Need Content Ideas? This Will Work in Any Niche

Marketing a small business can be a daunting task for the business owner that has no previous marketing experience. I was in that position many years ago and I remember struggling to come up with ideas for my blog and also ways to market my business on a shoestring budget.

Yet, around a holiday it was usually easier to write a blog post, think of a content idea, or dream up a promotion of one sort or another based on that holiday's theme.

It's pretty easy and natural to promote a New Year's Kickoff, a 4th of July Firecracker Sale, or a Halloween Spooky Special. But did you know that there are many of other holidays in a year that might be on people's minds or that could trigger some specialized content from your business?

I've compiled a list of holidays and events in 2018 that could become the basis of some of your content, promotions, or even a sale during the coming year. It's not too early to begin planning for next year. You probably won't want to use all of these dates, of course, so just pick and choose what you need.

This list is by no means exhaustive. In fact, there are many celebrations that could be the theme of your content that I'm guessing you've never heard of.

Did you know these days are celebrated? (You could have some fun with this . . .)

Thank Your Mentor Day 1/19
Working Naked Day 2/3
National Kick Butts Day 3/15
National Go For Broke Day 4/5
Eat What You Want Day 5/11
Stupid Guy Thing Day 6/11
No Make-Up Day 7/21
National Kiss and Make Up Day 8/25
National Lazy Mom's Day 9/1
World Octopus Day 10/1
Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day 11/15
National Fruitcake Day 12/27

You can certainly use this list beyond 2018, however, many of these dates are "floating" meaning the exact date changes from year to year.

If you can't use one of these celebrations in your marketing, there is always an alternative for any day in the year. Just Google "this day in history" and you will find several large archive sites that will give you events that have taken place on "this day" throughout history. I have often used these resources to spur ideas for my marketing. Once you've done this a few times, it's pretty easy to come up with unique content ideas for anything you promote.

The very best to all of you,

Steve

Yeah, Cinco De Mayo is big down here, and everywhere to a certain degree it has gotten pretty big in the last decade or so.

This is a really good source, Steve.

I can see this could help Marketers in all kinds of Niches and Marketing Platforms.

For instance, Teespringers could capitalize off this and make some profit with T-shirts aimed at these dates .

If you do anything food related, check with the promotion board or association for particular foods.

For example, yesterday my email contained multiple promotions for National Pasta Day.

Youtube refers to this as "tent poling", which comes from the spikes in traffic for a few days for events that last for a period of time.

Thank you Steve; this is a fantastic idea for creating timely content and content that will be of popular interest. I could see how this would be shared widely on Social Media which should provide some good organic reach and engagement.

Just to add to this, and Steve's great suggestion, brand new content is not always required. For example, the Skyscraper Technique works brilliantly any niche. In essence its quite simple:

    Step 1: Find link-worthy content

Step 2: Make something even better

Step 3: Reach out to the right people

So in essence, if you are operating in Marketing - look for current topics, particularly from popular writers or blogs in that space, and then research around further into those topics. From there, write a more in-depth version using the research you have accumulated.

I am so upset I never knew about Lazy Mom's Day. I could have been lazy for a day! Geez.

    Great ideas, Steve.

I see on another holiday list that today is Evaluate Your Life day. Sounds way too tiring. I'm going to skip that one.

Holidays are Great for Content - Here's Another Idea...

Holidays are great because people have their attention on them when they roll around. Anything people have their attention on can be a good source of content because when the subject is fresh in their mind, they will click.

    So here's a neat trick:

Choose content based on what is trending. It definitely helps to title your content based on trending keyword phrases. To find out what is trending, just go to Google and type "trending" or "trending products" or "trending styles" or "trending __________". You can do this for any niche.

Why not just visit Google Trends?

At the very top of the page there is a search bar labeled "explore topics." Type in the trend you want to study and Google will overwhelm you.

Yes, there are thousands of different ways to get ideas for content. This post was only meant to discuss one specific way that many people don't think about - holidays.

      Thanks for joining the conversation,

Yes. That's right. When people are on holiday mood, they tend to be more relax and open your content. Great ideas.

This might not sound enticing but.... Ezinearticles offers article templates you can use to easily create articles. This is good for those who dont write, or dont trust others for writing for them.... or simply dont want to pay anyone to do this small task for them. They have a TON of em - and they're good.
