Should paid ads always lead to an opt in?

I've been trying Facebook and Bing ads with zero success.

First, I tried leading them to an opt in page for free videos - tiny take up, so too costly.
Then I tried just leading them straight to the product site, still nothing.

I also tried including a price on the ad to deter those who only want freebies, still got visits but no extra sales.

I currently get all sales from youtube traffic but I'm trying to find other ways to reduce the dependency on one site.

Any ideas? Thanks

    You're jumping way ahead

FB ads is front loaded when it comes to costs

You burn through cash figuring out ads that work

Experiment with picture / title / description

Once you get a nice CTR

    Experiment with interests on FB

Once you maximize your CTR, experiment with lead collection

So yes, you are trying to do the newbie thing of attempting to combine Traffic and Conversion into a single step.

Learn how to drive qualified traffic first. Then learn how to convert that traffic into opted-in leads. They're two separate steps.

Straight to an offer is bad. You were right the first time, with the idea of trying to collect the lead you just paid to generate.

If your ad message and your opt-in message don't match, you'll have trouble. Hard to diagnose more without seeing what you're doing.

If you're currently getting sales from YT traffic... scale that traffic by doing YT ads. Master the YT traffic before going to another source. Once you have mastered YT traffic ads and feel it necessary to step out to another traffic source master one at a time. Bing ads and FB ads require two different strategies.

Paid ads in ANY platform is always the same, is just a source of traffic. You need to focus on being relevant to your traffic and bring a whole experience. If they don't know you, they're not going to convert, not even as a simple lead.

    This is my advice:

Create some piece of good content, if you're using youtube with success a video should be great. Drive paid Traffic to that piece of content and THEN retarget the audience who engaged with your content to the landing page. It will get you way higher conversions becuase they previously saw something of value from you.

Once they optin, build a relationship and continue to provide value and after that ask for the sale, retarget your leads with your sales page and If you took some time to build trust, it should be easy to convert.

The more relevant you are to your audience, the better your results will be in your entire marketing efforts, not only paid ads

Just my 2 cents, hope it helps

We would need more info to help.
Some details which would help - niche, idea on your targeting, demographics, landing pages, how many offers you have tried, bidding, ads, etc, etc

For most new marketers, yes, you should be trying to capture your prospect's contact information first. Sending random cold traffic to a sales page is hard to sustain, generally difficult to convert, and most often hard to justify the expense vs. the benefit. Your cost per lead will generally be quite high.

IMO, it's much better to spend a little more on very high quality traffic that is nicely targeted, send the traffic to a squeeze page offering valuable information that you know the niche prospects are seeking, and make it a risk-free "no-brainer" for the prospect to join your list. Start small, optimize your squeeze page offer, test, track, and tweak the results, and hopefully you'll come up with a good offer that will put targeted prospects on your list for a reasonable cost. Then nurture, assist, and help your subscribers so they begin to trust you in your marketplace.

It's really about leading prospects to valuable products that will help them - it's difficult to do that on first contact.

That is the biggest mistake you can make as an Internet Marketer, that is not to use an opt-in page to capture emails of your paid traffic. When you capture these emails you can market to them over and over again!

There are a few things to look at.

    1. Are your FB ads truly relevant to your lead page?

    2. Look at WHY you're YT videos are converting, there is always a why.
Then see if you can take that info to your ads,

    3. Stop FB ads for a while and test with Bing. If Bing converts then you may have a niche that's not so good for FB.

    4. If YT videos are converting, then scale up that success with YT ads.

The main thing is, do what you did in the beginning which is BUILD YOUR LIST.

Don't do this. Instead do lead generation. But... it sounds like you're in a niche that has heard the same claims from other marketers besides yourself.

Also, you aren't giving us much insight of your marketing materials. How does your squeeze page look? How are you doing your FB and Bing Ads advertising? What's your email marketing follow-up sequence look like? Youtube is great. Find ways to grow the sales from your Youtube efforts. Have you ever looked into running ads on Youtube?

What's your demographics and how are you targeting?

Facebook ad rather slim chance to get optin as many are there to access and share information but do not wish to provide email contact as they do not know you enough. You may wish to try solo ads using your Squeeze Page as the sellers have built relationships with their list of subscribers hence there will be optin of at least 40% of the clicks you bought. I do have one simple suggestion.

Since you are good in getting sales from Youtube, you should stick to Youtube by making more videos about whatever content you want to put out.

