Where list building went wrong?

I have made various attempts through the years at list building, but always abandoned without results. I would add an opt in for a freebie on my site, but I ended up with less sales than before and didn't get many on the list.

I think I've just clicked what I was doing wrong. People coming to my site already knew what they wanted because they'd been channelled by my youtube videos, so were distracted by the opt in and less likely to buy. What I need to do is aim the freebie/opt in at people who haven't come across the samples on a page away from the place where the warmed up customers come. Is that right? And any ideas how I would get to these people?

    You will get both new and return visitors to your site mostly when its organic traffic like Youtube or Google there's no doubt about that.

    Personally If I were you I would work on my Landing page maybe tweak it or create various version with different offer to see which convert best cause what you have on your landing page is what would determine if your visitors take action or not. Hope that helps

    Why not start directing your YouTube traffic to a squeeze page instead?

    In your videos just say something like "If you want to learn more about this, grab my Free report at "XXXX", the link is also in the description."

    That way they will already be primed to opt-in for the freebie.

    If you are using YouTube to drive traffic you should be able to build a good relationship with these subscribers as they will already like you and have a connection to you because of your videos.
