This is a little odd.

I received an email today from someone asking if they could put an add on one of my sites and how much it would cost.

What's odd is the site in question hasn't done anything in the last six months, has a PR of 0 and currently has a default installation of wordpress on it(including the default first post). I doubt that this person has even visited the site or checked it's traffic or they certainly wouldn't be inquiring about advertising on it.

Now having said that how would you respond? I'm thinking I maybe grab 4 or 5 PLR articles throw them on the site and ask for $25/month and see what they say. maybe even say I'm not using the domain and offer to sell it to him?

Any thoughts?

Does your site have any traffic or content yet?

Maybe a few visitors a month. I used the domain as a redirect for some bum marketing I did over 6 months ago - since then nothing.

    HI Rob,

There are a few reasons he asked for an ad:
    1. a link back
    2. checking out your rate (he could be a competitor)
    3. he foresees potential in your site (so he may have his own agenda or plan)

    May we know your site?

    Cheers,
    John

Got it in one Bev - no name and not even signed. From address and reply to address are different as well.

    Thanks John,

I am curious if this is a scam how they plan to play it out. At any rate I did respond with an offer to sell the domain or to redirect to his site for a monthly fee. We'll see what he comes back with.

There are a ton of spam emails like this going around.

Your first step would be to establish if they are actually planning on paying you anything and if they're legitimate.

Don't fall for any scams involving payment.

        Kindest regards,
        Andrew Cavanagh

          Hi,

          It's spam - no question.

They all use that format. You'll get them offering to buy your site too. After some investigation, I found some of the domains were connected with 419ers.
