How I Buy Domains, Hosting, Everything (great for newbies)

I see a lot of people asking about these things, so I can imagine there are a ton of newbies here who would like this information. It's not as widespread as I thought it would be.

Get better prices:

Slickdeals.net and RetailMeNot.com are two sites to try. For example, today I needed some webhosting, so I went on to RetailMeNot and typed in HostGator.com. Several good promo codes came up.

If you want hosting this month, go to HostGator and use the promo code goonmonth for $25 off. Today I bought 6 months of the baby service for under $35.

Don't buy domains through you're hosting provider. You will probably pay too much, and they will probably give you a hard time with it if you try to leave them.

I buy mine from GoDaddy. It's not uncommon to find codes using the sites above to get .com domains for a couple bucks, or get privacy and other things thrown in for free. GoDaddy also has codes that work for renewals as well, for all of you who already own domains. For example, I was recently able to purchase a handful of .com domains for about $2 each, all said and done.

If you are just starting out, you can buy a .info domain for less than a buck, and head over to 000webhost.com for free hosting. You will hear terrible things about free hosting services, but I used theirs for about a year and it worked pretty well for me.

You can build a basic site yourself very easily using your host's tools, or you can upload your own. You can find hundreds, maybe thousands, of free website templates through this link: 20 Places To Download Free Website Templates

There you go. You can have your own website with your own domain, hosted and functional for about a buck. After that, you're ready to upgrade to good hosting and more domains on the cheap.
