Is blogging the best way to sell my information product?

I'm asking because I have been blogging for a year now (I've written 40 articles with videos for each) and have got very few results... I acquired a couple people (25) on my list but do not get regular traffic and have not made a sale yet...

Is blogging the best way to start making money? Many people told me that it is since I'm trying to build a brand, but that it takes a very long time to start working...

I am getting discouraged because of my lack of results and I am starting to second-guess every decision that I take. I don't know if I'll be able to withstand another year of no results...

I would LOVE to start making money soon, even if its just a 1$. Just the fact of making 1$ would change everything for me... I taught that I would be making money by now and I am extremely scared that my project is never going to work. I feel defeated and really want to make this work. My niche is not the problem because many people are making money in this niche.

I just finished a 90 day challenge and I am starting a new one. I am trying to figure out what to focus on but would like you guys 2 cents.

Do you know of any online business coach? I would love to talk with someone that actually sits down and takes a look at my business to help me figure out what my next move should be.

If you have any questions plz let me know.

Blogging / building an authority site is the best long term option.

But to make some money right now, today. No it's not - unless you wanna wait 2 years.

My friend... it takes a considerable amount of time to build a profitable blog. It took me about a year to generate my first sale from blogging.

There are several successful marketers making a ton of money blogging... two that come to mind are Neil Patel and John Chow (they may even offer to coach). If anything you should follow them and optin to their list to see how they structure their marketing.

In the meantime... I'd like to offer you the following tips:

    1. Go after longtail low-hanging fruit keywords (which are less competitive but still gets lots of traffic).

    2. Try posting at least 2 to 3 times a week of quality content and share it all over the web.

    3. Make sure that you have a funnel set up for optins so that you can build rapport with your customers before selling to them.

    4. Make sure that you have Google Analytics installed on your blog so that you can measure your traffic and make adjustments accordingly.

    Good Luck!

    Jake,

    Start following this blogger:

    Darren Rowse

There are lots of good resources on his site that should help you.

    Ask yourself:
    1. Am I offering information and products on my site that are really compelling?
    2. How am I giving great value to anyone that comes to my blog?
    3. Why should anyone listen to me? Why should they buy from me?
    4. Who are the profitable bloggers in my niche and how are they different from me?
    5. Am I removing all the risk to buyers at my site?
    6. What do I want to be known for? What is my brand?
    7. How am I distributing my content (posts and videos) and am I getting it in front of my target audience?
    8. What social proof do I have that I know what I'm talking about?
    9. How many niche authority sites are linking to my site?
    10. How often do I contact my subscribers and am I giving them unexpected value in the niche?
Questioning what you are doing (honestly) sometimes helps to point out areas where you can improve. This is a business where you have to go out and grab the bull by the horns. Just going through the motions (waiting for good things to happen) won't build your business.

    The very best to you,

    Steve

Yes blogging does take time.... yes you have to write your tail end off. 40 articles is about where I start a blog. You need to try and write an article every other day.. have a article with a video once a week. and just keep at it. Grind it out.... stay persistant. Success will come.

And in the meantime.. you want your first dollar from online? Ill gladly pay it to you!

    Hey,
Through blogging, you can give information to your customers which not only markets your product but also create awareness and close the final deal.
So, you can say it is to repurpose, enhance, bundle and sell your content in an information product.
Your blogging will assist them not only to analyze how correct you're at what you dhow you do and how you may assist them in understanding your product.

I think that it is worth remembering that if you wanted to become a lawyer or a doctor that it would take years of study and hard work. You are looking to become a professional internet marketer. Well that's a staggering array of bad information caused by telling you only half the story.

Blogging is only worthwhile if you have a means of reaching your target audience. This can be done through keyword targeting your blog posts and additional SEO, or by reaching your audience through adverts or social media.

If nobody knows your blog exists, there's no point you having a blog. What you need to concentrate on is a means of driving people to your blog. (Your blog also needs to be interesting but I'm assuming this isn't the issue.)

When you have enough traffic then you need to consider your conversion rates and start optimising.

Don't just keep trucking when you haven't got a solid system in place. Change what you are doing until it works for you, and then point your proven persistence at it. At least you are determined, and that's a big thing.

Go with your gut and experience. Its pretty obvious to you but you are being misled into not believing your gut. It hasn't worked and guess what - IT DOESN'T WORK FOR THE MILLIONS OF BLOG OUT THERE.

All the success stories you are seeing people refer to are a result of getting the word out OUTSIDE OF A BLOG. To make your blog work and start making money you either need luck (which very few get) or you should be spending most of your time becoming an expert of using third party sites (like Google, FB, Youtube, Pinterest) and reaching out to other bloggers_and working public relations. You do NOT start making money off just blogging.