At the end of each video, you can ask them for comments, feedback and any questions they may have regarding the information you put out.

Before responding them accordingly with your reply comments and next video.

David Tian - a Love Guru is a great example and absolute master of this.

You can check out his Youtube channel as a model example that you can use for your own.

As well as Eben Pagan and Tony Robbins.

You do not need to be a master of all traffic sources.

Just be a master of ONE and then teach others who are interested to learn from you the same.

Yes I believe paid ads should always lead to opt-in page. That way you can give them more value in your email follow-up, which will result in sales!

A lot of people still insist on trying to find Methods for direct linking. Sometimes it can work but most of the time is doesn't

You can qualify your leads in optin process by offering a lead magnet that you "giveaway" for $1.

That will distinguish between Buyers and Tirekickers...which is a good thing

You CAN make money off direct links on Bing but here's what is most likely happening with your statement above. Your youtube videos are most likely providing the critical ingredient that I see 70% of warriors here missing in order to get conversions

    CREDIBILITY

Conversions begin in almost any niche (except MMO - more on that shortly) when you have earned some credibility not when you make a sales pitch. Your youtube videos are probably giving you that vital step so that when they go over to your site they already trust you somewhat.

Your site itself is probably giving none. Unfortunately because everyone here recommends Wordpress for everything most people just pick a WP theme and put up some content and really - is the average consumer with cash just going to hand over their money easily because someone put up a wordpress page? without some other credibility gauge? I and many others are looking for some sign of a legit business or signs of authority. WP themes often don't give that sense - especially the free ones.

Why do people still think this will work? Frankly because this is predominantly a MMO by showing people how to MMO board. In MMO you have so many people wishing , day dreaming and hoping against hope they will make money they will click on the buy now button much more readily based on - 'perhaps this will work'.

They are also fine with a one page sales page site because they are used to it from other repeated quests to find the buried treasure where the rainbow marks the spot. Despite the claim that a one shot selling page is the shizzle by copywriters they DO NOT do well in many niches. If they did ALL businesses like green so they would be doing them. You would see them from Amazon. Your pizza joint would have them and for all the other things you shop for they would be there - but you don't see that because they do not work well except for MMO, information products and relatively cheap products you would see at 1 AM on TV.

Want sales? develop CREDIBILITY. When I come to your site you should look and feel like a well established business. Here's the reality. Even though you got paid traffic from Google or Bing they give you ONE kind of traffic - search users (with some exception for adsense traffic). Search users by very definition are coming to your site before or after looking at other sites - you better gain credibility from your site's design, setup or content (all three in fact) or bye bye - they are gone to another site to press the buy now button. Even though they came to your site because you paid for it they STILL are searchers so they 95% of the time will be comparing you to what else they have found.

Practically everyone comparison shops on the internet anyway

You come up sub par? - your paid traffic just fizzled.

Sounds like a tough situation. Could be many different factor of things that are not making your offer work right. Targeting, Ad creative, Lander copy etc.

I would say if Youtube is working for you, double down on it and push it to it's absolute maximum. When you feel like you cannot grow any more then move on to another traffic source and then you will have more money to test your traffic with.

What I would try is taking your most successful video on YouTube (both in terms of getting attention as well as leading to conversions) - load that onto Facebook and create an ad sending traffic to that video (no opt-in).

With re-targeting, you can now re-target traffic toward opt-in or your product pitch to those who spent more than 3-minutes (as an example) watching your video...that way you are getting inexpensive ads to your content while paying more for pre-qualified traffic. This is the method most successful advertisers on FB are using right now.

  • Ive tend to see bing ads is mainly freebies. (Maybe I done it wrong when I tried)

FB ads is expensive but very profitable when done correctly.

Your Targeting needs to be on point, and your optin has to have a clear Headline that addresses one specific pain point and a solution, value proposition and a clear call to action.

Then your follow up messages must have the same message.

you should be collecting emails to create your own traffic source. this is why an optin is required. if you run paid traffic with out collecting emails you will lose a lot of money.

If you're going to be doing paid traffic then you should only focus on mastering the one traffic source that you feel most comfortable with.

For me, I use Facebook because I invested a lot of money into figuring it out and now I have a solid foundation on how to get a successful ad campaign running.

But for you, it may different.

As soon as you find the traffic source that you want to use - it should always go to an opt-in page so that you can follow up with that lead in later emails.

So learn how to drive targeted traffic to high converting landing pages and you have the recipe for making money online.

    Good luck!
