Online Defamation - what to do?

Hi warriors,

Today i received a warning about a large scale defamation on my name on a local webmaster forum.

What triggered this is a membership site i launched a couple days ago teaching user how to make money with adsense.

The users/mods of that forum say stuff as:

- he owes money to community members
- he's a burglar
- he's a crook

and the list goes on.


None of that is true.


The one truth and all is that i launched a membership site BEFORE any of those guys and they have a pain in the ass with that.

I've seen it before with them. They don't do it, but when someone does it, he is a crook.

What i am asking you is:

- What is the first step to act against this defamation?

Send a cease and desist letter/email to hosting company?

Call my lawyer and let him take care of that?

    Thanks Joan.

    The problem is the defamations came from mods of the forum, so it seems.

    I did contact my lawyer and he is phoning his colleagues to seek advice: this is a new situation for him.

    I have print screens and video proof of the defamations, my lawyer asked for them, and i am gathering data on who is info etc etc to supply him.

    Any fellow warrior with a similar situation who can advice me?

      If the forum owner is not among the mods, then contact the forum owner and have him/her look at the issue. Don't bother to post explaination on the forum for it will be removed by the mods. I am not sure id the web hosting company can do anything about what goes on on the forum.

        You should probably monitor your SideWiki comments as well. I'm aware this will shock a lot of people, but from now on you could be subjected to abuse on multiple fronts thanks to that feature.

    I am really pissed off. This is exactly why i never bother to help the Portuguese community.

    Been doing IM full time since 2004 and each time i try to do something useful for them something weird happens.

    I did send a email to domain owner/representative.

    Know what bugs me more?

    Those *******s didn't saw the membership course, didn't saw a single video.

    Yet, they claim i am a crook and a burglar.

    Problem solved with Forum owner. Luckily he's polite and understood my situation.