I am well known as a SEO but relying on SEO alone to make a blog take off because of its "great content" seldom leads to the big time by itself. Popular definition of insanity comes in to play - don't listen to people saying stick with it when it hasn't worked - in your case not making you even a dollar. Change it up. You are NOT on the right track no matter what anonymous forum posters tell you.

P.S. if your info product is not in the MMO you should be on sites like udemy - you would work that more than your blog.

Are you promoting your blog / posts?

If you are wanting to sell your info product, why are you not promoting it directly? Drive targeted traffic to a squeeze page and build a list of subscribers / prospects.

I'm not a fan of blogging. Obviously, there are blogs that have huge followings and are financially successful. However, this is not the case for the average blogger.

The reason you created your blog was so you had a distribution channel to promote what you sell. But you will find that email is probably the #1 distribution channel you can create, as you can generate traffic on demand with your list.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with having a blog, as it creates a social presence / proof of your authority. But if your goal is to sell your info product, I would be building an email list first and foremost.

    Anyway, just my 2 cents.

The question is: Is blogging the best way to sell my information product? You don't need to see the blog the OP has to say, yes, no, maybe, depends. And, to be useful, give your reasons for it.

My answer: it depends. What does it depend on? What else, besides writing posts you do.

Writing posts, the blogging part of blogging is, by itself, insufficient as others have already pointed out, to selling products online, information or otherwise.

As it's been pointed out: blogging + marketing your blog is the 'bogging' successful bloggers do well.

      Which leads us to:
the blogging part must be well executed
the placing of post in front of likely buyers must be well executed.

Bloggingfalls in the group of making money online where you can succeed with little money and a lot of time... though, of course, having lots of money for marketing is a faster way... The thing about time: you can't scale it up, you can't spend it faster. All you can do is plod along for 1 hour every hour, and that's it.

So, blogging is a good way if you know who your audience is, how to reach them (that means you understand them and present them content that makes them buy your information products... that means you know whether it's best to reach them via SEO, snail mail, facebook, etc. and how to create the appropriate marketing content for each particular best way.)

    Hi Jake,

I can feel your discouragement. I have been there dude.

One note; it seems like your energy is focused heavily on "getting" (selling info product, getting traffic, etc) so whenever that happens, it is almost impossible to effectively "give" (writing guest posts, sharing posts on Warrior, effective blog commenting, answering questions on Quora).

My advice: give freely and move away from trying so much to "get" through blogging. If you are having a sales issues, you are being stingy with your time, talents and knowledge. Start guest posting, Seek top blogs in your niche. That will get your name out there.

Comment effectively on top blogs. 3-4 paragraph, personalized comments.

Generously answer questions on Warrior and Quora.

Promote other bloggers, to build friendships.

You will expand your reach, pop up on the radar of new readers, and sales will gradually increase. But you want to focus like 98% of your energies to giving, and like barely anything to getting. Uncomfortable at times? Hell yeah; this is why few bloggers succeed, and it's also why most people in my niche think that I have 400 clones

Follow these steps and remember; good things take time. But if you plan to be around for the next 2-4 years, you may as well do it right, to build a sustainable, long term blogging business and to enjoy the ride.

Jake, with no sales after a year, you don't actually have a business. At best, all you have is a hobby.

As others have said, blogging by itself isn't going to bring buyers to your door. You can use it as part of your overall marketing strategy, but if you only have one product to sell, there are far more efficient ways of accomplishing that.

If your heart's set on being a blogger, reach out to others in your niche and potential readers by getting involved on other platforms and start some serious networking/promoting. You should also think about adding more products or services to your inventory.

Hey frank, I do only have one product to sell... you said that there are far better ways to start selling it than to blog, can you expand on this?

Here is what I was doing at the moment:

--> Create unique high quality content that solves problems on my website (written articles, pictures and videos)

--> Promote those articles, pictures and videos on social media and other websites (facebook groups in my niche, reddit, forums in my niche, youtube, twiter, instagram, pinterest, and post my stuff on sites like Digg.com, medium.com, stumble upon and tumblr...

--> When people get to my website, I have numerous ways that people can optin to my list (sidebar, pop up, end of articles, within articles, in my video description) Most of these optins direct people to my squeese page where i give them a valuable freeby.

--> Once they are on my list, I send them a greeting msg, then 2 of my best peices of information to help them and the 4rth email is a pitch to my product. My product is just an ebook at the moment priced at 9.99$ (I did not create a sales page for it since nobody even clicked on the offer through email.

I also have a pitch for the biggest affiliate in my niche on the 7th email and nobody clicked that also....

