Getting started with affiliate marketing

by Wiggib 12 replies
Hey everyone i just started with this forum and am trying to start making money with affiliate marketing. I have so me questions that I'm not quite sure about.

1. I have a JVZoo account and looking at their dashboard it looks like I can build sales funnels through my JV account, will this replace me needing to get a clickfunnels account and pay for that membership?

2. When using a sales funnel is the funnel its own website with each page of the funnel being a page in the website, or do i need to even worry about hosting?

3. Do I really need a subscribers list of at least 100 in order to promote with JVZoo, and if so should i promote affiliate offers from clickbank through my JVZoo funnel in the JV account?

Any info that will help with getting started would be appreciated. I'm tired of buying courses and only getting enough info to be dangerous, thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Warrior Forum,

I'm pretty new to the forum but I've been working online for a while now. I love your enthusiasm and I'll give you my advice for starting out as an affiliate.

    1. Good job on getting a JVZoo account, that's a good step. I would also get a Warrior Plus account as well.

    2. JVZoo is not a funnel builder. You have to build all your sales pages in Wordpress, Clickfunnels, Leadpages, etc. Unless you're going to create your own products I wouldn't worry about getting a Clickfunnel account yet.

    3. Generally, when you promote products as an affiliate you just drive traffic to other peoples products using your affiliate links. This means you don't have to worry about building sales pages or any of the funnel pages.

    4. You have to think about traffic, building an email list, and branding yourself or your website. I wish being an affiliate was as easy as posting your affiliate links on Twitter or Facebook and people would click through and buy. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. The first step in being a successful affiliate is building a website and branding either yourself or the site. I would suggest looking at Brett Ruteckys site as an example. He does a great job and is very successful. Here's his link: Brett Rutecky

    5. You have to generate traffic and build a list. For traffic, you can review products you want to promote as an affiliate. At first, you'll probably have to buy them and use them to review them properly. Vendors generally won't give review copies to affiliates without a track record of sales. You can make a video of your review and post it on YouTube and Facebook. This is a good way of driving traffic. I would also recommend starting a website and put your reviews on there like Brett does.

    6. As soon as you can, you should create a free product or lead magnet to give away to build your list. You will need an autoresponder account to do this. Aweber, Getresponse, and Convertkit are good choices for this. Brett even has some products you can have for free to use as lead magnets. Check out the freebie section of his site. You can learn a lot about lead magnets by reading this post at Lead Pages: https://www.leadpages.net/blog/15-wa...e-lead-magnet/

The whole point of a lead magnet is to build a list is to promote offers to. Your list becomes your main traffic source so you don't have to drive cold traffic to your website, videos, or Facebook ads and posts every time. LIst building and email marketing is an in-depth topic you'll have to research and learn more about.

    7. Keep learning. This doesn't mean you have to keep buying products, there's a vast amount of high-quality information you can get for free if you know where to look. I recommend Digital Marketer, Copy Blogger, and ProBlogger for starters. But don't get obsessed with only learning because you'll never get anything accomplished.

    8. Here's what I would do right away. If you don't have a website get one. Get a domain name and use your name if it's available. This makes you look like an actual person and adds a lot of credibilities right from the start. Use Brett's website as a model and start to write some product reviews. Start with lower priced products on Warrior Plus that you can buy and get permission to be an affiliate for. Create a YouTube channel and Facebook fan-page and put your reviews on there.

This is a long-term strategy. You're not going to make a lot of money overnight, it just doesn't work like that. You have to put in the work consistently to see results. If you can do that you have a good chance of being successful.

Hope this helps and best of luck to you.

Thanks a ton for the information and advice. I've been studying affiliate marketing since probably March and without a doubt I've learned the most in the last 3 months of studying. I'm gonna take the advice and look at the website you directed me to and model one after it with my own ideas while getting the lead magnet to generate a marketing list. I'm planning to be in this for the long run since i'd like to someday stop working for a company and just work for myself. Thanks again

I'd say Wig, become a student of affiliate marketing, first. Do not even think about making money through affiliate marketing because you don't have the skills, the knowledge and the abundant, generous vibe to build a sustainable business through this channel right now. Don't worry; no one does in the beginning.

