Dating site getting traffic - best way to monetize?

Hey WF,

I built a dating reviews site a couple of years ago. It's loaded up with original content (a review) for around 20 individual dating sites. Within each review, visitors are able to submit their own review of that respective site.

I forgot about the site for a while, but having just checked some of the stats, I can see that it's actually really taking off. It's ranking easily on page 1 for some very good terms ([dating site] + reviews)..

Also some of the dating sites have as many as 60 genuine reviews from visitors. This blows my mind that users are actually using the site properly as intended.

Anyway, I'm not monetising at all at the moment, which is annoying.

How would you go about monetising this?

I'm thinking:
  • start growing a list
  • integrate with AdSense
  • build some affiliate relationships

One issue regarding affiliate relationships is that most of the reviews are actually really bad for the dating sites. I suppose that users are angry and want to let other people know about their poor experiences etc. So for that reason, many of these companies likely won't want to do a deal with me?

I've also considered just selling the site, but not sure what it's worth..

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Joe

Develop a product for your audience based on the shortcomings of other products. Read your visitor reviews of other products, what are they complaining the products should help with but don't?

It seems you are not 100% into it so i suggest you sell on websites like Flippa.

  • Hi Joe,

You can get some nice additional income by selling your ad space to the right advertisers. video intelligence (vi.ai) connects publishers to advertisers and specialises in providing suitable, premium, non-intrusive video advertising options.

As the biggest advantage you get ads that match the content of your website, so you can maximise your revenue. It is also beneficial for your audience, since studies show that premium targetted videos improve the overall experience.

You can check more info on the website vi.ai

    Have a good day!

you can grow a list, and also think about selling some ads positions on your website, you could still generate some incomes, while thinking about what you are intending to do exactly!! After, if you still don't have the results you are expecting, then you can sell it!!

Which site has the best or least bad reviews? That's the site I would affiliate with and advertise on every review.

"Here is our recommendation for the best dating site." Or something similar.

Hi Joe, can you indicate your site or part of the url please? All the sites ranking for the first three pages for "Dating Site reviews" are high traffic newspaper article links, mainstream dating sites or sites with affiliate links. I can't see any sites that don't have affiliate links. It's a competitive space to get into.

The best way to monetise would be detailed honest reviews with affiliate links although no doubt there could be some dating ebook products to sell from the likes of Clickbank.

I should declare an interest here as I am currently developing a site with the exact match terms you have referenced. Not to be confused with an existing site that does very well with the word reviews (plural) in its url rather than 'review'.

The site ranks for loads of long-tail keywords. It's not even in the top 100 for 'dating site reviews'. However, the long-tail traffic we're seeing is very highly engaged and actively leaving reviews. In the 10's every month.

Here's the URL: Dating Site Reviews, Written by You - YouThenMe.com

It's not the sexiest website as you can see. I've just added the ability to leave replies on user reviews, and started collecting emails subtly when reviews are left.

Been accepted into quite a few affiliate networks in the past week, so I look forward to adding affiliate links.

If anyone has any joint venture or partnership ideas, please get in touch.

      Thanks,
      Joe

Hi, relationship and dating are rather popular niches. Why don't you relook at your strategy unless you can sell it for a healthy sum. Ask yourself if you really sell it, what will be your next niche and plan. Start all over again for a new niche? Never easy in the beginning and you have walked this far so why let go now? Unless you are no longer interested or planning otherwise..