Is there a better way to do this?

Heres what I thought my new "sales funnel" shoud be to improve:

--> Create 2 or 3 more squeeze pages with different freebies and test to see which one is the best.

--> Pay for facebook ads that link to my squeez page directly.

--> Create a sales page for my ebook.

--> After giving them the freeby, send my subscribers to my sales page.

I just want to know that all the work ive done wasent for anything... I was so pumped to do this but after more than a year of zero results im just soo drained and discouraged, Im afraid none of this is ever going to work...

At least a few people in this thread get it.

Blogging doesn't do squat for you if nobody ever sees it. You can write 2-3 of the best posts available in your niche per day. It won't matter one freaking bit. Don't listen to those people who say Google loves and rewards great content. Total BS. Google loves authority, and you have none.

There are many other ways to get traffic outside of Google too.

You need to put effort (and maybe money) into promoting what you are doing.

Just blogging is about as useful as just farting into the wind.

the sad thing is the Op says he does videos with each post. If he stopped listening to the "blog and they will come crowd" and he has something structured and worthwhile to teach he would have made some change at udemy (or one of the countless other training sites popping up every month) by now.

Friend don't feel as defeated you will succeed soon.It take some more time i guess & you should do research for your product & content you are using, the keywords etc.
other than this i suggest focus on following-
-Make your offer relevant to your audience
    -Be authentic
-Make your offer easy to find
-Fold the offer into your post
-Mine your comments for new product and service ideas
-Offer occasional special deals for your readers only

Deep down, you know it's true.

Creating a product is a natural next step for you as a blogger.

(It's your best chance of making some real money from your blog too.)

But building a product is scary.

Not just because it means putting yourself out there for the world to judge - though that can be pretty terrifying. No, it's scary because of all the things that can go wrong.

What if you spend hundreds of hours to build your product, and nobody likes it?

What if you invest hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars, and nobody ends up buying?

What if you pour your heart and soul into it, and the handful of customers who do buy end up asking for refunds because they never get the results you promised them?

These fears are more than justified; this is what happens to *most* people who set out to build a product.

But it doesn't have to be that way...

Surely, blogging is one of the best ways to earn money easily. However, it takes time. You just cannot open a blog and start earning money from the very next moment on. You need to give it time and put great and unique contents. And the most important part is, never lose hope. It is not necessary that your first blog takes off perfectly without any hassle, but you need to try constantly. Two or three blogs may fail too.
But, if you are looking for ways to earn money instantly, blogging is surely not the way. For that, you can choose the path of freelancing. There are many websites on the internet such as Contentmart.com that provides a good platform for content writers. You can start earning and support your blogging dream at the same time. Hope this answer will come to your aid.

No it wouldn't. Cause once Paypal takes that 0.30 fee + percentage out of it, you're going to get tired of working hard, but getting less than $1 per sale. But you're on the right track, sounds like you're passionate about your blog and that's a good thing. Just make sure you're capturing subscribers.

Have the opt-in form on every page of your blog, and make sure that you have a hover ad that appears whenever someone new visits your blog. This will give you a big increase in leads immediately. Are you doing any paid advertising to your blog, and what kind of affiliate offers (or your own info-products) do you have on your blog?

Considering millions of blogs out there, and millions of gifted writers, your chance of making money is quite slim unless you're very gifted like a successful musical artist.

      1. Go paid route. Don't be afraid to lose some money initially. No matter what you'll lose some seed money in the beginning. Once you hold a firm grip in paid ads, invest and re-invest the money you make, and build a laser targeted list.

      2. If you don't have the money, right now, begin freelancing or pursue some offline jobs.

      3. But, never put your entire efforts into blogging in your first or second year. FIRST, try create a consistent stream of revenue with paid ads because its fastest. Then, do some blogging to test whether it works or not.

      4. Remember, blogging is very frustrating in the begging and you may not see any dimes coming in for a very long time.

      5. You will do a blog but not now.

Hi, If it makes any difference, and you may be doing this already, make sure that however many people see it, that you keep giving value through content. And provide some entertainment. Obviously what is entertaining is hugely subjective,so satisfy yourself above all and people you deserve will more likely come than if you are going outside of your interest sphere to satisfy too many others.

  • Great post! I personally feel, if you put a blog post a day, your need to right away social bookmark it with sites like reddit, stumbleupon, digg, etc. And also synchronize your blog posts with social media platforms such as, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Main thing here is to get your blogs going viral. Not to mention, you can hire someone from fiverr.com to do backlinks and SEO for your Blog post. This will surely, guarantee your a good amount of traffic and give you some good sales.

