Clickbankers - Ever Buy A Clickbank Product Through Your Own Link?

Hello All,
I checked my old pc and there I have folder called clickbank and it had 12 ebooks in it. I remember when I bought them I was broke and out of work so I couldn't afford them but I was sure each new one held the key to me making money online so I convinced others to buy them for me. I convinced them because I told them I would buy them through my own link and thus get 50-75% of the money back and I would give that to them. So they helped me get the ebooks. I bought all 12 ebooks through my own link at the rate of one a month.

I haven't done it for a while now as I have a few bucks to pay in full now.

Has anyone else ever bought a Clickbank product through their own link to save money?

Mike

    Nope. I've never done it.

It doesn't feel right to me. Not to say that it is right or wrong or to judge anyone else.

It's just not the way for me.

      I do it regularly.
I buy only the choice ebooks that I am interested in promoting as an affiliate - if you don't know what the ebook is about you are at a loss to give a good review of it - and I don't think it is against the TOS at Clickbank - why should it when they make money from it?

Most vendors assume that you will buy using your own link...and double the price!

    Guilty!

Yes, I've also bought several products through my own links. I am quite sure that there is nothing against it on the TOS, but the 5-different-creditcards-rule was probably enforced to prevent the majority from doing it.

As mentioned by Tony and Alexa, it is a great way of getting a hold of the product cheaper if you are going to promote it yourself.

Yes, I will do this instead of asking for a free review copy in many cases.

Some sellers will cry "foul" but to me paying the smaller amount for a copy of a product I am seriously interested in promoting is a better practice than asking for free copies. At least there is some profit for the seller. Most such items are things I see mentioned on this forum so I'm not cheating an affiliate out of a commission.

If I find a product I want through an affiliate's site I don't use my own link as
that seems underhanded to me. If an affiliate's ad or site led me to the product I want, he deserves the commission.

Yes,I bought thro my own links but with different cards.I think the limit is 5.And why they are paying so much affiliation commissions like 50 to 75% when the actual product costing only 25 to 50% of the price. Its all marketing and I don't feel anything wrong when I can't pay full amount and still need that ebook or product.

I dont use CB, but I do use paydotcom. However, I see no problem with an affiliate buying it through their own link - if they are going to market it then they need to know what it is, and why should they pay full price when they are generating you income.

Thanks Tony, Alexa, Robert and Kay. That is a good idea to get a review copy. I can see myself doing that if I really want to promote the product and I can't get a review copy.

Myself, I've never understood why vendors refuse to issue a review copy if someone has proven that they're a capable affiliate.

But, actually buying the product or service you want to promote offers another benefit. You get to go through the entire sales process as well as experience the post sale process. You'll be exposed to the exact same things your referred customers are exposed to.

Anyway, you could pay full price. Then when you start making some affiliate sales, contact the vendor and see if they would consider refunding your purchase price since you're making sales for them.

No big deal. Just an alternative theory to them owing you a discount because you may generate income for them.

Yes, I just did, for my wife who suffers from acid reflux. Why not save the money? Plus it will help me write better articles.

I don't mind if people buy my products using their own affiliate links...
It increases my gravity and therefore my exposure in the clickbank market place, which helps me making more money in the long run.

      So, what's the problem?

I am with you, but I have just not really had the need to buy anything yet. But if I do then I will use my own link, why not? Its a free discount that you don't even need to ask for

How do you know they are not informative if you never bought anything from there?

To answer the OP's question, I have bought products from my link before. I think the vendor prefers that than paying full price and then getting an immediate refund.

I have no problem with buying a CB product via my own affiliate link. The way I look at it, the vendor is making the same amount of money as if the sale had gone via an affiliate, so the vendor is not losing out.

If I have an interest in promoting a product as an affiliate, I'll contact the vendor and ask for a review copy. I provide a list of 20 or so pre-sell pages I have up for other products and a link to my profile page on a number of article directories so they can see I write product reviews. I usually include some Google results so they can see my pre-sell pages show well.

After doing this, if they won't cough up a review copy I usually take a pass because I don't like selling products for idiots. But--if I really, really want to promote it, I will buy it though my own link and I see no problem with that. As far as buying products through your own links for products you have no intention of promoting--I would never do that. It's an ethical thing--but that's just me.

I tend to buy CB products with my own link (the product owners make it back when I promote to my niche lists). Margins on eBooks are 100% so they are still making 100%...just at a lower price
