 5...and that was because I would count down the days to my next paycheck.

I'm like Andy - I'll work when it suits me (time wise). Even though my family think I'm lazy and do no work, it's just an illusion - as I'm often work through the weekend, or until 3 am etc.

Mornings however, are still not my strong point. Although today was 6.30 am start, which is a new record for me.

Gotta love the freedom we enjoy, to be able have this conversation huh?

Make yourself a child or two and you will go back to normality again. You will have to wake up early each morning to prepare them for school. You will have to plan things for them to do over the weekend. You can only take long holidays when they are on holiday. So perhaps it is time that Rieko and you get on with it and TAKE ACTION!

Last night my wife called me to watch a TV program with her at 8pm.

I called back that I'd be about 5 minutes.

Next think I knew I looked at the clock on my computer and it was 1am. She'd got so annoyed with me that she'd gone to bed without saying goodnight!

Still, I woke her up to tell her I was there. Wouldn't want her to worry.

Funny thing is that I have no idea what I was doing for those 5 hours. It certainly wasn't productive time!

As to what day it is? I give up - can you give me a clue?

Have to 100% agree with that!

I have 2 myself, both in school, so, we do KIND of have a schedule. I still work all times of the day and night, and weekends, but, I DO have the freedom to take LONG naps in the day, AS WELL AS take off whenever I want to spend some time with the kids and my lovely wife.

For me I work by a different calendar.

Weeks are not long enough to do everything so I have a 10 day work week.

Since I still like the idea of a 4 week month, my months are 40 days long.

Somehow it all works out. What ever gets botched up I do a yearly adjustment on in January which comes for me sometime between Feb. and April on the Julian and Gregorian Calendars. It's around 2012 either way for me so my Aztec Calendar says I'm in trouble.

Funny post, I thought this was only me! After Graduation (Where I had to keep track of days and time) I started to expierience the loss of my "weeks" as I formerly knew them.

Now I see my weeks in segments. Segment I is monday through friday.. all groupd together, I usually won't be able to tell you what day it is exactly, I can just tell you it's a "week day"

I can tell you when the weekend is though, because most of my friends that work, or are in school are generally off and call me up to hang out or whatever.. And Sunday (third Segment) is a Day I always eat with the Family.. so I can tell that day.

Pretty strange, sometimes I wouldnt mind a little more structure just to "feel normal" but hey... I'm not really complaining! haha

Funny thing is that now I look at the week as "Days until I have to do something". So lets say I have a meeting in 6 days, today witll be "6 days until I have to do something", then I count down each day. It help me not forget to do the stuff I have to in the real world. ha! I do the same thing. I haven't really had to keep to a schedule for years now but on July 1 I had to fly back to the US for a family thing. For WEEKS prior to my trip I was freaking out trying to plan how my travel schedule was going to go. Having to be in a specific place at a specific time on a specific day completely stressed me out. lol

Ha ha! Not only do I wake up never knowing what day it is, but I'm in Australia working with all US clients, so this means I try to work to US hours.

We're 16 hours ahead of the US, so when I quote times to clients I have to remember that Friday for them is Saturday for me. Confusing - but I wouldn't have it any other way