Blogging is one of the best ways to build authority and long-term traffic for your info product. I recommend you set up a new challenge to write a new blog posts (not something super short either) every day for 90 days.

Make sure you're set up to share each post all over social media. Personally, I use Triberr, Buffer and a few other tools to make this process easy. Choose the tools and avenues you like best.

If you did this, by the end of 90 days, you'd have 90 blog posts and you'd probably have a significant following on social media.

If you're looking for an online business coach for blogging, look up Ryan Biddulph. I think he offer coaching and he's one of the best bloggers I know.

My personal philosophy has always been to use blogging as a mechanism upon which to build your email list.

You can then utilize direct response marketing (emails) to build a relationship, and then sell your products.

Do you have any cool lead magnets promoted prominently on your blog?

    Hi Jake,

I have been there buddy. It can be frustrating.

But my 10 years of blogging experience says: "Keep things simple."

    Meaning:

    - throw out the 90 day challenge stuff
    - write 500 to 1000 words daily in a Word document and trash the doc, to improve your writing skills
    - write 3-4 paragraph, in-depth, personalized comments on top blogs from your niche to bond with top bloggers
    - promote top bloggers in your niche on your blog and through social media
    - publish 1-2 helpful posts weekly on your blog
    - begin guest posting on blogs from your niche

Following the basics will build a solid foundation for your blog. But ya gotta follow these tips daily, to lay the strong foundation.

As for monetizing, monetize your passions and tie those income streams into some problem solving vehicle.

Do you love writing? Offer freelance writing services and self- publish eBooks related to your niche and write online courses related to your niche.

    The Difference Maker

Following those tips should help nicely, but ya gotta face, feel and dissolve your fears around money aka, money blocks, in relation to blogging.

Meditation helps, EFT tapping is another option.

I prefer meditating, and also, reading a few lines from A Course in Miracles Daily. Some guys here bust my cajones and say I spread fluff and pixie dust with this Love-Harmony-Prosperity stuff, but they are not writing these words from the Upper West Side of Manhattan for the next 2 weeks, with Michael Strahan and his $15 million brownstone as your neighbor....and I am

All in good fun though. Definitely feel out those money fears, and more money, and profitable opportunities and ideas, will flow your way as you work the blogging fundamentals.

I do know of an online business coach who has expertise in blogging....I know him very, very well. Very well.

In all seriousness though, sticking to the basics and getting to know Warriors who offer content generously here - there are a ton of them - by following their blogs and emailing them and chatting them up, this is how you will find whom you vibe with, and who will be a good coach for you.

    All the best dude.

Oh, the importance of making your first dollar online is impossible to overrate, and there is a solution for you.
It might be not the best, and not the most profitable way to monetize your blog, but it will undoubtedly burst your motivation.
Why don't you want to add Google advertisements (Google AdSense) to your blog?
Even a few visitors per day will make you a dollar in a week.
You did a great job, why not to start reaping the benefits.
Yes, you've come to the online marketing community, where everyone has been taught to build trust, deliver value, and start monetizing your blog (list) in 50 years.
But adding a banner to your blog won't hurt your blog in any way.

I know how you feel. I also felt discouraged initially. But I kept at it and I'm getting 150 opt ins a day now and about to launch 2 of my own products that I'm really excited about. If you want to feel better go and look at how the traffic initially started on 99% of your favourite websites, you'll see it was a tiny pathetic dribble at first but then as they kept making great content they rose above the rest and the traffic began to flood in.

Keep at it. You'll get there if you're content is good.

Hi Jake. From what I understand, you drive traffic to your blog organically. That could work but indeed, it takes a lot of time and patience.

What you could do is try a different strategy. In a nutshell, you could use an "accelerated way" and drive paid traffic (ex: facebook ads) to your website and convert it into customers for your informational product. (I'm a big fan of info products!).

Shameless promo myside, but I have a course that teaches just that If you need help, let me know. Cheers

    Jake,

Blogging can be a great way to promote anything. The trick is getting eyeballs on your blog. There are a number of techniques to do that.

The best one is SEO (search engine optimization) using keywords. So when people search on a keyword your blog comes up. I know people who make millions doing this!

    Hope this helps!

Shortest and fastest way is to do solo ads. Pay for 100 clicks and see if your lander converts. If it does see how well your sales copy converts. If both converts well amp it up.

    Hi

What kind of traffic is your blog getting?

Assuming that you have quality content, a great product, a stellar sales page and an amazing funnel it sound's like you don't have enough eyeballs on your pages.

You need a traffic plan to funnel people off of popular platforms like facebook, youtube, snapchat etc back to your site.

If you post a link to your site I'll take a look at, as long as you aren't afraid of honest opinions.