Study, learn, practice. Spend some time sifting through Warrior, taking notes on AM, studying, and practicing what you learned.

Money responds really well to patient marketers who solve problems and render useful service through their content, and it takes months to years to learn, to study, and to practice, so that you too can teach folks how to prosper online.

Give all of your energies to giving (learning, studying, serving), and the getting of money happens naturally, over time.

JVZOO is not a funnel builder.

And click bank and JVZOO two totally different places that have products that you can promote.

So to set up your funnel you would need hosting, a domain, and a service like aweber--so that you can collect emails.

One other point that I think needs to be made is, that do not get so caught up in building list, that you do not actually accomplish anything.

You would be better off setting up a small website--using wordpress--say ten pages, and then start promoting it--get your feet wet.

You can always include a place to get subscribers later--and you could add an exit pop-up--this is where when someone is going to leave your page--they get message.

Lastly, do not make the mistake I did when I was starting out and think that everything needs to be perfect--not so!

I wasted so much time--my website could have been up, and making me money-for a long time before I actually did something.

So, do not waste too much time--pick a method, and stick with it.

    Hope This Helps.

Most of the products on JVZOO have there own funnels built in already in terms of OTO's.
So if you are going to be an affiliate you should concentrate on building your own email list
so that you can promote the JVZOO Products over and over again.

Keep in mind that there is a big world outside of MMO / selling products and services.

I've been promoting affiliate / CPA offers for over 17 years.

I heavily promote PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers. This is because there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is fill out a form, so conversion rates are typically much higher compared to offers that require a sale to be made.

I favor offers that have a make, get or save money benefit to them, as they have overall worked the best. They also tend to have the greatest mass appeal (will be of interest to a large general audience), so the potential exists to produce high volume and they are fairly easy to cross promote on the back-end.

Some of the verticals (niches) I have done extremely well with are: education, insurance, loans, debt, credit, mortgage, assistance, discount offers, homeowner offers, etc...

The bulk of the PPL offers that I promote pay $20-$40 per lead, but I also promote offers that pay more and less. You don't want to get too caught up on what an offer pays because how well it converts is just as important. For example, if you have an offer that pays $9, but if it converts at 2X or more of a $20 offer, then it will perform about the same or possibly better. At the same time, if you have an offer that pays $90 and it converts poorly, it may not even be worth promoting.

I have also done just as good with dating website sign-ups and pretty good with free trial + S/H offers. I also promote a very limited number of offers that are straight up purchase offers. However, mass appeal needs to exist and I look for one of the following to also exists:

    1) The product is New and/or novel-unique and you can't purchase it locally or even something similar. I don't waste my time with it once something similar shows up in Walmart.

    2) The buyer can truly get what is being offered at a decent discount.

    3) Solves a house is on fire type problem.

However, most of the above I will promote on the back-end. Which is why the first thing I look for is mass appeal.

Bottom line, it's far easier to get someone fill out a short form than to get them to pull out their credit card and make a purchase. So why struggle with trying to sell this or that, when you can provide free information that users want/need and get paid well doing it.

    Something to think about

The best way to get started in affiliate marketing is to create your own product in order to build an email list...a buyers list which is much different than a freebie list.

Do you have a problem that you have overcome? If so, create a report on how you did that. If you are new to internet marketing, which it sounds like you are, I don't think it's a good idea to start promoting make money online courses unless you have benefited from them.

A simple funnel that goes from sales page to download page will work in the beginning. You can add other offers as you go. Clickfunnels is one way to do things.

You can also use Instabuilder(which is what I use) to set up your pages and use a processor like SamCart to collect payments and deliver products.

Thing I don't like about JVzoo is that when you make a sale, they get your lead and will market to that lead.

    I hope this helps.

    -Mark
