Alexa - How they work?

Does anybody know how Alexa get info for the statistic?

I have a website InsureZero Blog and on Alexa its show that I 312,209 Rank in India.
I am not from India and I don't have visitors from India, 95% are from the US.
So, why I am in India Rank, any idea?

I have found this link that should help you with this question.

It would seem that you can have either national or global ranking on your site. They system may think that you are based in India.

Would a simple email to Alexa's support department answer your question better than random folks on a public forum?

I would caution you about putting any effort into Alexa rankings. As Alexa says right on it's own website (source: see link given by PosInfo1):

"We do not receive enough data from our sources to make rankings beyond 100,000 statistically meaningful." If Alexa says it's own rankings are not meaningful, why would you waste time on them?

Alexa check website traffic before increasing its rank.

Most of the data is based on tracking browser users who have the Alexa toolbar installed.

It is highly inaccurate and not worth worrying about.

I'll give you the most awesomest tip anyone can give you on the subject: never think at all about Alexa. Alexa is not relevant to your site or life.

Some affiliate networks approve new Publishers only after checking Alexa Rank.

        Why?

Once had a website that got between 10 to 20 visitors a month. Alexa said I had 6000, I was site number 800,000 something.

At the same time, I had a site that got some 600 visitors a month. It was site number 2,400,000 something.

My main sites right now, sites that actually make money, real money, Alexa says "not enough data."

Yet we're getting calls, setting appointments, making sales.

Makes me wonder about what else the people who rely on Alexa do wrong.

I'd really not focus much of this metric IZ, only because it is fickle and in addition to that, your success will hinge on creating helpful content and building your blogging buddy network steadily. Do those 2 things and if your Alexa rocks or not, it will not matter.
