"I'd give up all the money I have ($2.7 billion) if I could be fifty."

For those subscribed to my newsletter, you'll know I'm a big believer in the fine art of balancing life and business, without one taking over the other.

I read an interesting article today - a lawyer worth $2.7 billion.

He just turned 60, and the article closes with his quote:

Some things in life, he notes, money can't buy.

"Being happy in life is not easy," he tells the Times. "I would give up all the money I have if I could be 50. You can always make money."
If he could, he'd buy an extra ten years of life for $2.7billion - everything he has.

He's a self-confessed workaholic, but he still believes in balance.

Before I get flamed by a minority saying "What's this got to do with marketing?!", it has everything to do with marketing -- this is our life, we work hard to grow our businesses.

But one thing I always try to keep in mind is something I heard from a church pastor once. He's a man who's sat next to a whole string of people who are about to die. He said never once has he heard any of them say "Wow, I wish I spent more time at the office!"

I'm a big believer in working hard at your business, but I'm also a big believer in knowing where your business stops, and your life begins.

Thanks Sam, great article and one that really gets you thinking about where that line lies between work and life.

I admit I'm often guilty of spending too much time working and not enough time with my family and it isn't worth it, no matter how much money you make, family is so much more important than money.

      The right perspective, Sam.

As many of us work from a home office, it's difficult to separate the various niches of our lives.

      Thanks for reminding us,

For that kind of money I'll get him a fake ID, a bottle of bourbon, and a hooker. Hope he doesn't give all of his money away - in 10 years he'll be 70 and broke -

Wow, inflation is a killer - last time I bought a bottle of bourbon, a hooker, and changed my identity it cost a LOT less

Ah yes, the home office thing is a killer - work is oh so close, and it's so easy to sit down to "just check a couple of emails."

I have a garage seperate to the main house that I've turned into an office, so that makes it a little easier for me, but it's still a LOT more tempting than a 45 minute commute

    cheers
